- We've got the Fummins build (2005 Dodge 5.9 CR Cummins Engine into 2008 6.4 Ford F-350 chassis) Sorted and it's time to test it! We take a no trailer trip, then a trip with the open trailer, then we hook up to the gooseneck and pull it to see if it's ready to go the distance! Will it survive or will we be plagued with issues!?

yeah like the drift cars are impressive; But to do a swap like this in a home shop and have it running like it came that way from the factory is so so so impressive.

For the tow/haul button, if the light on the dash sometimes comes on and sometimes doesn’t get a new shifter handle. The wires on the inside will come loose or rub bare spots in it and it will intermittently work
Ahhh around 25 min mark he says "I think its the switch". You are probably right
Ford buttons wear out quick. Happens a lot with the headlight switch along with windows and mirrors as well

He should just unplug the check engine bulb, i have one on in my car and im saving to fix it but every time i get in that car that light drives me crazy
Do what ever other Ford owner does, pull the bulb on the check engine light.
It’s an led soldered on to the cluster board and the dinger constantly dings non stop when you do that

With a gear vendors overdrive you can retain your factory gearing and have a “taller” final gear. You can even split gears with it! Love the vids!!

My brother has one in is OBS 7.3. Thing pulls his enclosed trailer and prerunner fully loaded out to the desert like it’s not even there.
Ya but 5k for an add on or a couple hundred to change the ring and pinion..

They might be able to fix the tow haul mode cuz that's more of the chassis/trans side of the truck. Which is still Ford. But CEL no chance 😂
Forgot if it’s 4x4 but if you change the rear gears you’ll have to change the front gears as well. You’ll probably never use it but better safe than sorry
Is it possible to change the OD ratio in the trans? Those 4:10 gears would be needed for bottom end grunt. If he puts 3.73 or 3.90s he may lose that take off power.
Yeah I know. If it was just the rear it wouldn't be such a big decision. yall think I built this whole truck solo and don't know that I have to change both? lol Give me a little more credit than that. lol But after figuring out the mph change with the current tires and then to the future tires the gearing will actually be perfect. I'm just an idiot and like to tow at 75-80.

I thoroughly enjoyed this build. Looked like a daunting task at the beginning. The only thing that is bugging me is that nasty steering wheel...
Interior parts will be replaced! I've been trying to buy a new wheel but can't find my color. I can find a more robust tan, King ranch, and grey. mines like a tan gray.

One of my favorite moments of Roadkill, they were driving a car that none of the gauges work and they agreed that meant the car had no problems! Haha. I totally feel you on driving yourself crazy with watching gauges.

Dude you should be so freakin proud of yourself for this build! It was such a huge project to take on by yourself and you did it so well. You literally built yourself the perfect tow rig! Ever since I started drifting, I got really into tow rigs as well, so I totally understand the genuine excitement you have for this thing lol.
Idk why more drifters/racers aren't into tow rigs!? I'm as into them as I am my drift cars. lol

Hey Taylor! In regards to the overload springs touching... you might want to look into the Roadmaster Active Suspension kits. it replaces the overload spring on the truck, however the benefits are on incredible. I helped my friend put a kit on his 2014 F350 SWR and he pulls like huge camper with it. He said the difference was immediate when he started down the road. He noted that the sway reduction is true and that the truck squats a quarter of what it used to.
Those 24.5's will kill some of that gear.
Especially depending on what kind of tire he runs. Being a 4wd, running 35s on those trucks is pretty easy. They clear pretty good even at stock height.

@@Ribbityibzki Most 35s are 34 inches tall with the weight of the truck on them. About an inch taller than my tires. I have 3: 31 gears and my 6.7 runs 1600 RPM at 75 mph. Pulls 15K lbs like it's not there.

mckrackin5324 don’t forget our 6.7s got a 6 speed trans and the 6.4 got a 5 speed so the gearing is all different.
If your going to put the semi wheels on it leave the gear be until you know how it drives with them. Should pull the rpms down alot
Congratulations Taylor, I enjoyed every minute. Once you settle on the rims and tire setup you can get in the factory ECU and manually adjust mph up or down by 20 under MPH calibration. Once you're in there you should be able to delete the function of the check engine light permanently. If not, remove the bulb. If it's a hardwired LED built on the control board that can't be removed. Separate the cluster overlays on the gauge cluster and put some silicone in that cavity. No more annoying check engine light on your perfect build. Or listening to people like Marco with their sassy comments lol..
Huge reason I love the channel is how you are able to elaborate on topics and educate viewers and also we get to see you do all your own work and not only that you drive the hell outta your cars.

You need to fix tow haul. If the truck keeps going into overdrive you’re gonna fry your transmission
That trans should be newer than 2006 and does not have the "Overdrive" Lock out. In 06 The "Tow/Haul" feature changed from just locking out OD to changing the shift points while towing. That's why he was not pushing it at low RPM's and where the Tow/Haul works. It will still shift into OD when all of the parameters road speed, RPM's ect, are met.
your rpm will go down when you put your big tires and wheels on and you'll appreciate the extra gear when you're pulling your enclosed truck is sick man 🤘😎

When towing with a diesel it's all dependent on exhaust gas temps. If your egt's are about 1300 the rest of your temps dont mean a thing. See what happens what you put the 35s on, if it still doesnt drop enough go with 3.73s. Also check the wire in the shifter at the column. They like to break there from shifting

Thanks for all the motivation, I swapped my MX5 fuel filter and flushed the clutch fluid this afternoon. Watching how hard you have been working to get through your project has been great for morale during lockdown. So far I have done cam belt, engine seals, service, gearbox oil change, timing check and been prepping a whole rear subframe with poly bushes. I had never worked on an inline DOHC motor before or anything with electronic ignition/fuel injection.

Some of the codes the Fords’ ecu has may be disabling the tow/haul mode

Hey Taylor, I know first hand how the ford chassis tows with a big trailer. The chassis will benefit greatly from helper bags. It feels like nothing right now but you will feel like you’re walking on sunshine with the trailer haha! Love the content

A dually makes all the difference in the world for cruising with a trailer, the added stability makes it so much more relaxing and drivable, especially at highway speeds!
From Australia, I just love the HUGE trucks you guys have, it's so difficult for us to get anything like that over here without spending over $150,000. Then giant trailers.... *sigh* maybe more of those will come into Australia one day.
You need to paint the trailer to suit your truck now. Well done I'm stoked for you. I live in new Zealand and have brand new holden Colorado and nothing beats the feeling of no stress towing

To defend the 7.3L you had was used and abused. Mine with a new KC turbo some mild tow tuning is a beast towing my 11K 5th wheel. You should leave the gearing alone, the power band for a diesel is over the 2K RPM range when you get below that they chug a lot, which will drive the EGT's up. Great job and love the excitement you have it is well deserved with all the hard work you have put into it.

put some forces on it taylor! you'll liove it more when it looks clean. also color matching the chrome is a must itll change the whole look on the truck. ive gotten sooooo many compliments from people looking at my 6.4 front end conversion excursion .
That's a super common problem with the Fords wiring in the shifter brakes or becomes exposed causing intermittent function . Love the truck good job

Fords are notorious for having shoddy tow/haul buttons. The wire on the inside of the shifter is likely exposed and touching metal. That happened on my grandad's 04 6.0
It looks like the tune is really clean not any smoke I can see.

7:30 dude i feel that 100%, i have a 944 that has a jumpy coolant temp guage gives me so much anxiety but i just smack the dash and it goes back to normal temp 😂 i try to ignore it

Pull the O/D button and check the wires going through the shifter, the wires are known to break down by the area where the shifter mounts to the column.

I had the same surprising experience when I moved from towing a camper with a gas Chevy 2500 to a 2016 F250 Diesel. It was amazing. I can tow a 12,000lb 5th wheel camper with the cruise control set!
Truck looks awesome. You should definitely paint the trailer black to match the truck. Also helper bags will help level out your truck.

One time the trailer plug came unhooked. We stopped on the side of the highway to fix it. Went into the trailer for zipties and the reality of "taking a mini shop" with you hit of like wow. Were on the side of the highway and we have a full on garage. lol

This is awesome.. Taylor Re watch the footage at 9:22-24 watch the side of the trailer on the goose neck part you can see the panels move like there is flex in the trailer. May be normal movement but i would do a visual inspection of things.
Everything turned out great the only thing I dislike about this truck is the sound which I know is personal choice but I remember you mention about a 2nd gen swap im really waiting on the video when you do that cause it will sound so much better in my opinion keep up the great work taylor
You've made my dream truck ! Good fluids etc and you should be good .Don't forget the water wetter for that big boy . Especially in florida. The radar detector gps is off . I have the same one but no speedo error . I saw a guy in colorado that cummins swapped a excursion . Compounds and a dependable engine . It was beautiful .

Glad i got to watch you and westen champlin both do a swap. Ive got a pretty clean 06 f350 with the 6.0 in it. Not as bad as the 6.4 but still. When it blows i wanna do a new 6.7 cummins swap. Way more power and fuel economy
Once you put those semi wheels you want on the truck, with the 4:10s, it will be money. No need to swap out greats. The cumins power to torque sweat sport is between 16-24 hundred rpm. I cruise 85 at 2500 with 3.55 on 287/70/17.
Enclosed is the best because you kind of have a shaded and covered home base. That’s my favorite part.

Also with ford and dodge it will disable tow haul and cruise control when the check engine light is illuminated but only for certain code setting criteria so sometimes if you turn in and off again it will work or try clearing codes before driving

Get a a/c unit in that enclosed, do an install video, take out one of the roof flaps and cut the hole there. I have an enclosed with an a/c unit and it’s perfect for sleeping in when you don’t have a motorhome.
