    This is a drone gimbal but they do work pretty well. There is a little button on there that if you push it, it will give you a few seconds to get the camera in the orientation you want, and then it will remember it.

    Nice work! Those 18650s will be less than half the capacity they are marked with, however.

    I think 500 of these views are me watching this video trying to figure out this gimbal! Thanks again, just got mine working, had to update firmware and pay attention to the motor direction when inverting, it kept giving me a I2c error because when inverting the motor cables are pulled to tight and end in an error. Thanks again!

    Another great video. That tool you don't have (where you improvised with the screwdrivers) might be a small type of spanner wrench I'm guessing.

    Can you be a bit more specific on which pins you installed the joystick gimball? i have 2 sections of pins on my storm board. One with 5 pins ANd one with 4 pins and five pins directly underneath those 4 pins. It's like your board is different or something very confusing

    Andy I am gathering the components to do this. I have ta 3 axis gimbal (its not the brand you have, but it has worked well on my old 450), but I am noticing the length of the vertical metal piece that connects the yaw motor to the roll motor causes the camera mount arm to come into contact with the yaw motor when the camera rolls during stabilization. Where can I get that metal piece with a different length. I googling gimbal parts, but so far no luck. Cheers!

    how long does this gimbal last on 2 3.7v batteries ?

    • @sunwalker4017
      @sunwalker4017 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      depends on batteries but my 2 3400MaH Panasonic are good for >2h
      Update:
      ICR 18650 5000mAh = 1h 14min (Gearbest ~3$)
      Ultrafire yellow 5000mAh = 1h 10min (Gearbest ~3$)
      Panasonic 18650B 3400mAh = 2h 20min (Amazon ~20$)
      So it really depends on the quality of your batteries.

    great video. i have ordered my xiaomi yi and a 3s lipo and charger already. still cant decide between the 3 axis glb gimbal or the feiyu mini 3d. still amazing that we can build a stabilizer like this, including cheap camera and still stay below 200.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with zhiyun. much better

    • @CaninosRC
      @CaninosRC 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AndyRC which one? budget is also an issue. if its the one from your other video its a no go because of price. i am better of buying a readymade feiyu g4s or z1 pround or something. i am only using it as a stabilizer.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Can cino the g4s doesn't work very well from what I have seen

    • @CaninosRC
      @CaninosRC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +AndyRC the zhiyun tiny looks great but its a little bit too expensive for my needs i guess. the smooth footage you created in this setup with glb gimbal looks amazing and definitely better than some g4s footage i have seen on youtube. but on the other hand a lot of setup is needed i guess. i have no experience with electronic gimbals. however i do have a shoddy diy gimbal steadycam which is useless for 90% in Holland with its windy weather.

    Hello!
    Can you share your cfg? I have a problem with the angles of inclination. When the pitch angle I have more than about 70 degrees, very gimbal starts twitching, even though your video is stable. Similar situation with the Roll, while the camera rests on the lower engine - it bounces sharply in the opposite direction.

    Hey,
    I just bought the exact same parts.
    But the description of the gimbal says, that it needs "9-15V(3-4S)". 2x3,7V is 7,4V.
    In fact my gimbal wont work right. It makes strange noises and fails to initialise with the Tool from the program.
    Any help? Do I really need to buy another battery now? 3s Batterys are way bigger than 18650...

    Great stuff.
    It's obviously working, but how did you get on with the voltage? As in 2x batteries are giving you less than the state 9 - 15V for this gimbal? Did it flake out early on as you reached a lower voltage, and could a 3x cell torch be a better starting point, to put you more in the middle of the working voltage range?

    Andy, The torch you have recommended has been discontinued. If I am understanding things correctly the key requirements are to have A) 2 lipo batteries cap and B) multiple modes so one can use the pc card as mounting point. Anything else?

    • @jonbedet
      @jonbedet 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that's incorrect. The Gimbal specs also have changed so you need 3 of these 18650 lipo batteries.

    • @jonbedet
      @jonbedet 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's weird, I just reacted on the specific conversation (because of a notification through TH-cam) but I can't find it here below.
      In case it's hidden (is that even possible?), here's a copy paste. Full credits go to Matt Smith.
      ---
      Original post:
      "I made it just 3 weeks ago.
      1. You need to use a flashlight with 3 batteries, the gimbal specs have changed.
      www.ebay.com/itm/320977754561?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
      The flashlight is different, but the process is more or less the same. I used a 5mm/35mm screw to tie the gimbal with the flashlight.
      2. The firmware is quite old, it should be updated, although the gimbal works. Since it's so old, the latest o323BGCTool doesn't work, you need to search for an older version where it worked: github.com/olliw42/storm32bgc/tree/master/firmware%20binaries%20%26%20gui
      To update the firmware, you need a FTDI USB To TTL converter, I've ordered the FT232RL FTDI USB To TTL Serial Converter Adapter Module For Arduino.
      3. To connect to the gimbal to change it's settings you only need the supplied USB cable and the o323BGCTool application. Since it's in an unusual position (opposite as it's supposed to be), you need to recalibrate the gimbal first, otherwise it shakes and looks like it's broken (it's not, just a wrong configuration). All this can be found on TH-cam and olliw's site.
      4. I'm going to use the Arduino PS2 joystick since it's cheaper and smaller. But I'm still waiting for it to come so I haven't tested that yet. Once I have it, I'm thinking of 3D printing a case for it in a shape of a ring that I can slide on the flashlight.
      5. I'm using it with Xiaomi Yi and the supplied blue band doesn't fit - the hole is slightly smaller than the camera objective. I enlarged the hole, but while testing it I found out that it doesn't hold the camera in position very well. So I replaced it with a simple rubber band and it's been fine."
      ---
      Reaction to question, protected or unprotected 18650 batteries:
      "Hi, I'm using the Efest 3000mAh 35A IMR, they're non-protected batteries.
      Btw, another thing with these batteries is that the caps are flat, therefore the caps hardly touch each other in a series. I solved it by putting in between the batteries short pieces of a pen spring, and fixed them in the center by driving them through cardboard circles."
      ---
      Reaction to question, does it need to calibrate in the normal position first or immediately upsidedown:
      "I calibrated it already attached to the flashlight, i.e. upside down. It doesn't make sense to first calibrate it in a normal position, the parameters will be overwritten during the second calibration anyway."
      ---

    Hi andy, I built the gimbal with a 2S flashlight (didn't notice the change in gimbal's voltage requirements. It seems to try to level itself, then stops and gets a fast flashing green led as well as flashing red led - does it mean it needs to be calibrated, or that it's short in voltage?

  • @kentek3141
    @kentek3141 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Andy, found another small problem. Gimbal works a bit different on full battery charge over low charge. I just ordered a voltage regulator to put inline so I can deliver constant voltage. Have you ever done this on any of your project?

    great video. and i'm about to order the same parts and assemble this gimbal.
    please answer noob's questions:
    storm32 controller requires 11.1 - 16.8V of input voltage. how did you make it work with 7.4V?
    in this video you use trustfire batteries. link in description however is to efest high drain batteries. so what batteries does this gimbal need? i have found panasonic NCR18650B with 7A max discharge current, are they ok for the this gimbal?
    please help)

    • @rein2006
      @rein2006 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me is doesn't work. I've tried the efest and also have the Panasonic has they had more mAh. It is turning on and all, but i can't get it to configure. It will ask to connect the battery, even though it's turned on. So I'm guessing it doesn't get enough power to recognice is.

    Hello AndyRC. It's very rare for me to comment on TH-cam, but I made this item after seeing your video. Firstly your video was very inspiring and I want to say thank you.
    After assembly my handheld gimble worked very well more or less out of the box and just neede a little teeking in the settings.
    There was one thing that I found confusing in your video. It looks to me like you connected the red wire to the negative power and the black to the positive? I may have got it wrong, but I reversed these (red-positive black-negative) and when connecting I kept my fingers crossed and success everything worked fine! Thanks for the great video and I will subscribe and look forward to your next inspiring video. Steve.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the black wire should be connected to the "spring" and the voltage to the outer casing. it doesn't really matter to be fair. just make sure u put the batteries in the way u wired it up

    • @stevec3565
      @stevec3565 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MootzProductions +AndyRC. Sooo, I saw that too. I bought the exact torch and, it turns out, you are both right. When you put the batteries in to use the torch, the positive side of the battery goes towards the spring for it to light up. But, the video shows the negative wire soldered to the spring. Hence the confusion. I did the same thing +MootzProductions did and it worked perfectly with the positive side of the battery towards the spring. Just make sure you put the batteries into the torch the way you soldered it. MODIFICATION: Want more power??? Try the SKYRAY 15000LM (look in Ebay). It holds four (4) batteries!!! Excellent video btw.

      I swapped the connection in order to be consistent with the + and - on the case.
      the system worked for a couple of minutes so I think my batteries were done. I update you.
