- Driving in Jamaica is not for foreigners because you need to understand the driving culture to know how to drive without having an accident. Sometimes it is better to hire someone to drive if you dont have a lot of driving experience

Thank you. Mandeville is my favorite Jamaican town. I went to boarding school there. I would walk into town every weekend, with friends, to purchase little "nonsence gifts" for my boyfriend. Sometimes I would run into him, buying flowers for me. He would hide them behind his back. Mandeville had the most beautiful flowers on the planet, sold in the market place on weekends.
Driving in Jamaica is def not for foreigners....but I like the thrill. It's not safe though. In my 3rd year driving I entered the highway on the wrong side of traffic and by God's grace there was no cars/trucks coming. The scenic drive on the North Coast is beautiful tho. Another great drive is the Portland coastline...kinda like heaven :)

I drove all over JA when I was there an absolutely loved it. Although there are a lot of careless drivers.

I'm not a scary person but I think the only way I'd drive myself in Jamaica with those crazy drivers & people walking all in the streets is if I had a highway snow plough with a train horn so when I come through they can't say they didn't hear my warning!!!

I am from NYC...I drove in Jamaica for the first time...People out there have no regard for safety..They don't care who they cut off and or hit...LoL...
+CJ Felder I have travelled to Thailand for 11 times in the past 8 years. It's my favourite country in the world to travel. Thailand has the same socio-economic status as Jamaica (nevermind the land space), and yet the roads national scenic roads and secondary highways in Thailand are literally better than the roads in Jamaica (disregarding the 2000 highway). This has nothing to do with the fact that Thailand has more land than Jamaica, it's just that the roads in Thailand are much better, but like Jamaica you will still find people disregarding safety on the roads. (Thaland also drives on the left like Jamaica). I know because I drove in Thailand and there were two instances when Thai motorists overtook me in a way that was unsafe, all I did was stay in my lane. I know that I can do the same when I go to Jamaica in two weeks from now (I reserved a rental car in Montego Bay). But when I go to Jamaica I will not drive on any B-class roads unless I have to.

Ikr. I've never been to Jamaica but known people from there, seen documentaries and read a lot of stuff. In all these driving videos of Jamaica this is how it is. I like Jamaica and I love the accent but wow how they drive is atrocious. In every video there is a million people in the street like they don't care people are driving. It's the same when you drive a bunch of cars fly and I mean fly right by you. To boot there is cops just standing there doing nothing. Here in the States that stuff don't fly. The cops will be called in a heartbeat on your butt.
leonkennedy1259 you have to understand how people use the roads....hardly anyone gets hit from walking in the road....accidents between vehicles...now that's a different matter but these mostly occur because of stupid speed and overtaking

The dude in the red shirt on the phone scared the heck out of me walking in the street like he did.
I'm about to retire soon for sure will be hiring a driver when I go there.

I know that road. That secion of Manchester Road used to be a one way going in the opposite direction up to Grove Rd.

Oh please. Driving in Jamaica is simple and easy. Done it plenty of times and will be doing it more again.

I love driving in Jamaica, but not at night the approaching vehicles drive with their lights on full beam blinding you, you just have to be patient because they will pull out in front of you.
@BigPete222 You are right about that. What is more interesting is that now a lot of people are putting fog lights in their vehicles and drive with all of them at full power in the middle of the town. I remember in my country you would get a ticket for doing it.
@@walmos It's against the law here in the UK. You only use the full beam on the dark country roads and dip it when facing upcoming vehicles
Some of the lights are generally bright though. I was told once that my light was bright and white but that's how it is and I don't use high beam unless I'm on a country road. I think my lights are those halogenic ones.
Just flash back like you would in any other country and if they refuse keep your brights on and try not to crash
Back in the late 50s and early 60s when I was growing up in Kingston , many of the American made cars still had the steering wheel on the left hand side. Is that still the case?
Cars here have the steering wheel on the right. Most of them are Japanese cars like Honda,Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and others like BMW, Audi, Volvo, Kia and a little of other brands.
