There was no debate over the place of circumcision in Christianity before the 1940s, when routine infant circumcision became the norm in the USA. Then some American Christians (NOT Catholics or mainstream Protestants) began to argue that the Abrahamic convenant applied to Christians as well as Jews. Regardless of one's theology, circumcision should be an informed and free choice made after the 21st birthday and under anesthesia.

The gods of other surrounding cultures the Israelites interacted with demanded the lives of children, but from His followers, the God of Abraham only asks for a piece of vestigial skin. It is to be removed on the eighth day, so the child will have experienced a full week of life and have seen one of God's holy days. The process involves pain, as in life you will be made to suffer for your faith. In the modern day the faithful may face ridicule in the civilized world, but there are still today those nations where it is illegal, and you may face unjust persecution, prosecution, or violence for it. The cutting away of the man's penis points to the fact that the male organ of reproduction will play no part in the birth of the Messiah (Jesus the Christ), therefore prophesying the virgin birth, because it is the "Seed of the woman" who crushes the head of the serpent. It's a man made idea in my honest opinion even if it was written long ago, it's still a man made ideation. How exactly do we truly know that God wanted to continue circumcision even when it comes to those times. How do we know for a fact that man didn't pervert that idea even in those times to suit an agenda or their personal preference. It just makes no sense that God would create our bodies that way and then expect us to continue to practice this painful idea of a covenant for every generation to come considering that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins. I looked at Geneses 17 when God introduces the connection of the covenant with Abraham and the Hebrews. It says every male in the household, including those bought with your money from foriegners, must be circumcised. The spiritual fulfillment of the old covenants physical circumcision is circumcision of the heart , which in effect, is circumcision of our conscience. This is what remission of sin accomplishes.( Acts 2:38). After faith and repentance, water baptism is when this occurs. Under the old covenant ,the temple was cleansed with blood and water in preparation for the Spirit of God to occupy the Holy of Holys. However, as the writer of Hebrews wrote, that the blood of bulls and goats was ineffective when it came to dealing with " consciousness of sins", which is guilt. So the guilt from sins was only temporarily covered resulting in the Spirit of God only inhabited the temple temporarily which resulted in the cleansing process having to be repeated yearly. This had the result of the Spirit of God only temporarily visiting the temple. The new covenant cleansing changed that because although the blood of animals only covered sins temporarily the blood of Christ did so by removing the guilt permanently allowing for the Holy Spirit to permanently inhabiting the " temple" of the believers body. During water baptism the Holy Spirit circumcises our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins ,and restoring to it its original childlike innocence from the consequences of wilful sin. This is the " washing of regeneration" of Titus 3:5. The word " regeneration" defined means to return something to its original state. The original state of our conscience was as a childs.

I always wondered about the actual reason for circumcision and what it symbolizes and ive come up with a theory (or a couple theories rolled into one) combining academic and theologic reasoning.

The gods of other surrounding cultures the Israelites interacted with demanded the lives of children, but from His followers, the God of Abraham only asks for a piece of vestigial skin.
It is to be removed on the eighth day, so the child will have experienced a full week of life and have seen one of God's holy days.
The process involves pain, as in life you will be made to suffer for your faith. In the modern day the faithful may face ridicule in the civilized world, but there are still today those nations where it is illegal, and you may face unjust persecution, prosecution, or violence for it.
I guess some parts of the theory are a little thin, but im open to hearing peoples thoughts on it.

The reason I stated that it is the sign of the Gospel is because the Abrahamic Covenant ("In your Seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed") is directly called "the Gospel" in Galatians 3:8.

It's a man made idea in my honest opinion even if it was written long ago, it's still a man made ideation. How exactly do we truly know that God wanted to continue circumcision even when it comes to those times. How do we know for a fact that man didn't pervert that idea even in those times to suit an agenda or their personal preference. It just makes no sense that God would create our bodies that way and then expect us to continue to practice this painful idea of a covenant for every generation to come considering that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins. A true believer would not need to alter their body to prove themselves to God other than practicing love, kindness caring for thy neighbor and compassion as well as abiding by morals and values while resisting evil and temptation. The Bible also says not to get tattoos or make body modifications so let's cut the crap already. God made us perfect and all we should be doing is practicing his message of love and light. And as far as sacrifices go, I believe that has to do with endurance through tough times, not cutting off a price of skin especially when trying to indoctrinate your children into believing what you believe. If anything they need to make the choice to follow Christ teachings when they are able to understand the concept of him. But that's just my honest opinion because indoctrinating your child into a religion doesn't guarantee his salvation unless he goes to Christ with an understanding of him.

The spiritual fulfillment of the old covenants physical circumcision is circumcision of the heart , which in effect, is circumcision of our conscience.
This is what remission of sin accomplishes.( Acts 2:38). After faith and repentance, water baptism is when this occurs.
Under the old covenant ,the temple was cleansed with blood and water in preparation for the Spirit of God to occupy the Holy of Holys.
However, as the writer of Hebrews wrote, that the blood of bulls and goats was ineffective when it came to dealing with " consciousness of sins", which is guilt.
So the guilt from sins was only temporarily covered resulting in the Spirit of God only inhabited the temple temporarily which resulted in the cleansing process having to be repeated yearly. This had the result of the Spirit of God only temporarily visiting the temple.
The new covenant cleansing changed that because although the blood of animals only covered sins temporarily the blood of Christ did so by removing the guilt permanently allowing for the Holy Spirit to permanently inhabiting the " temple" of the believers body.
During water baptism the Holy Spirit circumcises our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins ,and restoring to it its original childlike innocence from the consequences of wilful sin.
This is the " washing of regeneration" of Titus 3:5. The word " regeneration" defined means to return something to its original state. The original state of our conscience was as a childs.
