    Great video. I know we always say that, but then they always are. Red Mountain. The Lava River Cave. Surprising they are in the Flagstaff area. Your videos are an escape to magical places. On the one hand they are pleasant entertainment. On the other hand they sometimes make me sad that I had no knowledge of then 20, 30, 40 years ago. But on the other hand, I would never have known and experienced many of them vicariously if not for your channel. Awesome videos. Informative and entertaining commentary. Love how you talk yo us. PS: As for the food porn, what's cookin in your own kitchen looks like a very tasty gourmet meal.

    Red Mountain is my favorite hike near Flagstaff. Hauntingly beautiful and great photographic opportunity. Always feel like I'm being watched while I'm there by faces in the rock. Good to see they put in a more permanent ladder.

    • @JerryArizona

      It kinda felt a little ominous to me too. That's why I put in that cello song. Kinda fit the vibe I felt.

    I hiked Red Mountain several times while working at the Grand Canyon. It's an easy hike and very beautiful. I also went to the lava cave, that was 15 years ago and hardly anyone even knew about it and it wasn't easy to find. There was no one else there except the group of friends I was with. Another great hike in the area is Red Butte. I've hiked it several times and is one of my all time favorite hikes. Thanks for the video.

    Loved the Red Mountain segment; very well done! Eventhough there were many people in the cave, all those people with their lights did give you the opportunity to get a better sense of scale and depth in that dark environment :-)

    • @JerryArizona

    I missed Tina this time, the two of you are fun to watch. I like how you can get silly and have juvenile moments while adulting better than I do.
    Glad she shows up at the end. 🏜️🌋✌️🖖

    I love the sound of the birds. In Westwood in Northern California, there were birds singing every day in the forest when I first moved there 20 years ago. Around 15 years ago I noticed that there were no more birds singing and the holes where the chipmunks lived were unswept. There was no noise in the forest anymore, except for the crazy sounding coyotes! Last year, I finally noticed a chipmunk and a squirrel, and the little birds were coming back. , along with a few hummingbirds. Where I am now, on the mouth of the Klamath River, I get all kinds of wildlife. I still wonder why the animals were gone so long from Westwood. I think it's poison in that town. What an amazing place. We have lava tubes off of highway 44 called the "Subway Tunnels" and "Captain Jack's Stronghold" has Lava Tunnels where Native people hid from the Calvary.

    It's 35 or 40 years since I did Lava River Cave. At that time there were no permits involved. Possibly it was not so well known as I didn't see anyone else there at the time. Don't recall the the exact year but it was in the depth of the summer heat in Arizona. I went in wearing my rock helmet and Just-Rite headlamp (no longer made), all the way in to the end. Fascinating place, really enjoyed it. Appreciate seeing it again.

    Man, both of those look super cool. We have a lava cave up here in WA, Ape Caves, which looks similar but that Red Mountain doesn't look like anything I've ever seen. Kind of similar to hoodoo structures at Bryce but the soil/rock seems completely different. Thanks for the vid sir.

    I will second the commenter who recommended Red Butte. A good one-two is Red Butte with Cedar Mountain. Cedar Mountain reminded me of Red Mountain, but instead the slot is more broad, and runs alongside the mountain instead of into the mountain. I think these are cinder cone breeches due to faulting.

    • @meandyouagainstthealgorith5787
      @meandyouagainstthealgorith5787 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That’s my old playground. I have been to both places many times. I have spent the night in Lava River Cave at least once, and ate something “psilly” there once. Permits, signs, rangers, what? None of that was there then, and visitation was much lower then. There used to be some spray painted trolls and outhouse doors on the wall near the end. Looking at those trolls on the wall while tripping was a strange experience. There is another lava tube I went to once, I think it was north or northeast of Kendrick Mountain, but I can’t find any info on the internet. From my experience, a Coleman lantern is much better than a flashlight or headlamp in a lava tube. Ape Cave, near Cougar, WA is a lava tube that is 3 miles long, check it out sometime when you come to the PNW.
