This was brilliant fun to shoot, and the first proper cinematic of the new Project 944! Turned out amazing ❤ Edit before the comments erupt: Yup, should have said 8v for the Turbo, not 16v!
I own myself a Porsche 944S2 in the same blue color! It's my absolute dreamcar and I would never sell it as long as I can drive it. It's such a joy to drive some curvy streets in the mountains and on the track, it has enough power to bring a smile in my face! Thanks for that nice story!
killer!! i love the 951 actually i love all the transaxle cars. im a RUF fanatic more than anything a 911 turbo fanatic a close second but nothing else is as cool a tuned subtle 944 turbo. not many people have stepped into the 928 game howfully when people see how outstanding this project will surely be perhaps that my be your next stunner. you have a lock on the 911 so i cant wait to see this upon completion good luck and cheers
Thank you for the beautiful images and emotions. I own a 944s2 in Japan. You are right about the appeal of the 924 platform. In the 1980s and 1990s, Japan created various FR sports cars to exceed the 924 platform. 944 became their benchmark. In Japan, the 924 platform has been considered a degraded Porsche that you can't buy a 911 from. But I think that's different. We are very excited to have design911 working on the 924 platform. I will continue to order parts from design911 for future activities.
Are you doing a follow up film on the 944 design 911 please? Lots to do with performance upgrades like a supercharger (so it can eat 911’s) to fitting a modern air flow meter and ECU. Plus drop kits for turbo stance and short shift kits. You could sell loads of them all but seeing how they work / cost / look would be a game changer…
Great video and some lovely shots. Just got my 1990 944 S2 this week and started the build with some mods. Next week more arrive and really looking forward to getting my stamp on it. In fact, a few purchases came as a result of the videos from you, @TheBackRoads
Hi Liam, having watched your video about upgrading your S2 in conjunction with Design 911 (I've used them a lot for parts) I would warn against using 18" wheels, I started my Porsche life in 2009 with a 944 S2 cabriolet, moving to a 968 cabriolet in 2012 which came with 17" wheels and initial proved horrible compared to the 944 with it's 16" wheels. On 17's the car would tramline or pull you into the verge on anything less than good A roads! Switching to a spare pair of 944 16 rims proved it was the tyre size of the 17's causing the problem. So unless you intend tracking the car or just want 18's for display effect I would highly recommend for great driving stick to 16's and find some nice ones you like?
Hey Tony! We've got a lovely set of RH 3pc Speedline Style alloys for the car that are 18" but the choice to upsize is a little different to normal. It's running 17" Cup2's at the moment and fortunately I haven't had much in the way of issues with tramlining just yet. Upgrading to 18" will give us better tyre choices, but also the ability to uprate the brakes as well as visually 'upgrade' the car. The main error in upsizing wheels is that people tend to run a smaller sidewall on the car as well as people being forced to use XL reinforced tyres which aren't as flexible because they're made for heavy modern cars - which doesn't help with the issues you're mentioning. We'll be running quite a chonky side wall so hopefully, although ride will suffer a small amount, it shouldn't be *too* noticeable! I have some 16" Cup 1's on my other S2 and do agree with you that it rides nicer though 👍 Thanks though mate, I'd say for 8 out of 10 cases you're right!
Great editing. Great production. But how tf are you going to introduce a 944 build and not continue the story for 6?-7? Episodes now? Cmon! ❤️❤️❤️ - future fan(maybe).
Looking forward to see more videos about project, but I'm quite that car in 1990 model year. There was one feature similar to 968 introduced for 1991, which quite easy to spot.
If you're referring to the 968 style bridge spoiler, once upon a time it had one! It's been backdated at some point in the early 2000s. There are pictures in the service folder with a bridge spoiler.
I fell in love with the Porsche's 944 from seeing it in the movie "Sixteen Candles". I don't know any other movies this car is in but that movie put it on the map?
The S2 was my favourite, if I could buy another 944 again (I had the 2.7) it would be the S2. I like the wheels on that example, I had the tele-dials on mine which I never really liked and would have changed them for those if I had the money. But every time I thought I had the money to do it, another major repair bill got in the way, in the end and after only 3 years, I had to part company with my black 44.😢
More of this please! That is one hell of a clean 944, can't wait to see how it'll turn out 👀

Fantastic project you guys have on your hands. Looking forward to seeing the journey!👏
My 1990 S2 is currently going though an engine rebuild, can't wait to get it back. Fantastic cars, very underrated.

Love my S2. These are stunning cars that make you smile every time you drive one. Keep the content coming as not very much out there. 👍
Really Great Video. I drive a Porsche 944 S2 for over 7 Years and im still loving it.

So enjoyed this, hope its part of a bigger series, loved the footage in this too! Now off to find a 944 😍
Thank you mate!
Nice work! 👏

Wow, this video was extremely well done. Absolutely loved it! I’m planning to do the same with a 944. :)

Beautiful car!
parabens lindo seu 944. otimo video tambem!
More 944! 👏👏
I have a 1985 porsche 944 turbo! Was the firsts of 951 production, is my baby!

Great film. Never been a fan of the 924, 968, 944, or 928 but the film is brilliant.
911 is the only Porsche and its not even good.
944 Turbos we’re 8 valve. The only 16v engines of the 944 architecture were a very limited run of 968 turbos, which used the 3.0 16v motor.
correct
Incorrect...The 968 Turbo S uses the 944 2.5 head so it's not 16 valve, it's 8 valve. 968 block so it is 3.0L.
The 944 is my dream car, I'm working on getting one. i like it better than the 911. its such a fantastic car!

@@TheBackRoads Porsche fitted lower profile tyres to 18" wheels on the 968 turbo S. Porsche knew what they were doing.
How it passed you? Turbos are 8V.
I could of sworn the turbo model had a 8v cylinder head, it was only the s and s2 models that got the 16v cylinder head
Correct
You are right turbos were 8v

@@TheBackRoads Exactly. I would love to see that put back. I believe S2 had it always black, while 968 had it optionally in body colour.
I forgot to add that I sold the 17" rims and acquired a set of 16 cup 1's problem sorted!
Great mouth watering video. But no follow up ??
I own two of these beautiful cars. And they are an absolute privilege to drive.
I fell in love with the Porsche's 944 from seeing it in the movie "Sixteen Candles". I don't know any other movies this car is in but that movie put it on the map?
Ok... 7 mo yha later, im here for more, more, more!!!
Haha Porsche goes nyoooooom!
Good vid. uwu
944 is still a beautiful car.
944 turbos have 8 valves not 16 !🧐

I really want an S2, I’ve had the turbo ( 220bhp ) and the 2.7
I’m looking but they are just too expensive now
I was never keen as mustard on the 911 but It's the opposite for the 924/944.
Any new videos for the 944?!?!?
So, where’s the update?
Any development on this project?
I have an S, S2 and 968, each was an imptovement but the 968 is tge best
I've had my white 944s 25 years, fantastic drivers car but been underrated because of the snobbery of the 911.
911 = widow maker
8v turbocharge not 16v but great video thank you
Not even an E46 :(
Old hat so whats the plan make a 944 look like a 911? Also old hat but 911 isint trapped in the 70s 80s like a 944
