TASCAM is Teac's professional line. I am not really sure this is truly a pro unit, but there were several models from this era where TEAC rebadged some of their consumer stuff and called it "pro" by adding a few upgrades. In this case, I'm guessing that the addition of rack ears made this a "pro" model.

I have this unit and have taken it apart. It’s not necessary to unsolder the tray loading motor to remove the small board to clean the leaf switches. The tray loading motor can be unscrewed from the other side once you release the tray retaining clips and slide out the plastic tray to reveal the belt and gears. Then remove the rubber belt from the motor and unscrew the two screws holding the motor on.

I have a couple of TEAC CD recorders (yes TEAC and TASCAM are one and the same) and I've had the same kind of experiences with them. The actual performance and general design is pretty good, but the build quality on them is atrocious with bad solder joints etc all over the place and some really poor component choices (United" and "Chong" Chinacon caps not acceptable on a $400 device!).
Such a shame - I absolutely swore by TEAC in the '80s and' 90s as a manufacturer of impeccable quality, but their standards have really taken a dump in recent years - to the point where they give Japanese companies a bad name.

Agree 100%. I’m really shocked that Tascam would put their name on this very low quality product.

Tascam and TEAC are the same company. TEAC is the division aimed at general consumers and Tascam is their higher quality line aimed at the professional market.

Probably wore that poor spindle motor out over years of music playing in a church. Wonder how many thousands of hours that little motor has been humming along. Would have been curious to see inside the old motor to see the condition of the little spring wipers and commutator. I have seen some that were worn away almost to nothing.

Hello, I have the CD a700 pretty much identical model. There is no display on the lcd at all and the disc tray will not open. The tape deck works fine. Any idea where to start?

I have the same deck ( Teac CD-A500 ) that is in very good cosmetic condition, but has a slight problem, when i first got it, the CD drawer wouldn't open but with some slight convincing i took care of that issue. But i ran into one major problem shorty after, which is, when i put in the disc it seems to read it ( the disc will spin a few times for short periods ) but then will give me the " No Disc" indicator. So i messed around with that more, and then after a while i got it where it showed me all the tracks, i went to push play, and then the "No Disc" indicator showed up again. So i was wondering if i could get some insight to this problem. Please and Thanks.

@NorCal715 Good vid. Question- I been wanting to find extact info on something for years. I run alot of older Tascam cd recorders. Back when they was built well. I need tray belts. My main focus is around the Tascam cd-rw750. Do you have a exact part number or size and source where I can get that quality belt? Last- I have many Sony cdr-W33 recorders. Same tray belt issuse info needed. Side note- if not do you have a link for a multi bag of belts differ sizes for trays.

Hello i have tascam CDA 700 and When I plug in the turntable and turn it on, the CD player drawer opens by itself, closes again, opens again and stops.
It is impossible to play a CD and every time I press the open close button it does the same thing to me.
Do you have any idea where it may come from thank

Clean the open close switch in the CD player and see if that helps. It may not know where the drawer is. Thanks.

I was curious to know how did you pull de disk table from the motor shaft. I tried to do it in one of my cd players and it's very tight fit - like it was factory pressed - I did not use any tool, but it was stuck. So I stopped before break anything - is there any technical advise you could give me?

Different height shims and a screwdriver. It is a very tight fit. Took a lot to get it to slide off.

Total cost from ebay around 800 believe it or not.
I got the Pioneer 707 for 38 bucks and free shipping!
    This was back in 2005.
