  • This is a recording of final approach, with touch and go aborted landing and go around to successful landing of a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 at YVR Vancouver airport from Frankfurt.
    Also, click on the card at 09:32 to see this landing from the outside! Thanks to @tendegreeflaps for capturing this moment.
    It starts with approach over Vancouver, turning at Surrey for final approach into YVR at 04:30, and touch & Go landing aborted at 09:42 with go around south of the airport for final successful landing at 23:24
    The go around route 24:45 is an unusual route for any approach into YVR especially for a Boeing 747 at low altitude, going over BC Ferry terminal at Tsawwassen, Delta, with White Rock in the distance and back to YVR
    The view of Vancouver, Burnaby and other cities as well as the local mountains on approach is very clear.
    Flight: Frankfurt, Germany (FRA) to Vancouver, BC (YVR) by Lufthansa LH0492 on a Boeing 747-400, registration D-ABVM in Premium economy 26K
    Date: April 25 2023 3:00p

    Haha good that you posted this video, I was working that day Airside, I witnessed that 747 aborted landing, the pilot landed the aircraft slightly past the original touchdown spot for 747.. and the aircraft was carrying too much speed, probably not enough runway space and unable to make it stop. Good call by the pilot, safety is the first priority

    Great video! I can see why the first landing attempt was aborted, the pilots must have felt there wasn't enough runway space for deceleration safely, seeing how close the end of the runway was at the end of the video. Excellent decision on the pilot's part.

    • @yvrtravels
      @yvrtravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I wasn't expecting to video an aborted landing when I started to video tape the arrival. I was worried my battery would die before the go around and landing completed. On the second attempt we did end up pretty close to the end of the runway. I did wonder if that was the reason as we seemed to touch a bit farther and faster than usual for landings on that runway with 787 and 777, which don't need as much runway as 747.

    Plane went too far beyond the touchdown zone. It is mandatory that the pilots abort the landing and initiate a go around as there is not enough runway to safely stop the plane. If you go past the Canada Post facility and you haven't landed, you went too far, especially for a big plane.

    Some airlines with thier policies have become super paranoid about people filming and taking photos on board flights, even when written permission has been obtained in advance, it’s almost like the official secrets act has been breached, they claim that filming the approach and landing interferes with the instruments for landing as a reason for refusal and they don’t want flight attendants to be videoed on camera

    • @yvrtravels

    Good afternoon everyone (UK time GMT+1:00) aircrew do not abort a landing. (Take-off can be rejected or abandoned). In the case of a landing being unsafe, the crew elects to ‘go around’.
    The term ‘abort’ was quietly replaced in the 1960s and 1970s out of respect for the many female Air Traffic Controllers, the word was deemed too insensitive for obvious reasons.
