"the corridor of uncertainty" Hadlee mastered that better than anyone. He was my hero growing up. Read 'Hadlee on Cricket' numerous times as a kid. He presented me with a certificate at school when I was 16. Happy days.

In my humble opinion, as painful as it may be as an Aussie, Sir Richard Hadlee was arguably the best fast bowler the world has seen. He was also one of the greatest all rounders.

@@kaushikdas4606 Sir, he was a complete fast bowler. He didn't have the lightening speed of Marshall, Waqar and Roberts.
He had guile deceptively quick. He was unplayable many times like against Australia in a test match where he took 9/52 in a test innings

Hadlee played mainly in Australia & New Zealand with few overseas tours where as Roberts bowled in all test playing countries during his era & bowled on all types of wicket. Besides, he had to face intensified competition from his legendary team lmates like Holding, Garner, Marshall etc. Hadlee was the main strike bowler mildly supported by Chatfield, Lans Cairns etc. As a result he had a better opportunity to take wicket compared to Roberts. Therefore, Roberts was better than him in terms of bowling on all types of pitch. Hadlee bowled on pitches only famous for bounce & swing but Roberts bowled successfully on fast, slow, spinning all types of track. This proves his superiority.

Hadlee and Lillee were greats only in Australia and England, otherwise they were below average. When Hadlee saw destruction of his hero Lillee in Pakistan, he started skipping tours to Pakistan. hehe

In 1988 tour to india hadlee was almost unplayable on indian wickets which hardly gave any assistance to fast bowlers.

@@riyazahmed208 All fast bowlers who bowled well in India hav poor records in Pakistan, except Marshall, Walsh and McGrath. Hadlee, Lillee, Donald cudnt do anything in Pakistan lol

@@aarifboy Richard hadlee was superb everywhere in the world on every pitch even Pakistani batsmen found it difficult to play him except javed miandad . He could get any batsman out on his day on any wicket . I rate him better than marshall and donald and walsh. Also , in 1988indian batting lineup had only two world class batsmen vengsarkar and azharuddin. There was no tendulkar no gavaskar . Srikkanth could not play hadlee well.India won the series 2-1 in one match vegsarkar topscored with 101 and india won. In one low scoring test at hyderabad azhariddin top scored with 82 and india won. One test was won by newzealand where hadlee was man of the match. Overall best bowler of series was hadlee but series was won by India under dilip vengsarkars captaincy. Even in odis hadlee was best bowler but india won the series. This is the series where in one odi hadlee was injured. Azharuddin made use of this opportunity and coming at number 6 scored worlds fastest odi century and india won in baroda. Vengsarkar was retained as captain after this tour but Richard Hadlee achieved greatness for being the most difficult fast bowler to face on indian wickets.

Good bowling, but nothing extra ordinary (compared to someone like Anderson). I guess that's enough with the Kookaburra ball.

That’s because the highlights give no idea of how extraordinarily consistent he was. His greatness was down to giving the batsmen absolutely no respite. You’d get the same impression with McGrath. I love Anderson, but I’d put him below Hadlee.

Peter Sleep walked on an lbw. Today in the ‘spirt if the game’ batsmen edge the ball and don’t walk, or they walk out of their crease get stumped and don’t walk. Have to say it’s a game of thugs now not gentlemen.
