Thank you for this! I love your point about rounded Renaissance knowledge ... it's truly the spirit of invention. Calatrava has always been a unique one in the approach to building. A revolutionary of a kind. I was always mesmerized by Calatrava's attitude towards his work. But I never knew what it had taken for him to achieve his vision.
anyone else notice the opening pictures of Spain were of Alicante and not Valencia? ... anyways, Calatrava was a complicated artist who received a lot of criticism for faulty designs such as a glass bridge in Venice that was too slippery for people to walk on when wet and the science and art museum in Valencia that has mosaic tiles that are falling off the opera building (ceramic and steel expand at different temperatures)... anyways he is still pretty cool and I love the science museum in Valencia. 10/10 recommend.
