Such fantastic musicians! I love this phase of Solas best of all of their years. John Doyle is the greatest rhythm guitarist in the business, his percussive backbone is unmistakable when you hear him in recordings, no one holds the rhythm of a piece together like he does. Winifred Horan, John Williams, Seamus Egan, and vocalist Karan Casey (absent in this instrumental set) are all tops in their field, I've just adored these musicians for so many years now. Thanks for posting this exciting performance of one of my favorite sets of all of their records.
Have you heard any of John Williams as a solo musician? His albums have become a staple in my repertoire on fiddle/whistle. Amazing selections of tunes, unique but simple arrangements. Many harmonies & subtleties you can tell he imparted to Solas. Although he was only there for the first two albums, I still think Mick McAuley brought something similarly special. After their fourth album, which I'm obsessed with to this day, things took a noticeably "Americana" kind of turn...
Absolutely beautiful. I am very sorry to say I have not heard of you guys before and I have been playing Celtic music for a while now. Happy to say O'dowd's is now in my playlist. Great job on the whole set!
