When I visited Japan a few years ago, I had the honor of experiencing a tour of a similar type of building. Even more amazing was the Great-Grandson of the man who built it, gave us the tour and spoke about his family history and what it was like living there. This was in Osaka, and I can’t recall the name, but I would love to re-visit it.
Architecture and gardens, you made my day! ^__^ About Western gardens, if it's true that French and Italian gardens are quite formal and symmetrical, English garden are all about tortuous paths in "seemingly" untamed nature where symmetry or geometric shapes are no factors (except for the buxus labyrinths, because you always need an exception or two xD ).
The instrument is a Koto. I was going ask in a comment, but went and looked up Japanese Stringed music instruments and BANG! found a list. I found some music on TH-cam. That was easy. Arigato.

Impressive! Something that makes me curious is about cleaning. I mean, everything is natural in there, and there are some lovely antiques too. But dust may enter the ambient naturally, so the cleaning would have some wearing effect over the years. Even so, everything looks quite pristine (at least through the lenses). Oh, I really want to spent a time in Japan someday...

It was lovely to see the architecture and gardens. By the way the performer of the Koto has admirable skill. While seemingly simple it is quite challenging to maintain music and flip the sheet music at the same time. It's why I get so annoyed with music books because they are always so awkward to flip mid song!

What Up Shogo, thanks for the great Content. I was wondering if you have ever thought of doing a video on the Art of Bonsai. I'm a Bonsai Artist in the USA, of +15 years. I want to make a pilgrimage to Japan one day to visit the most famous nurseries and sites for bonsai and its associated Pottery Arts. I've obviously seen most if not all the content out there on the subject, but i thought it was a topic i was surprised you never covered.
LOVE the all the wood in the interior. All of the vertical pieces of wood in there are likely place "as the tree grew" to honor the way the tree made the wood...Sashimono don't use the wood "up-side down".

While it's clear that the expat is quite knowledgeable as it's his job, I'm pretty sure a Japanese would have known what that "round thing you put on the gate" is called and a local, even if he didn't know English and Shogo needed to translate would have known more and made this video look more authentic. It's that authenticity I'm looking for on this channel. It's what a Japanese experiences when he goes to a Machiya. What an English speaking tourist experiences, that I already know or will eventually know when the pandemic calms down. Please get Japanese guides next time, in the end, as tourists we can have the experience you just shared in this clip in any tourist trap we might access, but we can never be treated as locals and well, learn to act a bit more like one when we can finally get there.

While it's clear that the expat is quite knowledgeable as it's his job, I'm pretty sure a Japanese would have known what that "round thing you put on the gate" is called and a local, even if he didn't know English and Shogo needed to translate would have known more and made this video look more authentic. It's that authenticity I'm looking for on this channel. It's what a Japanese experiences when he goes to a Machiya. What an English speaking tourist experiences, that I already know or will eventually know when the pandemic calms down. Please get Japanese guides next time, in the end, as tourists we can have the experience you just shared in this clip in any tourist trap we might access, but we can never be treated as locals and well, learn to act a bit more like one when we can finally get there.
