まこまこ 光の庭は、バナナフィシュから数年後の話です。
バナナフィシュ自体が20年以上前に描かれた物語であり、光の庭もおそらく20年以上前の読み切り作品です。
アニメ化はされていないので、単行本を入手して読むのが良いと思います。
光の庭 バナナフィシュ で検索すればヒットすると思います。

I'm literally right here because I couldn't sleep. Like last night, after finishing Banana Fish I wept like crazy for Ash. I hate being sad but I just got so attached to the character and the entire story. When I tried to close my eyes last night, memories of Ash in the library flashes back and then I'm crying again. Fortunately, I did manage to sleep. But now it's the afternoon and I want to have a nap, closed my eyes then suddenly it dawned on me, their last meeting. It felt more painful than his death itself. Now I'm back here on yt instead, trying to stop these sobs. I really need to stop being so emotional over these fictional characters but I can't help it. Ash and Eiji deserved their happy ending, Ash deserved to live longer and get that happiness he deserves. I'm tryping this through tears. I can't believe Banana Fish messed me up this bad. Idk when I'll get over this anime.
I just thought that people in Japan cut their hair when they are heartbroken because of love and they want to forget the past.What if Eiji has long hair because he can't forget Ash 😥

Ash is my fav character, but I never cried while reading the manga until Garden of Light. I weep for Ash since he actually deprived himself of the chance to be happier since he thought Eiji will always be unsafe with him, but I weep for Eiji since he has to live with the pain #forever when given the choice, he will always choose to be with Ash. T_T
Garden of light is tragically beautiful and excuse me I just need a good cry after this T_T
I still don't know how do I feel about Sing marring Akira (age gap and other reasons) I kinda wanted Sing to stay with Eiji as only person who Eiji has left from that times. I mean I'm glad he pretty much stayed with Eiji for few years but still he will live with Akira and Eiji will stay alone again and I don't like that. I can only hope Sing will stay close to Eiji even with Akira accompany to make sure he is ok. Also Eiji was the one taking pictures at Sing and Akira wedding :) But Michael is also around Eiji so he probably contact with Max and Jessica.
I'm kinda interested if Eiji is keeping contact with Alex, Bones and Kong from Ash's gang because they were closest to him or maybe they left gang and work with Eiji in his job or if Ash's gang is maybe looking after Eiji since he was so dear to Ash and Eiji is like goddess to them so maybe they make sure he is safe in NY.
Seeing Eiji keep thinking about Ash and still cry after his death is so painful to watch. Yeah ending to Banana Fish was beautiful in a way but still I never wanted happy ending so bad so this ending is still horrible Ash and Eiji deserved better! Also I have kinda theory to make myself feel better I think Buddy (Eiji's dog) is reincarnation of Ash (he also found him alone, lost and in bad place) so he is guarding Eiji and Ash would be reincarnated as animals as long as Eiji lives to protect him and when Eiji dies then both of them would be reincarnated as humans again find each other because they are soulmates and this time live happy life in love :')
Yeah, please, Ash's soul in Buddy keeps me alive :'(

Sing and Akira get married gets me. I was like why? What? How? The age gap doesnt creep me out as much as the fact that they met when Akira was a kid. Yoshida really?
"Fly boy. in the sky" depicting Eiji in the pole vault athlete is very wonderful. Encounter with Mr. Ibe, limitations as a player, etc.

You know what, I cried when you cried T_T
And man, your reply in one on the comments that "He died happy knowing he achieved all these things, much like Yoshida says you don't need to live long to be happy so long as you achieve what made you happy to begin with that's all you need (christ that got deep)" really hit me hard. I think what pains us all the most is how Eiji shouldered all the aftermath of this when he had no say over anything that happened. I also cried over the fact that Sing had to shoulder all the guilt over something he never did nor wished for when he was only 16 (sigh, quite a lot of emotional baggage our favourite characters have at such a young age).
I read that they're not animating Garden of Light to allow the anime to be open-ended, whether Ash had hopes to be saved and all. The director mentioned in one of the interviews that they wanted to give Ash the happiness he deserved but they were forbidden from changing anything in the manga. Then there's this official art that came out and everyone thought it was just them touring NYC because of the Statue of Liberty, but someone pointed out that no one can come THAT close to it and it turns out that it's a replica of the Statue in Odaiba, Japan (goo.gl/images/TkVXGE), exact background and all. Ash's photo was also grayed off in the website's episode 24 character chart (each episode has one) to show that he's gone (like Skipper, Shorter and Lao), but came back coloured after one day (but like, not for Lao). Twitter had a serious field day because of that lol So the animation team was really implying outside of the narrative how they wanted things to have ended.

You have GOT to read Private Opinion (for Blanca/Ash's meeting/backstory) and then Angel Eyes (for Shorter/Ash's meeting in Juvie). I love Garden of Light, a truly beautiful, moving ending. You can follow it up with New York Sense...it shows some pictures of what the characters look like/who they marry a few years from the GOL ending.

Btw, do you remember how Ash has trauma about the shutter click sound because of his past? I was almost crying when I saw pics taken by Eiji. How beautiful, peaceful, relaxed and delightful. The true Ash was there. I again realized that Eiji was special to him like no other.

I watched the anime. This year the manga will be selling in my country and I wanted to get more informations about what I am about to buy. So I ended up here...just to have my heart broken all over again. I think I never will recover from Banana Fish.

I know yoshida just wants to extend the story but I wish Eiji hadn't gone back to NY and is now indirectly supporting/involved with the mafia through his friendship with yut and now people close to him are involved

Yes Sing and Yut- lung (briefly) are both in Yasha (Ash is mentioned but not by name), it’s not really a sequel but it is set in the same universe, Sing is also in Yashas sequel, sleeping eve.

I don't dislike or not care about the other characters,but Ash is the one I really care about so I tend to look at things from his perspective

yes technically Aikia is an adult,but she got married into the mafia with very little understanding of that life
Eiji was 19 when he went to NY,hadn't even seen a gun before..
the general conversation about consent..I can't respect or be comfortable about that when it is about kids,just because a country allows an adult to marry a young teen who hasn't even gone through puberty I can't see that as ok because it's seen as normal there,my reaction is why isn't someone changing the law
in BF what happened to Yut's mum,she was only ten,most fans saw that as wrong,thankfully,but it is seen as normal because it's allowed to happen,lots of things used to be allowed because that's how things have always been done,people are brought up with it...
thankfully with alot of things they are no longer seen as acceptable,some things in some countries still need to change imo
generally speaking I have an issue of someone being technically the age of consent with someone much older
on other things I've seen people rowing that it's ok if the younger person is legally of age and don't even consider the circumstances,such as teachers with pupils,step parents...
imo I don't think just what the situation is legally should be considered
as for the story there's nothing to suggest that Sing did anything wrong as such,they stay married have akid...

Sing gives his opinion on their relationship based on the letter,I don't thinkk he knows alot about his past,being abandoned...why it's important to Eiji to let Ash know even if he's not there physically he's not abandoned him

This anime broke my heart into million of pieces over and over. I mean i like it because its actually very relatable,but why the author have to killed Ash in the end? Its super sad. I can't get over it. He should have lived a happy life with Eije,start a new life. Everybody deserves it. So why?
I don't think Ash could have ever lived a happy life, much like the lives these people lead there's always a sense of danger, anything can happen when you least expect

I finished BF anime and all the side stories a week ago but still cannot go over the the ending. Cannot focus on my coursework now :( I can see the rationality and beauty in the ending but cannot help crying. That's just silly. Of course Sing called Akira a kid in Garden of Light - that is what she was then, just a girl of 13ish. You do realize that he didn't love her then, when she was a kid, right? She probably returned to NYC like she wanted some years later, and then she and Sing fell in love. He fell in love with a young woman, not a little girl. It's pretty possible for feeling to change, and for relationships to change, you know. Just because he met Akira when she was a child, does not mean he loved her as a child, nor thought of her as a child. The narration doesn't even imply that whatsoever (and considering the series, with Ash's backstory, do you really think Yoshida would have implied that?) Come on now.

Second of all, she was 18 when she got married with Sing. 18, you still have to ask for her parents' permission bc of the law at her place. When did she "fell in love" with him? 15? 16? 17? Still a kid.
Still find it kinda funny because Yoshida went against her own words and ideas. Ash was fighting for freedom, then chose to died himself when he's finally in control of his life. Ash was sexually abused at young age, but theres a big amount of illustrations of him being sexually used, and theres an adult falling in love with a kid. How Merry.

10 year gap marriage is quite common in real life, a 20 something year old woman marrying 30 something year old man, i don't see the problem as long as both are adults.
