  • Hey yall, this is my ninth month post-mini chop trim and and natural hair salon visit. This time, I went to a new salon, that I found out during my appointment, was a no oils/no butters natural hair salon. Let's see what happened to my type 4 natural hair.
See my honest thoughts in the Insider Tea: bit.ly/3VweVmz
I visited a natural hair salon for a trim nine months ago and ended up having to cut my long type 4 natural hair. Since then, I have decided to visit a natural hair salon and get a professional trim on my natural hair every three months. Come along with me for my latest natural hair salon visit as I show the entire salon process.

Hi all, after much back and forth, I was asked by the salon to blur the stylist's face. It's too long of a story that I will not discuss publicly. I've detailed this in the insider tea and I am moving on.

Hey SheRea! Shocked when I saw the title. I will say that your hair looked so full and long after it was dried. You've been doing a really great job at retaining length. I know you were not pleased with the service or the trim, but I'm positive you will grow your hair back in no time with your DIY's and your techniques. Just goes to show that sometimes we DO know what is best for our hair, stylist or not. tfs

I can feel the energy through the screen 😅 It was the staring at us while she brushed it out for me that made me chuckle and pick up on some things. But yeah everyone is different. I see some people rave about not using butters and oils and say their hair is thriving. Some I can see the improvement and some I don’t but like my mom says, “If you like it, I love it” 🤷🏽‍♀️ Honestly your last salon visit was more therapeutic, this wasn’t it. I couldn’t even see your ends because of the angle so I don’t know what needed to come off so I can’t say the amount she took off was needed 💯 I hope you were satisfied though 😊

@@valenciataylor7872 it’s weird how my curls are fine even though I’m blonde. It’s just the prepoo doesn’t work as good (my hair feels more coarse than it has ever), I can NOT leave my hair alone for more than about 3 days, and it tangles really bad no matter how long I let the deep conditioner or prepoo sit with a shower cap. Is there a reason why you didn’t go back to the same person who originally cut your hair in January? Only asking because I have experimented with other stylists to try them out but it created inconsistencies with my hair because each stylist has a different technique. Cosmetic Formulator here. All you really need for natural hair is clarifying shampo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, serum, and mousse for styling curls. That's it. Hair will grow tremendously. A lot of butters and oils suffocate the scalp. If you use emollients. Use light-weight and non-comedogenic oils on the scalp. Use heavy oils and butters on the ends of the hairs.

    • @SheReaDelSol

@@SheReaDelSol I think you misunderstood my comment Queen. I never said don't use butters or oils. I think their great. However a lot of consumers use them the wrong way. Which is why I stated what I stated at the end of my comment. However, it is not impossible to grow long healthy hair without oils and butters in your haircare regimen. A lot of consumers think it's impossible to grow hair without oils and butters. When in reality with just using those few products can help aid in growing long healthy hair. It truly all about what we digest internally, not just what we apply externally. Emollients are great for softening the hair and making it more manageable as well as serums.

I'm curious if this was a "cut it kinky" alum stylist.. 🤔 Because her technique differs greatly from the stylists I've seen this past year since my big chop and switch to the blackgirlcurls methodology.. But I also only get my hair trimmed/shaped while curly.. The no oils/no butters is a styling technique for those of us who want to wear our hair solely in its natural state in predominantly wash and go sets.. This was really rough to watch.. It low-key seemed like this stylist doesn't quite know how to straighten hair.. I wouldn't have been able to complete the service..
Long and short, this definitely isn't what's experienced at the salons that don't use raw oils or butters.. Least not here in AZ.. Its a shame something can become trendy and unqualified stylists may jump on the band wagon without having full knowledge.. That is really what this video looked like.. I'm sure your preferred stylist will be able to make any necessary corrections during your next trim.. So sorry this was your experience..

Just be careful with going to different salons. If you find a stylist and you like how she Trims, I would stick to that one stylist.
