You have not and cannot "let us down", Claude. We're here because of you. When you can do, fine. When you can't, we'll wait for you. You're an inspiration to all, and you've given a lot of us a good kick in the stash. Whatever you decide to do, we'll happily support you. May 2024 be a better year for you.

Me too. I'm moving tomorrow (had to pay more to be able to move slowly and not a whirlwind all in one day) and my last resort to keep sewing is I'll have the chance to get a new table and put down soft flooring in a space that won't bother other people. If that doesn't work, I'll be trying crochet!

Thank you so much for your honesty in sharing all you do with us. I've struggled to keep up with things I really enjoy. It can be tough even on good days. I'll let you in on a secret though, I didn't start following you because of the particular crafts or projects you have shared. I follow you, and support you, because of you. Your knowledge, your personality, your sense of humor, and yes your stubbornness. I have absolutely learned many new things from you (I think of you every time I use your precision pinning method), but my enjoyment here is much more than that. So yes, I would love to see you try new things, even if you think you are bad at them (I promise I will only laugh with you, not at you). I would also welcome videos where you are just discussing something (historical costuming details, picking yarns for different applications, favorite tea, favorite physics concept [mine is wave-particle duality]... ). I sincerely hope things improve with time, but I will be here rooting for you and enjoying what you can share. At the same time, please don't feel pressured to do more than you can. You will not let anyone down by being kind to yourself. Take care, and I will indeed see you next time.

You’re not letting anyone down. It’s so important to take care of yourself and put your health first. I don’t think anyone who watches your channel will not understand and respect that. We will just be delighted to get that next notification that signals the next video and whatever new craft or topic or reinvigorated interest that brings. And I think many of us will be delighted to know that, whenever you return to us, it’s because you want to and feel ready to. Mind yourself, and may 2024 bring you many good things.

I started following you because of how honest you were in your videos. About your disability, about your crafting, about your mood. As a fellow spoonie who crafts, I can say that it will all be there when you go back to it and decide you want to do it again, or not. I once took 10 years between knitting the first sock and the second sock of a pair. The socks didn't care. The yarn and needles were still just as nice. The short you made about disability being neutral really hit home for me. Thank you for making it. As to the crafting/hobbies, you are a good story teller in your videos. You can tell stories about whatever is interesting you and bringing you joy at the moment and I'd still watch. Bring yourself some joy!

I had a time consuming successful business making fabric handbags. My sales slowed and I lost outlets. This coincided with the onset of severe mental issues for which I could get no help. Like you I became demotivated not wanting to get out of bed as i had nothing to do. I was horrified at the way I was behaving, I had always been able to cope with and resolve problems, no more. I started knitting, and gradually became absorbed in reading about and watching videos on vintage knitting. So for the last two months this is all I have done. I finally was able to accept this was OK. I was not wasting my life rather I was looking after myself. I am content to carry on and let things change if they will. As for your future you are a great communicator, have an appealing sense of humour and I think this is what you could consider working on. Think about topics you know about, your past work experiences your interests and just come on here and talk. I will listen to you and I am sure many others will.

I'm 57, and I live with fibromyagia that I've battled my entire adult life. Your words are very comforting and encouraging to me. I had to retire from my wage earning work 2 years ago, and I have struggled to find a new normal and figure out how to continue doing the sewing and crafting that I love. It looks a lot different from what I expected it to. I am learning to be okay with that. You will find your new normal and you'll have plenty of material to use for TH-cam if you want to do that. There are so many of us out here who can relate to your situation and would be thrilled to share in your process of finding that new normal...if you want to share it. I'm praying you will be able to do what's best for you, and I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing you next time!

I am a massive theater fan. Do you think it would be possible for you to tell us about what goes on behind the scenes at the theater? Maybe you could select an aspect of the theater and tell about it possibly using vintage photos as illustrations. Each month, we could learn something new about the behind the scenes world of theater. No sewing involved, but still costume related. ❤ Whatever you produce for us, we will be happy. Most of us are here because we truly enjoy seeing you and whatever you are doing. Please take care of yourself first and foremost. It's not worth harming yourself to put out a video.

Came here to suggest this, but with an addition:
Maybe Claude could draw out what she would design for a particular character, if she were to costume that character. There could be an analysis bit of why 'x' doesn't work in this production's costume for a character, but 'y' in another production's does.

As a fellow stubborn disabled person, I am so proud of you for making it through the year. It's an accomplishment that a lot of people take for granted, but it does deserve to be celebrated. You're here, you got some answers, and you're figuring out a new stage in your life. That can be incredibly scary, but it can also be exciting. I will be here no matter what because I think you have a great personality and, honestly, your videos make me feel a lot less alone. As my own health has worsened, a lot of people have left my life because it's too hard for them. And while I get it, your videos always bring me hope. I originally came for your knitting content, but I've since started learning how to sew because of your videos. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me that you've helped simply by being yourself and putting up content that is honest and heartfelt while still being witty. You are my favorite channel to watch and I am more than happy to wait for whatever you want to put out. I hope you find some joy in exploring new possibilities for yourself.

As a multicrafter who does half a dozen crafts regularly and is often trying new things, I hope you can find some new things to explore that work for you and bring you joy. You have honestly become my favorite youtuber, and it's not because of your knitting videos, and it's not because of your sewing videos. It's because of who you are. Your demeanor and charm, your wit and candor, you could probably narrate watching paint dry and it would be enjoyable. Your videos feel like a friend coming for a visit. You do you and we'll be here whenever you're able to stop by.

I absolutely get where you’re coming from with all of this, including the medication causing weight gain. Equally in terms of costuming. On the back of a migraine today, I’m watching this. It’s absolutely fair to put yourself first and blog whatever you can, whether it’s craft related or not. Take the time you need. We will all be here. I definitely think you’ve got this. Sweet sweet Claude. As someone with disability myself, and someone who has not been able to craft much the last few months, you are not alone. Crafts will wait for you, and I will wait for you. Your perspective is so valuable to me. It makes me feel less alone, and more accomplished about what I CAN do!
As for new crafts, I crochet. I have limited use of one hand, and I am doing more than ok with crochet, even intricated designs. The most important thing is posture, I am careful to have my arms rest comfortably on pillows to avoid any tension in my neck and shoulders. My work is raised up in order to not strain my neck. I cross-stitch the same way. I have a hoop stand that I raise to a comfortable level, and I rest my elbows on pillows to not strain my shoulders.
Whatever you do, whatever you find, I hope you enjoy it. See you next time, and all my best wishes for the New Year to you and yours!

I'm a crafty woman nearing 30 with ME/CFS, moderate-severe, and it's a big part of the reason I'm drawn to your content. It's been morbidly nice to see someone with almost my exact interests going through the same struggles.
I've also had to give up sewing in the last few years. I can usually pace out the sewing portion over days or weeks, but it's the fitting that does me in every time. Then I'll inevitably fatten out of my lovely garment and have to start the whole process again when I've recovered, it's just not worth the exertion. My shawls and cardigans have never done me dirty like that, and I can knit/crochet in whatever sofa position I've scrunched myself into.
Please don't feel like you have to keep producing for our sakes. The last thing any of us want is to see you overworking yourself into being housebound or on permanent bedrest. If you need to make fewer, shorter videos, do that. If you need to quit youtube or crafting for a while, do that. If you need to let it go forever, I know from experience how much that hurts, but do it.
Taking care of your health is the most important thing you can do right now. You have our support, whatever you decide.

This is the first of your vlogs I’ve watched, and I just wanted to say “thank you” for giving voice to so much of what I’ve been struggling with, as someone who is also aging, with multiple disabilities (and has new boobs too, to figure out what to do with lol). Just seeing you thoughtfully addressing and contemplating how to move forward is really comforting, inspiring, and so helpful. I’ve been working to accept that I can no longer knit up a project until it’s done, or sew up a garment in one go without debilitating pain, or even cross-stitch for extended periods of time. One thing your video made me think of is to work on better organizing my various WIPs, as more of them are going to hang around a lot longer than they used to. Watching videos of how to make organizational items (project bags for cross-stitch) was what led me into clothes sewing last year. Now I’m thinking maybe I might be able to find some smaller, less taxing projects to help with better organizing my WIPs, supplies, and stashes, which might also make me feel better about having things there, waiting to be worked on. Anyways, just wanted to share the positive impact your video had on me, in case it helped brighten your day a bit to know.

Another of the silent watchers here (well does that sound creepy or what? But I’m not sure I’ve watched enough videos to be a lurker…)
Started watching you with your 1930’s dress video and stayed for your down-to-earth attitude. It’s easy with crafting when things don’t go to plan to spiral a little (lot) into an emotional free fall. To me, you are like the Marcus Aurelius Stoic Master of the knitting/crochet/sewing community. When things go wrong, it’s a problem but it can probably be dealt with and you tell us your plan for dealing with it. No fuss. No mess. A breath of fresh air. Even if that isn’t something you always felt/feel (with the magic of editing etc), your videos were comforting to watch because of this.
Thank you for everything that goes into making them.

This IS the representation that we want and need. The visibility of someone who is going through the same thing, not necessarily the same way or struggling with the same things, but seeing that and knowing I'm not alone and those words already spoken makes it easier for me and us to say it too. So. Thank you ❤ So very much!
A thought: I really enjoyed and appreciated your tips video on making with disability. Grouping, modifications, the spring loaded scissors have been an absolute game changer for my hypermobile hands! When it's neck/migraine related, it's harder to find ways to work around, but until then, or in prevention of "until then", having work arounds is really nice. A series of just trying little craft kits to see how you like it might bring some play to you as well 😊
You're an excellent storyteller and I really enjoy the education aspect of your retro videos. The end piece is really cool but learning about the construction and the "make do and mend"/historical context, how even just the yarns are different, it's very interesting!
Mostly, I just enjoy listening to you talk about things. It feels like a penpal or very snail mail, we'll see it whenever we see it, and we enjoy it because it's something you created. ❤
Bestest of wishes for the year ahead! May our collective health be improved, and if not, may our curiosity and community help us continue to create to bear it. ❤

As an invalid bedridden most of the time for a decade, I empathize. I am permanently on oxygen, and have progressive paralysis from the waist down, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, etc.
    1. Immediate things you can try: for your neck pain, one of those "facial tightening" electromagnetic things with red light has helped me enormously. It has such light currents you almost dont feel them. I run mine, with the red light on and the ems on, over my painful neck and face areas. 10-20 minutes makes a huge difference. Far fewer migraines.
    2. Change the chair you sit in. Change the sewing table height if you use a machine. If you are sitting while hand sewing, try reclining in a reclining chair with multiple angle positions, or an adjustable bed. Try different angles. Adjust frequently to avoid fatigue in any one position.
    3. Change tools. I used to knit with standard needles. That doesnt work in bed in the positions I must be in for my lungs and back. Switched to circular needles even for non-round knitting, and prop arms where I can rest them with very little muscle use or strain. It works amazingly. Find what works for you in the moment, and adapt as necessary.
    4. Give yourself permission to rest when you need to or want to. Toss out feelings of guilt about it. I literally picture myself in my head kicking those feelings away. :)
    5. Dont pressure yourself to do what you dont want to do, or that you feel others want you to do. You are in charge. No one else. Projects can wait till if and when you feel like doing them.
    6. Its ok to add or subtract things from the focus of your channel. Cant do something physical? Review things connected to it. Yarn, thread, fabric, patterns, etc. Review things from history that people used for, or made, in your favorite interests.
Accept, adapt, change. You dont need to fit into anyone elses mold. Make your own. You dont need to represent a community. :) You dont need to be a representative for anyone else. That puts pressure on yourself, which doesnt help. Share your experiences if you want, and others will find they are not alone in how they feel. Others can find out how it is to live with chronic conditions.
Be yourself. People like you for who you are, not what you do. What you do is a part of you, not vice versa.
Intense, unrelenting pain is emotionally and mentally tougher than the physical. Our brain responds to stimuli, good, bad, indifferent. If every time you do something you like, your body responds with intense pain, your brain says okay, I dont want to do that anymore. It hurts. Negative feelings build up around those things. Sadness builds at what we cant do anymore. Rather than forcing it, take time off, then adapt conditions to see if you can avoid the pain triggers and the negative thoughts and emotions.
Accept your body as it is, not how it was or how it may be in the future. It is what it is right now, so learn to be as comfortable in it as you can be in the moment. If you do sew something, make things that adjust to many shapes of body. Loose unfitted working class or peasant style clothes, perhaps, with adjustable lace up non-rigid corsets that shape the dress but can be comfortable in any position and adapt to a changing shape.
Look for online resources to help you release your physical pain as much as possible while you await seeing a physical therapist. There are many online professionals who make and share videos on various therapies, with demonstrations on how to do it. If something hurts, stop. If it feels better, do it.
There can be nutritional deficiencies that increase your pain or exhaustion. Look for these and address them through intake or supplementation. It can make a big difference. Something so simple as a glass of orange juice every morning or vitamin B12 shots can make quite a difference.
These are things that help me in my severe disabilities, some of which are the same as yours.
Accept. Adapt. Change. Repeat. ;) You can do this.

I just finished PT for my cervicogenic headaches! It was miraculously helpful for a 2 month headache when neither medication nor rest made a dent. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. I also have ME and you inspired me to get a wheelchair this year. And to be brave enough to actually use it in public (at work!!) when I needed it to recover. Similarly I also have lost the joy of knitting and sewing (and some other activities too) this year and it's been really hard. I'm trying water aerobics in the new year (there's a study about how it can increase exercise tolerance in people with ME) so maybe that'll be my new thing 😂🎉❤

Sending love & support from a sort-of-lurker & fellow chronic illness person (not sure if sufferer or survivor - like you alluded to, it depends on the day!) I'm really sorry to hear you've had such a shit time of it with your migraines this year, it's so disheartening when your condition stops you from doing what you love. I hope your physio appointment is helpful, mainly for the sake of you being able to continue doing something you clearly enjoy & have a great interest in! This comment section really passes the vibe check (what an excellent group of people you've amassed!) & I hope this all reassures you that you don't HAVE to do something you're not enjoying just for us. For the past few years you've been a huge source of inspiration & learning to me across all of your crafts - I really appreciate your dry sense of humour about things, your realism, & your self forgiveness when things aren't "as they should be" (as a perfectionist, that last one in particular has been really helpful for me). Whatever you go on to do on this channel, I for one will be here to support you - almost certainly with a steady stream of increasingly complex knitting projects that you've inspired me to have a go at! Wishing you the happiest of New Year's, Claude, & here's hoping your 2024 will bring you better health xx

Reminds me of 2014... I had finally started college and I was doing so great, so happy, then the pain started, the cramping, till the point I couldn't keep up, stopped college, stopped kendo, stopped even working... It took me 6 years to find out I had lupus. Last year I restarted college, the rhythm is different, I'm not young or healthy enough for that, but I'm moving forward. When you're disabled, specially when a new symptom appears, is so difficult to see options, solutions... It takes time and perseverance. What a very mature way of framing all this in your mind! You have taught me so much about ordering my priorities, taking care of myself, and that sometimes, that one "goal" was simply an interesting vision - a thought - that I don't care enough to put the time into and I will absolutely survive if it never comes to fruition. I'm so proud of you for taking care of yourself so well! One thing I learned (in therapy haha) is to have my "to do" list, of course, but also to have my "ta da" list. There are so many accomplishments that were not on my to-do list that I am still proud of. So I hope you can focus more on your "ta-das" rather than what you didn't accomplish from your "to-dos"

@loiscassels8966 Wow. I didn't know they were still finding new variants. I'm so sorry. I've had to make accommodations, have afos, am losing muscle in legs & hands. Me feet aren't deformed yet, but can't feel em. I'm doing as much crochet & diamond painting as I can, while I can. I know what's coming and it scares the crap out of me.

@@TheWolfwife My neuro was tickled pink. He’s going to write it up for a journal. At least maybe I’ll contribute something to science. Good health to you. ❤️🇨🇦
