just today i bought my first real rc car - the rustler 4x4. the shop also had the xrt but that beast was simply too big for my first :D the rustler is insanely fun.
Good video guys, I bought two rustler vxl a year ago. Love the cars , my 6 year old has put his car through hell and back , one of the toughest RC I’ve seen. The chassis design on the Maxx is very beefy , must be tough as nails , do you notice a big difference in acceleration with the 4S Maxx ? Or is it negligible ?
Definitely a good and tough car! As for acceleration, on 3s our rustler can sometimes pull off standing backflips while the MAXX can do impressive wheelies. But in a controlled race on dirt, maxx acceleration has more control and power.
I know you didn’t ask me but, the sledge can flip super easy and would look like the rustler out there just bigger and better planted. I own both. I hope that helps.
Need a little more rear height and a heavier rear fluid in the rustler. Recently got one for my daughter and it sets up almost the same as my e-revo... that can have the same issue on terrain like that if it has a smooth surface setup. Subscribed, good job editing.
Thank you, we will definitely try that. We haven’t been able to run the cars since the rain started out here. But we have upgraded the shocks on the Rustlers to the GTR.
Debating between the Maxx V2 and Rustler 4x4. I’m an old dude mainly fooling around the neighborhood. Is the Maxx worth the extra cost and more expensive battery? Thanks!
Great question, thank you for watching also. Between both our Maxx’s we’ve broken 2 bulkheads, 5 axles, broke 1 toe rod, and broke the battery tray lid. We’ve had the Maxx now for 1 year, and we don’t take it easy on them as you can see from our bashing videos. They are well worth the cost considering you won’t be replacing a lot of parts. The Rustler unfortunately doesn’t do well on 3s, it works great on 2s. If you want more speed and durability you will need to buy the Extreme Heavy Duty Kit which is $120. Check out our 1 year review of the rustler we made, and this Saturday we will be dropping the 1 year review on the Maxx.
I wish Traxxas could make a truck that's in between the maxx and russtler, for example. The rustler is to small and bounces around on small bumps. The max may be a bit too tall and doesn't drift / doesn't slide around corners as good/ flips over more. You may say then the Sledge is the correct option the problem is it's a lot bigger and more expensive I wish they had a 1/10 scale Sledge but not so low to the ground like the rustler The max is more fun / versatile/ But my local (clay) track doesn't allow that big of a truck. I'm leaning towards the Rustler but it requires a lot more upgrades to make it optimal.. . I wish they would come out with a rustler XL.. if rustler, max ,Sledge had a baby.. 😂... Quick question/ what advantages does the belted tires have? Do you prefer them? Or regular
I would say the Stampede 4x4 VXL keeps the rustler’s speed and aggressive driving style while also introducing the MAXX’s bashing and truck nature. With an EHD kit, the Stampede 4x4 VXL can have great durability, but to be honest no RC car can come close to the MAXX. The belted tires are great for off road racing and speed runs but don’t give the rotation for bashing. He were out with our Traxxas XMAXX and only managed to do a single backflip despite jumping 15 feet in the air. I would recommend the 8s rated Non-Belted Sledgehammer tires for bashing.
I've had the Wide Maxx for about a year and a half and haven't broken anything, despite the rough treatment I give it. The first thing I did after buying the Maxx was to replace the plastic CVDs and spur gear with steel ones. The Maxx is super durable 11 out of 10. Do you recommend replacing the Rustler's plastic CVDs with steel ones, or is the Extreme Heavy Duty kit good enough? The Rustler now comes with the HD Kit. Thanks!
That’s awesome, MAXX is a tank. The Extreme Heavy Duty Kit is great, we personally stick with those axles, but it’s still a good upgrade to get steel. I’d save the money and just get the Extreme Heavy Duty kit.
Hey, gents, great video! I just got a rustler for my first car (43 years old) lol. What is the HD kit you’re talking about? Thanks for any advice on tricking this pony.
It’s the Traxxas Extreme Heavy Duty Kit, it fits the Hoss, Slash 4x4, and the Rustler 4x4. The part number is #9080 (black). It comes in Black, Green, Red, and Blue.
Bad shocks and poor track conditions add to the bouncing. Take a day with some friends and smooth out the track. Some raking and tamping will work wonders 😊
Well yeah a 4s car with twice as powerful esc with a bigger motor (almost wice as large )will be faster :D no shłt 🤯 on a straight-ish track, also the sledgehammer tires hold the rustler back it's just a strain in the drivetrain.. also on loose dirt lighter shock oil needed you use a shłt ass half dead shocks with waay to thick oil of course it will bounce it can't absorb the impacts fast enough....But cool video regardless
Throughout our time with both cars, the fastest we’ve gone with the MAXX was 43 mph. The fastest we’ve gone with the rustler was 46 mph. Both cars are still on their stock gearing.
@@redbanditracing i got 48 mph with maxx and i know i didnt got to top speed. Hard to keep in straight line short road. My gearing is 20 pinion and 54 spur. Stock was 23 and 50 so i know this is easy 60+ mph. But that i mean for asphalt surface.
The best rc car is that one that puts the biggest smile on your face
If you don’t like the Maxx tires ballooning you can always switch to the Maxx v1 tires they do flips and don’t balloon as much

That’s awesome congratulations. You’ll have a blast with that. Keep it on 2s, if you wanna run it on 3s you’ll want stronger axles.
@@redbanditracing thanks, i will keep that in mind. i only got a 3s so if something happens i will know why 🙂
Congrats on your first truck I just got my maxx yestarday
I have the Xrt and love it! Waiting on my rustler 4x4 can’t wait!!

I’m shopping between the Maxx and Rustler. What made you choose the Maxx? Thanks!
The Rustler is super underrated. I’d say Rustler wins in portability where the maxx wins in Durability.
I’d agree, that Rustler is a little speed demon.

Kul video men den kräver också en tjock plånbok.............. Har själv en vortecs som jag är lite mår rädd om 😅😅😅
Definitely not the cheapest 😂 the vortex is a great car, lots of power!
Great vid. Thoughts on the Sledge?
Check out the Sledge “One Year Review”. Or the Sledge Playlist, great basher.

Sounds like if I want to do more driving and less wrenching the maxx V2 is the way to go. Thanks for your prompt reply.

The owner is going to landscape that track, don’t know when but it will be much smoother.

Amazing👍❤❤
What is the Max’s runtime on the 6700mah lipos (more or less)
We’ve gotten anywhere from 20-30min. Depends what we’re doing.
I get well over 30 min. Track or speed runs. Maybe i got a lucky lipo.
what are the trims on the sides of the body?
Body Armor, works great for bashing.

That 4x4 is really crazy if you can just keep all 4 on the ground lol
The Rustler is crazy fast, jumping it is way too easy.
HUH? Nah its crazy cause its off the ground!!
Très bien men
Thank you

You need a longer road for speed runs, your cars aren’t even getting to max speed
Short burst of speed is all we were going for, but if you wanna see these two with their top speed gears we can.
What was the other guy driving? That thing was ripping!
I believe that was the Arrma Outcast out there.
You can't compare the 2 on that track when the rustler has crap shocks
Speed test was a joke lol... i have both trucks and maxx is faster in any way. Only rustler can corner faster on hard surface.
