    "I just really want my smile to represent the confidence that i feel inside"
    this is so relateable and such an easy way to explain why one would want jaw surgery

    I can totally relate to looking at pictures, realizing my smile isn't what I thought it was, because of my asymmetrical jaw.

    I'm 35 and I've hated photos of myself all my adult life. I don't even like catching my reflection in the mirror. I'm in the UK so I could get overbite correction surgery for FREE along with braces; I just need to be brave enough to do it. I really appreciate your honesty here Amanda, thanks for posting this!

    You look so pretty! I can't wait to get the surgery too. I have a crossbite and I look like a banana which is just horrible. Thanks for the videos! Now I can look forward to the surgery without fear.

    Wow, she's really pretty. Not that she wasn't before, but wow what an amazing improvement! I'm getting jaw surgery and I've been watching all of very videos. Amanda, if you read this, thank you for sharing your story. I've been getting headaches and have had high blood pressure for a lot of my youth. I'm 28 now and I'll be 30 when it's all over, but I'm looking forward to what an amazing transformation I'll have too.

    did your voice change as a result of the operation? And if not, can you imagine that that happens?

    Wow! Such a giant and awesome transformation! My surgery is next week and I'm nervous but excited. I have the exact same situation, bottom jaw growth and a weak upper jaw. When did your swelling go away to the point you could clearly see your results?

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exciting! My swelling was so great/manageable (my guess- because of the nutrition plan I was on) that I could see my results within a few days. The majority of the swelling went away after a few weeks, and the rest was gone after a few months. Please let me know if we can help with anything at all! My jaw surgery group, The Smile Diaries, would love to support you! The web address to apply is bit.ly/jawsurgeryfacebook

    Hi Amanda. I came across your videos because I have always hated what I used to think was my "double chin" but I now realize is a jaw problem. All my life I remember having this "double chin" even when I was 5'2 and under 100 lbs so I didn't understand how a thin person could have a double chin. After researching different jaw problems I definitely have a jaw issue. My problem is actually the opposite of yours because my jaw receded an kinda squishes the skin of my neck and thats what makes me look like I have that double chin thing. I'm really scared about getting corrective surgery and also not fond of the idea of getting braces AGAIN, but over the last 3 or 4 years I have noticed my jaw frequently hurts when I try and chew tough foods like steak. Also sometimes if I yawn too wide my jaw feels like it pops out of the socket and its extremely painful. But since that doesn't happen too often I don't know if its better that I just live with it. My biggest fear about surgery is that I will not get feeling back in my face and will have to live with a numb face for my whole life. What do you think I should do? Do you really think its worth it in my situation? (I would show you a picture but I cant add one here unfortunately...)

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jessica! I would DEFINITELY get a consultation set up with your oral surgeon. Numbness is a risk for this surgery, and that won't really go away. But you have to weigh the pros with the cons. Your oral surgeon would be able to talk about your options. I will say this, though: ask yourself, "are the risks worth the outcome?" That should guide your heart a bit

    How long did it take for all your swelling go down? Did surgery change ur nose ?

  • @irishinsight

    I really cannot make a decision about this surgery for me. The surgeon says I can get my underbite pretty close with Invisalign and he doesn’t think mine is bad enough for surgery. But as much as I hate to admit it I am worried about the aesthetic. I want my face to have symmetry. On the other hand I sing for a living, so surgery would be a huge setback for me. Not to mention the risk of numbness is more detrimental for a singer as well. I just wish I could see how each result would look and find a way to decide.

  • @bellajay8466

    I have an underbite and it is bothering me so much asthetically. I have always felt beautiful and confident on the inside but I just can't accept they way my bite looks. I am looking forward to turning 18 next year in may and finally being able to take action and get braces. I would love to start with it right away, but my parents don't allow it, so I'll have to wait. They are really unsupportive about my problem. I have severe jaw joint aches every now and then and everytime I get them I just want to fucking kill myself because it is so frustrating to not be able to do anything at the moment. I am also scared that my insurance won't cover everything because I literally do not have any money for anything, I am still in Highschool. I really need someone to just encourage me in my decision to get my bite fixed..

    I have watched your videos with great interest (all excellent). I am much older than you (nearly 58) and due to an auto accident as a child (over 50 years ago), I will be having this surgery. When I saw the CT scan, I cried. I am no medical professional, but know what how the joints should look. The surgery will involve upper and lower joints. The surgeon said the average recovery is 3.5 weeks. I have two questions: what was your pain level the first week and when how long did you need the pain medication. Please advise. Thank you.

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pain level was not high, and I i did not need painkillers for more than 48 hours post-op. I went to normal grade ibuprofen (to help with swelling) at that point. Best of luck!!

    hello Amanda u really look beautiful i have only 1 question how look it took u to eat normally again after the surgery and u were able to eat tough food ?

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to consult your oral surgeon about how long they would recommend eating soft (to solid) foods. I ate non-chew foods for 10 days, soft foods for 4-6 weeks. But it's important to talk to your oral surgeon/orthodontist. Best of luck!

    Your videos are so helpful!! am getting my surgery this December and I had a question about Shakeology. You said in another video that you drank it before and after your surgery, right? If I am going to start drinking it before, when do you think is a good time to do that?

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @julia- It would be best to begin 4 weeks before and stop 10 days post-op (as your anesthesiologist will tell you to stop any multivitamin or supplement usage prior to any surgery). Please email me at amanda.plazek@gmail.com and I can talk with you about finding the best options possible, and my referral lnik!

      Aw thank you! I started drinking shakeology on Thursday, and the chocolate is delicious! I'm mostly concerned about swelling. I am a student, and I have to go back to school 2 weeks after my surgery. I was wondering how long the swelling usually lasts. I also wonder how much weight I will lose. I am a swimmer, and I really don't want to lose my muscle mass.

    Hi Amanda! You might've talked about this in your other videos but I was wondering if you can tell me how long it took for the numbness to go away completely (if it did). Your results look really amazing but honestly the risks that come with it are pretty scary so please let me know if possible :)

    • @amandaplazek
      @amandaplazek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angie! The risks are definitely scary and everyone is different. But 95% of my numbness went away within the first few months. I still have a little tingly spot in my upper right lip, but it's not completely numb. Reach out to me at www.amandaplazek.com and contact me if I can help with anything else! I'm here for you!
