John, are you aware of the channel Wicked Salty (Kate and Wes) a couple cruising the Bahamas as well sharing their journey. You both are killing me... Stuck in the Chesapeake bay due to work. Love the fact you hit my hometown HHI, SC... Love harbor town but it's pricey... Nice work, love the updates, keep them coming. I've gone through and watched your journey twice now hoping someday I'll have the opportunity to do the same! Keep documenting! Dingy engines NEVER get tilted!!!! EVER! Puncture alert!
Yes, yes it is. But it brings in the CHIPS we need to go sailing with... Just had a bad heat weekend on the bay. Broke down, bought a Yamaha 1000 genny and a 5k btu window unit for the companion(way). Keep up the posts, It really means a lot for us armchair sailors who look up to you guys! Son takes on Annapolis Sailing School on the 27-28th of June. Hopefully he learns more than I did from a beachhead sailor in HHI, SC. Either way, he's hooked as well! Next generation will live on with wind and wave.
Hey John, new subscriber here.Love your vids and wish I could afford a catamaran but I'm poor.lol I'm planning on buying a 41' fiberglass motor boat and cruise up and down the west coast from The San Jose Bay Area to Columbia then through the Panama Canal and up and down the coastline then out ending up in Puerto Rico to Florida then on up the Gulf Coast Line back to Texas. I'm thinking 3 years should just about do it but I really don't have a time line. Do you know of any other boaters(power) that put on youtube? I have been looking but seems they must be a shy or private lot. Seem to only find sailors. It's cool thought I enjoy traveling with them and learning their destinations. But I'd really like to see some motor boaters out there. Thanks and keep up the good works
Tony Bonner I call my dinghy deflate-gate patches so I am not concerned lol....Please steal her! I dont worry or lock her up......I guess I live with my doors and hatches open and dont lock my tender, etc.......I am sure I will learn one day, but I try to live "FREEDOM"
John Ahern Yes, it was in Anchorman as a retro song, but the song "Carry On Wayward Son" was written in 1976 and was in a movie filmed in 1976 that came out in 1977. What was the name of the film? That was strike one.
noylddot This song has appeared in several movies, including Heroes (1977), Happy Gilmore (1996) and Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). LOL
John Ahern Ah the wonders of the internet. You got it. "Heroes" was the first movie to play the song. Henry Winkler, Sally Field, and Harrison Ford. Good movie that nobody saw.
Hi John, Have you lost the sense of time yet. Like, what day it is etc. or what is happening in the world.. You know there is an election next year ??? Or do you even think about it.. I am about 12-14 months in joining your lifestyle. Just a final decision on the boat and to organise some family / personal matters. As for work.. "so over it and its so over rated" like you say..
Mick Relic I use to think it was other peoples exaggeration, but you do lose track of days and what day is it. You get up with the sun and go to bed when the sun sets. If you have no schedule, it is easy to just forget about what day of the week it is, what time is it or what month......You will not regret taking the risk to cast the lines off...You can always make money....
John Ahern Already made the decision etc, If it was not for family things to sort out, which takes time I would be further down the track. I am sure you know that you can not just leave major family things. I have charted a Helia from the 30th of July in the Med to test it. If its is as good as it looks then I will put in an order around xmas and then delivery 12 or so month later. However to confuse me further, a couple of weeks ago my dealer sent me a whole bunch of info on the new Fountain Pajot 40 that replaces the Lipari. The boat looks good, flat cockpit deck, washing machine etc. Will be able to see that in December and if its as good as the 40 minute vid shown to me then I might order that instead and save $200K. The dealer tells me that the davits are still being worked on it to get the right set up. Both Helia and Lapari have poor davit system (only weakness). Boat selection as you know can be trying. Keep well mate, the videos like yours have confirmed my decision to be the right one and that you just have to cast off the lines. :-)
Mick Relic I agree 100% on the davit system....I would think new models would address that. If not, as a new owner, you should....The 44 is a beast and tank.......You can cruise on that 200K...lol.....I am alone and I say the 41 is too big for me....lol
John Ahern Thanks for the feedback, that is why I am chartering one to try it. It's planned to have 1-3 people on the boat. Probably 1/4 of the time it will only be me. In the Med and Caribbean a 40 is more then what is needed, but I also plan to sail the Pacific and being Australian I have sailed a lot there. Size does matter there, to have room for dive compressor, scuba gear, tanks surfboards, kayaks. You can easily spend 4-6 weeks without visiting a port there as some lagoons ate 40-50 Knts long. The new 40 looks good as it has heaps of space up top for solar. So will see after my trip.. Its going to be a shock for you hitting Boston again and having to put up with traffic, noise, pollution.. :-(
Green Turtle Cay...m missed it last time. Thanks John, won't miss it this time.
Great tour of Green Turtle Cay! Someday, if I ever need a KewlChange myself, I believe I may follow in your footsteps.
The Lawn Care Nut Having steak every night gets boring, everyone needs a kewl change...LOL GT was one of my favorites
Awesome love the dag (movie .. Snatch..... Reference )

Great video again John, Do you worry about your dingy when you park it and head into town? Is there a way the lock it up?
