Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I'm glad you liked my demonstration of "butter fingers". Its never too late and you're never too old to get back on and ride. There are way more options today then there was 40 yrs ago, especially if you have medical conditions. e.g. comfy baggers & trikes, hand-only controls, Spider bikes etc. Since its been so long, it might be a good idea to take a riding class to refresh & update your skills. No shame in it. I've take one every 10 yrs or so. Good luck!!!
Different bike models/years use different batteries. The model & brand of the battery does not matter. There are many out there. Most catalogs, bike shops & HD dealers will have a way to look up what battery you need for your bike. You do not need to buy an HD battery if you don't want to. Hope that helps.
There is a procedure. My 07 Deluxe you turn the ignition switch to on and then remove the 40 amp maxi fuse. Then you can remove the battery without the alarm going off. To install just reverse the steps. It’s all explained in the owners manual that came with my bike.
I'm not really sure what the question is. If you have extra accessories directly connected to the battery then you should connect them the same way they were on the old battery. Is that what you were asking?
What do I need to be mindful of not to shock myself? You seem to be touching everything and even the terminals without any concern, but I want to make sure I don't do something wrong. Thanks in advance.
Don't touch both terminals at the same time with bear skin and/or something metal. Also don't touch the red terminal and some other piece of bare metal on the bike. Thats about it. If you do get zapped, its really not that bad. The voltage & amperage is fairly low, relative to a wall outlet, so it will feel like a bad bee sting. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd only worry about touching something metal on the bike with the wrench you use to tighten the red terminal bolt down. That would produce a nice spark, with an audible pop sound and can effect the electrical system. Hope that helps & good luck.
Yeah, HDs last a while if you treat them right. Just like any vehicle, IMO. Re neg vs pos, its really a matter of preference. Use whatever method works.
You just forgot to remove the main fuse (!) to disarm the alarm sirene before removing the battery☝️unless you don't do that it will be pretty loud in your garage 😂
Nope. If you disarm the alarm normally with the key fob the battery can be disconnected without any issues, like I show in the video. The alarm doesn't go off when I disconnected it.
Neat vid. I thought I was the only one to ALWAYS drop battery bolts into the abyss. Good to see you again. 🏍👍🏍
Murphy's law bit me in the a$$ twice on this job.
Pet Rock's Garage 😎
Loved the 20 minute & 10 minute part. Best advice ever, Thanks. It’s been 0ver 40 years since Ive ridden.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video!
What about the Alarm?
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.
What about the alarm are you asking about?
Pet Rock - What battery model & brand did you replace with? (asking for spec reasons)

Hey!
What do you do with the alarm when changing the battery? If I remove the cables from the battery the alarm will start...
I have not had that problem. I don't have the security system enabled when I'm working on my bike.

Is there a procedure you have to go through before disconnecting the terminals ie alarm system?
Other than having the alarm turned off? No.
Hey, what if I have some other wires that have to be connected to the battery like a trickle charge?
I'm not really sure what the question is. If you have extra accessories directly connected to the battery then you should connect them the same way they were on the old battery. Is that what you were asking?

My 96 fxstc Softail comes with a strap on the battery
Interesting, I didn't know that was a thing.
My FSTFI doesn't have that top connector making yours a piece of cake to install. Where do I get that?
Do you mean the +/- terminals on the top of the battery? If so, they are part of the battery. Or do you mean something else?
Wow them harleys last a long time . I remove pos. first or sometimes neg. first 😂🤣

what gauge are your cables
I'm not sure. They are the stock cables.
verry helpfull
Glad to be of service.
How do I start the bike after replacing the battery
The same way you did before you replaced the battery.
Got a Die Hard it only came with 90 day warranty and made in Vietnam 😮
90 day seems a little short, but most batteries are made overseas.
1985 has a rubber strap hooked at the bottom. A Real pain to reattach
Oh, I wasn't aware. I bet it is a P.I.T.A.
