Have you ever thought about the carnivore diet. Eat beef, bacon, butter and eggs. You can eat chicken, pork, turkey too. I lost over 35lbs on it last year, in about 2 months. Need to get back on it.
I think my biggest problem is discipline and not the food that I eat

Glad you're doing ok healthwise; my recommendation to lose weight is to eat salads. A good chicken salad has a lot of protein which the body needs on a daily basis; stay away from red meat and pork as much as possible.

Wow you need a new doctor John. I'm a retired respiratory therapist and I assure you a Kidney GFR of 30% is terrible. Once Kidney disease gets started turning it around takes a very long time and the last thing you wanna do is end up on dialysis. This is no joke, renal failure which is what you're talking about at 15% is deadly. While many people do survive more than 50% of them die within the first five years ! You're diet is the issue, you simply must stop eating carbohydrates of any kind. Consider a Carnivore diet. Forget the plant foods they'll try and push on you, it isn't too late for you to reverse your CKD back into the 50s, but is imperative that you cut out any carbohydrates, such as breads grains, pasta, and fruits, plus definitely no root vegetables like Potatoes neither white or sweet. If you feel you must eat greens then stick to leafy greens and other very low carbohydrate vegatables.

@@24juan68 Sorry John but the medical industry has been corrupt for a very long time. I was in Chronic Kidney Disease myself and was hospitalized with a GFR of 41. I'm telling you the truth is you simply do a TH-cam Search for CKD and you'll hear all kinds of people saying their GFRs and how bad they can get. But the GFR is meant to be a % of how much you kidneys are still working so if you have a GFR of 30% that means you have only 1/3 of your kidneys still working. As far as the diet You can try doing what they say and eating a rabbit diet of only vegetables but even the American Kidney Foundation lies about what is a healthy diet for your kidneys. But if you also search CKD and carnivore diet you'll read amazing results of people recovering from even stage 5 which is when they were on Dialysis by simply eating meat. But most importantly you absolutely must eat a zero carbohydrate diet, No Grains, No Breads< No sugars, No pasta etc....I have been where you are and now have a GFR or 77% since starting this lifestyle, and I've never felt better lost 100 lbs down from 265 I'm 6'1" and 65 years old.

I’ve cut out a ton of salt! I cook at home! When I grocery shop I read ingredients! I’ve cutout high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, n palm oil! Deadly x 3 to have that in your food 🥘!!! I only drink 2 cups of coffee ☕️ a day! Please try this too!

You need to cut back on that salt due to your kidneys.
I don’t usually do salt that much to begin with..
Your heart needs salt. You should try the carnivore diet. My husband lost 20lbs so far.
And somebody just here on the comment to suggest it to stay away from red meets… mixed signals is frustrating
