My Tav had absorbed only 4 illithids, but at the end [SPOILER] the choice between Orpheous and the Emperor and that someone has to become a mind flayer feel very forced. We don't even have slides about the companions after the plot or Act 1and 2. A great game still, but with a disappointing endgame. Hope they can fix that soon.
We got a semi-good ending where we get to go to avernus with karlach and wyll, and also got a new scene in the epilogue. Looks like this will probably we it for her, which I'm pretty satisfied with.
I finished the House of Hope Quest 2 days ago, and I love that if you romance her. Karlach tells you how stupid it was for you to accept Rapheals deal, but she's willing to enter the one place she hates if it means protecting you. That's how much she loves you. She's willing to go the place of her trauma if it means protecting the one person who makes her shitty life worth living. Bravo Larien, now make a DLC where we can save her or we riot😐
Well, there actually is a controversially good ending when she becomes illithid. She gets to live and to continue travelling with you and the guys. She's pretty happy and thanks you for it.
I'm glad Karlach got her revenge, it always makes me mad when people like Gortash speak of "sacrifice" when they're not the ones doing the sacrificing especially when there not giving the person like Karlach a choice
It's similar to the Wulbren situation. I vividly remember him saying the Gondorians should've sacrificed themselves just to defy Gortash, and because they didn't, they deserve to die like cowards under a motherfucking nuclear weapon. Shit was fucked up beyond belief, and I was genuinely appalled the moment I heard the words come out of his mouth.
Giving her revenge always feels great, it just sucks that it feels so hollow for her and rightfully so, considering we currently don't have the content to save her.

@@ketubann9405 Karlach legitimately just needs an epilogue slide of her and Wyll, (and maybe you if you romanced either) beating up devils and demons in the hells, while kicking back in the house of hope after a hard days work. Arguably the end of the game just genuinely needs some epilogue slides to actually congratulate us(or condemn) for all of our efforts in the game. It would be nice to see the shadowlands, the druid grove, the 7 fucking thousand "undead" in the underdark.

@@Clonetrooper8983 because she was supposed to be able to be saved, flat out. Data miners showed she has a actual "be saved" ending, but its tied in with the upper city part of baldur's gate that got scrapped.... meaning her good outcome is also scrapped, at least for the time being.
It's probably because we are forced to default to her "ignored her quests" ending. The story for minthara, karlach and halsin were cut and will likely be a part of the definitive/goty version that'll come in roughly 1 year. Larian tends to release super good but unfinished games then give a free upgrade to the finished version 1 year later.
Man, they should have added the "Wish" spell, the strongest magic that can be in the hands of mortals and to wish for Karlach to have a real heart again and not an infernal engine.
Seeing as how many of the good endings are so bittersweet: Astarion being cursed to hide in the shadows, Shadowheart either living with the brand or killing her parents, Wyll being a hero but still forced to be a half devil, Lae'zel either abandoning her people or leading a war against a god queen, and finally Karlach being forced to live in Avernus just so she could live. A single wish given in the game to free them of their troubles at the very end of their quests would be so nice and probably even the cherry on top if they were your romance option.
Im 110% certain that the reason we never hit level 20 or even level 18 is because that if we get access to the wish spell we would be able to fix all of the problems in the game
You don't need wish. Resurrection is a level 7 spell, that regenerates missing tissue. Killing her, removing the engine and casting ressurection would revive her with a regular heart. Somewhat gruesome, but absolutely possible. And would you guess what level you need for a 7th level slot? Level 13. Yeah.
@@ologracz1110 Another thought I had, was that Gale has on him at the start of the Game, a scroll of true resurrection. Theoretically he could wait for Karlach to die and use it on her to fix her. Or use it to do what you suggested.

@@Chadius_ThundercockI know this is an old comment just for the record, all of the companions are supposed to have been incredibly adept at what they do, the tadpoles reduce them all to a lower skill level. Gale mentions this in act 1 when you first meet him trapped in the portal, saying he was once a wizard of incredible power and now with the tadpole he can barely control a transport rune
She’s SO CUTE?!?! It should be illegal to be this precious!! I seriously adore her. And I love how she has little silly mannerisms that just endear you to her further, like how she reacts the morning after

Fun fact in act one if you don't kill the goblin camp and you just do her quest and improve her approval enough she'll just come find you while you are long resting and the act 1 romance scene happens. After that once you clear the goblin camp if you talk to her at the party her dialogue is slightly different
its already in the game, just cut for time. Dataminers cracked that a few days ago. Was all connected to the now cut zone of the upper city, so we are currently stuck with only her bad endings.
DLC: Go to infernal as seen. Do what must be done to get Karlach's heart back with no foul, devil twisted fates. Either by complete miracle, or trading places/self sacrifice ... How will you succeed for your special tiefling lover?
I think a somewhat better "Savior Sacrifice" ending would be having your Custom Protagonist giving your own heart, to her. I know they said removing it was impossible and she would be lonely but imagine if your MC found a solution or had a pending deal with a God/Devils so forth. At this point you would be basically taking her place in hell with the infernal engine spending the rest of your life doing the bidding of your now master rarely seeing Karlach once in a blue moon or leave her alone (not accepting a deal or offer) with the infernal engine gone and instead replaced with your heart, yes she will miss you but knowing that she has your heart she's truly not alone. Imagine a cutscene were we see Karlachs reaction to feeling and hearing a heart beat for the first time in 10 years. I think it was a missed opportunity, it almost feels like the Liara treatment in Mass Effect where she's canonically the female lead for the MC, given the attention to her story, cutscenes so on. And the rest are just fillers to give everybody options, but this rant has gone on a bit to long so ill say this, BG3 is a great game just "wish" we had a more clear ending. 9/10 score.
It is, probably, done for science, I hope at least. Like the worst ending in ME2 aka all die and that weird scene with Joker continuing on his own, or deliberately making the worst choices to post on youtube, so, others do not have to.
killing her gives you good loot and exclusive quests. also the position had already been filled by that time. no need for dead weight. of she went. buh bye!! ... also Wyll wanted her dead and i like that guy. it wasn't a hard decision.
Personally I like that Karlach has no perfect ends. The way they were able to write that depressing realization that there's no easy solution to an unjust problem forced upon, similar to how a young person may develop a brain tumor or a athlete may get his legs permanently broken due to a drunk driver, is really well done and creates for some bittersweet endings as you try to help her make the most of it. So if they do add more endings, I do think they should continue that theme. Like, maybe you can get the Gondorions to fix her heart, but it'll only activate if Mizora performs an infernal ritual to do so. Mizora will be willing to do so, but only if you can convince one of Karlach's dearest friends(ie you, Wyll, or the blacksmith lady) to sell their soul to Zariel. You can still counteract and screw Mizora out of the deal by then later turning whoever sold their soul into a mindflayer which effectively destroys it, but either way the only way to fix Karlach's heart would be by sacrificing the soul of another. That would allow the players to give Karlach a more happy ending without invalidating the rest of her endings or the tragedy of her story.
@@trevordavis6830 maybe it's just cause i haven't gotten to that point in the story yet but my understanding was that Karlach was used, abused, and sold off as soon as it benefitted the person she believed to be a friend as a slave essentially. I don't believe that the only resolution of a pained character is more pain. Bittersweet stories need to be perfectly balanced between bitter and sweet. More bitter doesn't equal sweeter moments, eventually to much bitter makes the sweet moments forgetable in the wake of all the tragedy. Karlach was forced into servitutde, forced into a life of strife and war she never asked for, and while she does get offered some resolution to that along the way, being given the choice of damnation and death are not actual options. There comes a point where you're just torturing a character to torture them, and it's a very very fine line to walk. Especially if it makes the character's story seem incomplete.
@@MrKingKrow Considering all the options you get in this game with how to end her story, I don't really see how you can make it any more happy or less painful without removing most if not all the emotional meaning and weight to her story. Hell, the mindflayer ending is already almost a borderline perfect ending for her given that she gets just about everything she wants with the only two downsides being that she's a mindflayer now(which she actually enjoys being) and she can no longer go into any afterlife. The issue with just giving her a perfect happy ending like having her heart be fixable with no downsides is that robs the emotional weight of what Gortash did to her and essentially invalidates all other endings for her. Gortash didn't just abuse Karlach, he robbed her of her future without a second thought and now Karlach's life is forever changed by it no matter how unfair it is. If her heart is just one simple quest away from being fixed then it makes what he did to her feel so much more minor and unimpactful. Its no longer an unspeakable act of lifealtering abuse, its just relatively minor act of villainy that's Karlach can ultimately fix and move on from as if it never happened in the first place. Her big emotional speech after killing Gortash and the resolution in able to find acceptance afterwards loses all emotional weight, arguably to the point of being pointless, due to how you should already be able to fix and forget about her damaged heart by that point. And you say her endings in the game are "accept damnation or death" but that's not at all what they are. There is beauty and happiness to be found them, especially in the Mind Flayer ending. At that point in the game, Karlach thinks she's doomed to die and has found peace in the fact, thus she chooses to selflessly sacrifice herself so that her friends need not lost their humanity. And because of that last act of pure selflessness and bravery on her part, after she's already accepted her death, she is rewarded by having her heart restored. And its a really joyous feeling to see her face light up with joy upon realizing that she can now live the life she's always wanted to. Its a really great and satisfying ending to her arc, but if you give her the ability to fix her heart without any issues then there's no reason to ever see this ending. If you have that option why would you ever not fix her heart and avoid missing all of her best emotional beats and beautiful bittersweet endings? As nice as it is to tell a story where you overcome your abuser and all the suffering they've caused you, and I think its equally as valid if not more so to tell the story that damages of abuse can't always be handwaved away and will stick with you forever but that you can still find ways to adapt and find happiness in spite of those permanent scars.
@@trevordavis6830 Except the problem is that her "perfect ending" is teased constantly throughout the game. Dammon talks about it in act two that he can't fix her heart because he lacks the material. In act 3 you are burried in the material but can't discuss it with Dammon because reasons. The robots talk about how her engine is a defective prototype, and you find the people who made the working model, but can't ask them to fix it because reasons. You have divine intervention, where you ask god to fix a problem for you, but you can't ask god to fix her heart because reasons. As early as act one you can get a scroll of true resurrection, magic than not only brings the dead back like the Scroll of Revivify but also replaces missing limbs and organs such as, for example, a missing heart, but you can't use it like that because reasons. You talk about "beauty and happiness", but its not there. If you played the third act and talked to her or saw the final cutscene with her, she is not at all coping well with the fact she is about to die, and she when she does die she dies screaming and in pain, crying in agony over both the fact she is popping like a gasoline filled water balloon thrown in a fire pit and the fact that she is not at all ready to go yet. Also her mind flayer ending is also depressing. Like, yes, she is technically alive-ish in a round about way, but the mind flayer isn't her. Part of becoming a mind flayer is your soul leaves, and whats left is the tadpole piloting your body with your memories remaining. Even talking to her in that scene she is clearly a very different character from the bubbly, fun loving tiefling who traveled with you throughout almost the entire game by that point. All of this combined is already really sad, but that combined with the fact that every other character gets a good ending but her makes it even more depressing. Not tragic, not bittersweet, just malancholic and sad, and for all the wrong reasons. They already have a story about the "overcoming your abuser" and thats Asterion. Literally his entire character arc is tied to the fact that becoming a vampire screwed with him in everyway imaginable and continues to do so. Or if they wanted to have a character who had to die and was going to regardless they should have removed the Dues Ex Machina scene for Gale and made it so his bomb went off no matter what happened, you just got to decide when. They could have had him tell you about the bomb in act one, have the bit at the begining of act two where Elminster tells him Minstra wants him to set it off, then have Minstra appear at the end of act 2 and be like "Yeah you have to go because any magic that is potentially powerful enough to remove the bomb also runs the risk of setting it off or worse, exposing this weave eating device to the weave at large, risking another spell plague." They could also move some dialogue and say that the crown the Absolute was obsessed with was only uncovered because Gale removed the wards Mystra had in place to keep it hidden when he got the bomb lodged in his place, which would in a round about way make the entire plot of the game his fault. From there, the entire of act 3 should not allow any attempts at removing the bomb. You can talk about it, maybe have one side quest where you bring it up, but Gale should always shut it down and be like "no, it has to be this way." None of the Dialogue with Karlach where she is screaming over Gorachs broken body. None of that "All I see is the Abyss that should have been our future." None of that, just scenes like in act two where Gale invites you to watch the stars with him and he talks about how at peace he is with his death. From there instead of screaming on his way out he could have a nice hum as he walks over to where ever he is gonna die, similar to the scene where Doctor Moridin died in Mass Effect 3. That would be tragic. His death would be unavoidable, but that would be ok, because it actually fits the tone of the game and doesn't constantly tease you with "but what about this glaringly obvious answer we just aren't talking about".

Her bad and meh endings only happened if you failed to do the upper city parts of her quest, but sense the ENTIRE ZONE IS ATM DEAD, she can ONLY have the "you done goofed" crap results. It was never intended to be tragic, its just a result of game dev. One that the definitive edition will prob solve in a year or so.

ou can go with her and wyll to avernus and try and find a cure. wyll will convince her if you convince him to sell his soul to Mizoura again so he could resurrect his father. Mizzoura will ally with you in teh finall battle and I think you can bone her too f you keep her to resurect wyll dad's
It's infernal hellfire, not mortal plane fire. She burns you no matter what your own issues might be, functioning more like a curse than a physical heat.
It’s too bad that the good ending for her was cut when the upper city was cut right before release - gonna have to wait for that definitive edition later next year
i hope by the time they make a definitive edition, that they end up giving her an optional path to replace her engine with one from whoever crafted the steel watchers - it was heavily implied to be possible, considering how one of them initially recognises her as one of them due to her engine
Her endings just seems unfinished, hope we get that in definitive edition too,and better if we get in an update. It's stupid how we can literally(SPOOOOILEEER AHEAD) save Gale with a nuke in his heart and we can't save Karlach with the engine, when the game literally give us the puzzle pieces but doesn't let us put them together
Not sure but 1 DLC with more endings i see It Is hilarious how every character as good or bad ending okkk but you leave the arc incompleted like Astarion or Karlach Shadowheart i think is decent because she work with his religion and Wyll didnt watch but he cant escape the pact
@@glibchubik4090 It's how Larian does things instead of drip-feeding DLC. Also, those 5 years also coincided with the pandemic lockdowns which definitely hurt their productivity and for game development a majority of the time is spent on platform compatibility, reworking, and polish. So relatively minor additions with a focused direction can be developed quickly as 2/3 of those don't apply.
The ending where you betray her makes me want to yell at the screen,while betrayals of the other characters doesn't feel as bad proves she's best girl. Looking forward to her getting that proper ending.
For my romancing Karlach run I did a character whose whole color palette was super blue cause they were a draconic bloodline lightning dragon sorcerer (blue eyes blue hair blue scales blue lipstick blue robes) with a heavy focus on lightning spells so when her flames turned blue it was like my character's rizz was just that powerful
By complete chance your Tav looks exactly like mine in the playthrough I romanced Karlach, which is convenient cause I can just watch this and it’s the same feeling as my actual game

@@glibchubik4090 if I'm not wrong there's a sort of compatibility issue/bug between the different epilogues and some overrides others. Some dude on Reddit re-did the ending from the same save point and got different endings even when choosing the same dialogue options.
Just cause you don't like them doesn't mean they're unfinished. The tragedy is what makes the time you spend together all the more valuable. Stop being a child.

Thanks for that. I wanted to see her romance but since I don't have that much time to play and I wanted to go with Laezel(she grows as a character while Karlach doesn't change much despite being a lovable character). This will sate my curiosity.
Honestly i wish i could chose to become the illithid and die with karlach(so neither would die alone) in a blaze of glory after we saved the world we'd would have went down as the greatest tragedy to tell
God damn... Karlach's voice actress was amazing! The power, the sadness, the empathy, the love was so great. The breakdown she had after killing Gortash... you could hear such pain and sorrow in her voice.

I have absolutely know nothing of the baldur's gate universe.. I just downloaded the first two games on my Xbox because I heard nothing but great reviews and I was have to admit that even the first game is that it's pretty intimidating because of so much of detail literally to everything and I love games where you can make your own protagonist but I've never seen a franchise where it's very heavily detailed which is great but also intimidating for me.... Now one of my favorite games is Mass effect and Tali Zorah it's not just my favorite video game character but my favorite romance option because her romance with Commander Shepard is really beautiful and you can tell how much you really loves Commander Shepherd and even with her Wayne that suit and helmet that you can tell that she is one of the most beautiful human beings and video game history....... I just stumbled to the romance option with his character Karlach.. a woman that literally looks that she's from hell itself with the horns and the tail that you can see she has such a huge heart full of good and she is so sweet and I get the same vibes with her like I do with Tali Zorah for Mass effect.... She's a type of video game character where you make love not sex for which is very rare and beautiful in itself
In my eyes, this isn’t the best ending for her, but it is a good one. She didn’t die a slave to Zariel, or become a Mind Flayer. She went out a hero, side by side with the people she cared for and the one she loved. The best ending for her would have been her living… But what she did get was in a way, a good ending.
I don’t think any game I’ve ever played has emotionally hit me quite like the ending where karlach dies if you romance her. The conversation with withers in the epilogue is just so heartbreaking too I literally never cried so damn much playing a fuckin game. This game is just beyond any other.

Larian, I sincerely ask for the good ending DLC that has her living in a quiet town with a good partner and a few kids. As of this moment, I have not purchased this game, don't mind spoilers, but if there is no good ending it simply won't be worth my time. We don't want a repeat of Lohse leaving in the end despite saying she would stay and 'destroying' her demon supposedly...
I've not been able to play Baldersgate 3 from the lack of platform to play it. My understanding is Karlach's just a sweetheart. She's fierce yes, but she has a kindness, gentleness in her heart she's not been given the opportunity to explore. She is passion incarnate. A raging inferno to incinerate her enemies, or a well lit hearth to bring light, comfort, and warmth to those she cares about. Karlach is currently my favourite.
How is that possible that first romance with Karlach I still hear voices in the background from tiefling party? I want those voices to be quiet be also to hear birds singing and campfire. Does anybody know how to fix this?
The only option of truly saving her (and the best good-aligned ending imho) is letting Karlach become the illithid, thus turning the engine off (that way you can also save yourself and Orpheus). She gets to stay, as a monster, yet she's quite happy and has a chance to live in the material plane and to travel with her beloved party of heroes (Gith will also treasure her and call Karlach their Liberator). p.s. Balduran has no place in the good-aligned ending, tbh. He's a scheming scumbag who turns his back on you if you don't kill Orpheus.
The Emperor is what Karlach will become, given time. becoming Illithid destroys your mortal soul, and changes the way you think. illithid Karlach is a space monster that ate her memories. it will forget eventually.
Can we romace her playing as a Zariel tiefling character? I'm asking it because we can see she has some history with zariel's. Which aren't good by any means. So if our character is a tiefling of zariel.. Can it affect our relationship with her? If someone knows please enlighten me.
I freaking love this buff muscle lady. I love her story, I love her personality, I love literally everything about her...and thank the gods Larien gave her a good ending where we both go to Avernus and she lives. I rather live in hell for her, then see her die for me.
I hope we get a dlc where if you end up going to avernus with her in the end it follows up on it with it eventually ending up with discovery a cure or a way to remove her engine heart for a real heart so she doesn't have to blowup in baldurs gate

I still dont see why the Emperor couldnt have liberated Orpheus, have Orpheus manage his power to do what he'd do to you or Karlach as an ilithid, and go from there. Surely the fate of all sentient life is enough to at least hit pause on whatever animosity he may have for Emp keeping him locked up for so long. Some might say that would have been too clean but its one of the most logical options that could have been.
First, remember it wasn’t the emperor but vlaakith who imprisoned him, the emperor just utilized his prison. Second, the emperor had been fighting the githyanki guards for awhile, he clearly had a lot of animosity towards them, he was biased and didn’t trust that Orpheus, a man who was known to have a rage as fearsome as a comet, could be rational. Ultimately the emperor is playing the calculus of war, choosing the pragmatic options that will give him the best chance of success and survival, perhaps at one time before his transformation he believed more in the ability of individuals to adapt, but by the end he viewed the world far to clinically. Who knows, maybe Orpheus only works with you because you turn your bsck on the mindflayer, perhaps he does attack you out of hatred for ghaik and the emperor’s hand in his guard’s death; you kill him in self defense and the brain wins. Had the emperor been more human he might have tried this outcome, but perhaps he was just to far gone

Good news! They are working on a new epilogue for Karlach. Was described as an ending she deserved.
We got a semi-good ending where we get to go to avernus with karlach and wyll, and also got a new scene in the epilogue. Looks like this will probably we it for her, which I'm pretty satisfied with.
At least she has friends now that won't betray her in Avernus. This end is much more satisfying than seeing her burn.
Still wish she could be fixed.
I finished the House of Hope Quest 2 days ago, and I love that if you romance her. Karlach tells you how stupid it was for you to accept Rapheals deal, but she's willing to enter the one place she hates if it means protecting you. That's how much she loves you. She's willing to go the place of her trauma if it means protecting the one person who makes her shitty life worth living.
Bravo Larien, now make a DLC where we can save her or we riot😐

Well, there actually is a controversially good ending when she becomes illithid. She gets to live and to continue travelling with you and the guys. She's pretty happy and thanks you for it.
I'm glad Karlach got her revenge, it always makes me mad when people like Gortash speak of "sacrifice" when they're not the ones doing the sacrificing especially when there not giving the person like Karlach a choice
It's similar to the Wulbren situation. I vividly remember him saying the Gondorians should've sacrificed themselves just to defy Gortash, and because they didn't, they deserve to die like cowards under a motherfucking nuclear weapon. Shit was fucked up beyond belief, and I was genuinely appalled the moment I heard the words come out of his mouth.
Giving her revenge always feels great, it just sucks that it feels so hollow for her and rightfully so, considering we currently don't have the content to save her.

Arguably the end of the game just genuinely needs some epilogue slides to actually congratulate us(or condemn) for all of our efforts in the game. It would be nice to see the shadowlands, the druid grove, the 7 fucking thousand "undead" in the underdark.

@@Clonetrooper8983 because she was supposed to be able to be saved, flat out. Data miners showed she has a actual "be saved" ending, but its tied in with the upper city part of baldur's gate that got scrapped.... meaning her good outcome is also scrapped, at least for the time being.

It's probably because we are forced to default to her "ignored her quests" ending. The story for minthara, karlach and halsin were cut and will likely be a part of the definitive/goty version that'll come in roughly 1 year. Larian tends to release super good but unfinished games then give a free upgrade to the finished version 1 year later.

Man, they should have added the "Wish" spell, the strongest magic that can be in the hands of mortals and to wish for Karlach to have a real heart again and not an infernal engine.

Seeing as how many of the good endings are so bittersweet: Astarion being cursed to hide in the shadows, Shadowheart either living with the brand or killing her parents, Wyll being a hero but still forced to be a half devil, Lae'zel either abandoning her people or leading a war against a god queen, and finally Karlach being forced to live in Avernus just so she could live.
A single wish given in the game to free them of their troubles at the very end of their quests would be so nice and probably even the cherry on top if they were your romance option.
Im 110% certain that the reason we never hit level 20 or even level 18 is because that if we get access to the wish spell we would be able to fix all of the problems in the game
You don't need wish. Resurrection is a level 7 spell, that regenerates missing tissue. Killing her, removing the engine and casting ressurection would revive her with a regular heart. Somewhat gruesome, but absolutely possible.
And would you guess what level you need for a 7th level slot?

@@ologracz1110 Another thought I had, was that Gale has on him at the start of the Game, a scroll of true resurrection. Theoretically he could wait for Karlach to die and use it on her to fix her. Or use it to do what you suggested.

Gale mentions this in act 1 when you first meet him trapped in the portal, saying he was once a wizard of incredible power and now with the tadpole he can barely control a transport rune

Fun fact in act one if you don't kill the goblin camp and you just do her quest and improve her approval enough she'll just come find you while you are long resting and the act 1 romance scene happens. After that once you clear the goblin camp if you talk to her at the party her dialogue is slightly different

I think a somewhat better "Savior Sacrifice" ending would be having your Custom Protagonist giving your own heart, to her. I know they said removing it was impossible and she would be lonely but imagine if your MC found a solution or had a pending deal with a God/Devils so forth. At this point you would be basically taking her place in hell with the infernal engine spending the rest of your life doing the bidding of your now master rarely seeing Karlach once in a blue moon or leave her alone (not accepting a deal or offer) with the infernal engine gone and instead replaced with your heart, yes she will miss you but knowing that she has your heart she's truly not alone. Imagine a cutscene were we see Karlachs reaction to feeling and hearing a heart beat for the first time in 10 years.
I think it was a missed opportunity, it almost feels like the Liara treatment in Mass Effect where she's canonically the female lead for the MC, given the attention to her story, cutscenes so on. And the rest are just fillers to give everybody options, but this rant has gone on a bit to long so ill say this, BG3 is a great game just "wish" we had a more clear ending. 9/10 score.

killing her gives you good loot and exclusive quests. also the position had already been filled by that time. no need for dead weight. of she went. buh bye!! ... also Wyll wanted her dead and i like that guy. it wasn't a hard decision.
i really hope they make new options in the game at some point. i'd love it if Astarian and Karlach got better ends.
Personally I like that Karlach has no perfect ends. The way they were able to write that depressing realization that there's no easy solution to an unjust problem forced upon, similar to how a young person may develop a brain tumor or a athlete may get his legs permanently broken due to a drunk driver, is really well done and creates for some bittersweet endings as you try to help her make the most of it. So if they do add more endings, I do think they should continue that theme.
Like, maybe you can get the Gondorions to fix her heart, but it'll only activate if Mizora performs an infernal ritual to do so. Mizora will be willing to do so, but only if you can convince one of Karlach's dearest friends(ie you, Wyll, or the blacksmith lady) to sell their soul to Zariel. You can still counteract and screw Mizora out of the deal by then later turning whoever sold their soul into a mindflayer which effectively destroys it, but either way the only way to fix Karlach's heart would be by sacrificing the soul of another. That would allow the players to give Karlach a more happy ending without invalidating the rest of her endings or the tragedy of her story.
@@trevordavis6830 maybe it's just cause i haven't gotten to that point in the story yet but my understanding was that Karlach was used, abused, and sold off as soon as it benefitted the person she believed to be a friend as a slave essentially. I don't believe that the only resolution of a pained character is more pain. Bittersweet stories need to be perfectly balanced between bitter and sweet. More bitter doesn't equal sweeter moments, eventually to much bitter makes the sweet moments forgetable in the wake of all the tragedy. Karlach was forced into servitutde, forced into a life of strife and war she never asked for, and while she does get offered some resolution to that along the way, being given the choice of damnation and death are not actual options. There comes a point where you're just torturing a character to torture them, and it's a very very fine line to walk. Especially if it makes the character's story seem incomplete.
@@MrKingKrow Considering all the options you get in this game with how to end her story, I don't really see how you can make it any more happy or less painful without removing most if not all the emotional meaning and weight to her story. Hell, the mindflayer ending is already almost a borderline perfect ending for her given that she gets just about everything she wants with the only two downsides being that she's a mindflayer now(which she actually enjoys being) and she can no longer go into any afterlife.
The issue with just giving her a perfect happy ending like having her heart be fixable with no downsides is that robs the emotional weight of what Gortash did to her and essentially invalidates all other endings for her. Gortash didn't just abuse Karlach, he robbed her of her future without a second thought and now Karlach's life is forever changed by it no matter how unfair it is.
If her heart is just one simple quest away from being fixed then it makes what he did to her feel so much more minor and unimpactful. Its no longer an unspeakable act of lifealtering abuse, its just relatively minor act of villainy that's Karlach can ultimately fix and move on from as if it never happened in the first place. Her big emotional speech after killing Gortash and the resolution in able to find acceptance afterwards loses all emotional weight, arguably to the point of being pointless, due to how you should already be able to fix and forget about her damaged heart by that point.
And you say her endings in the game are "accept damnation or death" but that's not at all what they are. There is beauty and happiness to be found them, especially in the Mind Flayer ending. At that point in the game, Karlach thinks she's doomed to die and has found peace in the fact, thus she chooses to selflessly sacrifice herself so that her friends need not lost their humanity. And because of that last act of pure selflessness and bravery on her part, after she's already accepted her death, she is rewarded by having her heart restored. And its a really joyous feeling to see her face light up with joy upon realizing that she can now live the life she's always wanted to.
Its a really great and satisfying ending to her arc, but if you give her the ability to fix her heart without any issues then there's no reason to ever see this ending. If you have that option why would you ever not fix her heart and avoid missing all of her best emotional beats and beautiful bittersweet endings?
As nice as it is to tell a story where you overcome your abuser and all the suffering they've caused you, and I think its equally as valid if not more so to tell the story that damages of abuse can't always be handwaved away and will stick with you forever but that you can still find ways to adapt and find happiness in spite of those permanent scars.
@@trevordavis6830 Except the problem is that her "perfect ending" is teased constantly throughout the game. Dammon talks about it in act two that he can't fix her heart because he lacks the material. In act 3 you are burried in the material but can't discuss it with Dammon because reasons. The robots talk about how her engine is a defective prototype, and you find the people who made the working model, but can't ask them to fix it because reasons. You have divine intervention, where you ask god to fix a problem for you, but you can't ask god to fix her heart because reasons. As early as act one you can get a scroll of true resurrection, magic than not only brings the dead back like the Scroll of Revivify but also replaces missing limbs and organs such as, for example, a missing heart, but you can't use it like that because reasons.
You talk about "beauty and happiness", but its not there. If you played the third act and talked to her or saw the final cutscene with her, she is not at all coping well with the fact she is about to die, and she when she does die she dies screaming and in pain, crying in agony over both the fact she is popping like a gasoline filled water balloon thrown in a fire pit and the fact that she is not at all ready to go yet. Also her mind flayer ending is also depressing. Like, yes, she is technically alive-ish in a round about way, but the mind flayer isn't her. Part of becoming a mind flayer is your soul leaves, and whats left is the tadpole piloting your body with your memories remaining. Even talking to her in that scene she is clearly a very different character from the bubbly, fun loving tiefling who traveled with you throughout almost the entire game by that point. All of this combined is already really sad, but that combined with the fact that every other character gets a good ending but her makes it even more depressing. Not tragic, not bittersweet, just malancholic and sad, and for all the wrong reasons.
They already have a story about the "overcoming your abuser" and thats Asterion. Literally his entire character arc is tied to the fact that becoming a vampire screwed with him in everyway imaginable and continues to do so. Or if they wanted to have a character who had to die and was going to regardless they should have removed the Dues Ex Machina scene for Gale and made it so his bomb went off no matter what happened, you just got to decide when. They could have had him tell you about the bomb in act one, have the bit at the begining of act two where Elminster tells him Minstra wants him to set it off, then have Minstra appear at the end of act 2 and be like "Yeah you have to go because any magic that is potentially powerful enough to remove the bomb also runs the risk of setting it off or worse, exposing this weave eating device to the weave at large, risking another spell plague." They could also move some dialogue and say that the crown the Absolute was obsessed with was only uncovered because Gale removed the wards Mystra had in place to keep it hidden when he got the bomb lodged in his place, which would in a round about way make the entire plot of the game his fault. From there, the entire of act 3 should not allow any attempts at removing the bomb. You can talk about it, maybe have one side quest where you bring it up, but Gale should always shut it down and be like "no, it has to be this way." None of the Dialogue with Karlach where she is screaming over Gorachs broken body. None of that "All I see is the Abyss that should have been our future." None of that, just scenes like in act two where Gale invites you to watch the stars with him and he talks about how at peace he is with his death. From there instead of screaming on his way out he could have a nice hum as he walks over to where ever he is gonna die, similar to the scene where Doctor Moridin died in Mass Effect 3. That would be tragic. His death would be unavoidable, but that would be ok, because it actually fits the tone of the game and doesn't constantly tease you with "but what about this glaringly obvious answer we just aren't talking about".

Data mining showed a few days ago that her actual intended good ending was tied to the upper city part of act three... the part that isnt in the game due to being cut for time.
Her bad and meh endings only happened if you failed to do the upper city parts of her quest, but sense the ENTIRE ZONE IS ATM DEAD, she can ONLY have the "you done goofed" crap results.
It was never intended to be tragic, its just a result of game dev. One that the definitive edition will prob solve in a year or so.

@@glibchubik4090 It's how Larian does things instead of drip-feeding DLC. Also, those 5 years also coincided with the pandemic lockdowns which definitely hurt their productivity and for game development a majority of the time is spent on platform compatibility, reworking, and polish. So relatively minor additions with a focused direction can be developed quickly as 2/3 of those don't apply.
The ending where you betray her makes me want to yell at the screen,while betrayals of the other characters doesn't feel as bad proves she's best girl. Looking forward to her getting that proper ending.
For my romancing Karlach run I did a character whose whole color palette was super blue cause they were a draconic bloodline lightning dragon sorcerer (blue eyes blue hair blue scales blue lipstick blue robes) with a heavy focus on lightning spells so when her flames turned blue it was like my character's rizz was just that powerful

@@glibchubik4090 if I'm not wrong there's a sort of compatibility issue/bug between the different epilogues and some overrides others. Some dude on Reddit re-did the ending from the same save point and got different endings even when choosing the same dialogue options.
Just cause you don't like them doesn't mean they're unfinished. The tragedy is what makes the time you spend together all the more valuable. Stop being a child.
Suggestion for Larian, put in the epilogue a single wish, for a run on Honour difficulty. Jergal grants it as a boon.

I just downloaded the first two games on my Xbox because I heard nothing but great reviews and I was have to admit that even the first game is that it's pretty intimidating because of so much of detail literally to everything and I love games where you can make your own protagonist but I've never seen a franchise where it's very heavily detailed which is great but also intimidating for me.... Now one of my favorite games is Mass effect and Tali Zorah it's not just my favorite video game character but my favorite romance option because her romance with Commander Shepard is really beautiful and you can tell how much you really loves Commander Shepherd and even with her Wayne that suit and helmet that you can tell that she is one of the most beautiful human beings and video game history....... I just stumbled to the romance option with his character Karlach.. a woman that literally looks that she's from hell itself with the horns and the tail that you can see she has such a huge heart full of good and she is so sweet and I get the same vibes with her like I do with Tali Zorah for Mass effect.... She's a type of video game character where you make love not sex for which is very rare and beautiful in itself
Im romancing her on my first play through and i missed the date scene because i didn't know you have to long rest after meeting her old friend 😭

In my eyes, this isn’t the best ending for her, but it is a good one. She didn’t die a slave to Zariel, or become a Mind Flayer. She went out a hero, side by side with the people she cared for and the one she loved. The best ending for her would have been her living… But what she did get was in a way, a good ending.

I don’t think any game I’ve ever played has emotionally hit me quite like the ending where karlach dies if you romance her. The conversation with withers in the epilogue is just so heartbreaking too I literally never cried so damn much playing a fuckin game. This game is just beyond any other.

Larian, I sincerely ask for the good ending DLC that has her living in a quiet town with a good partner and a few kids.
As of this moment, I have not purchased this game, don't mind spoilers, but if there is no good ending it simply won't be worth my time.
We don't want a repeat of Lohse leaving in the end despite saying she would stay and 'destroying' her demon supposedly...
I've not been able to play Baldersgate 3 from the lack of platform to play it.
My understanding is Karlach's just a sweetheart. She's fierce yes, but she has a kindness, gentleness in her heart she's not been given the opportunity to explore. She is passion incarnate. A raging inferno to incinerate her enemies, or a well lit hearth to bring light, comfort, and warmth to those she cares about.
Karlach is currently my favourite.

You are missing one ending. Wyll can became a Sword of Avernus and take Karlach back to Avernus without the players character.

The only option of truly saving her (and the best good-aligned ending imho) is letting Karlach become the illithid, thus turning the engine off (that way you can also save yourself and Orpheus). She gets to stay, as a monster, yet she's quite happy and has a chance to live in the material plane and to travel with her beloved party of heroes (Gith will also treasure her and call Karlach their Liberator).
p.s. Balduran has no place in the good-aligned ending, tbh. He's a scheming scumbag who turns his back on you if you don't kill Orpheus.
The Emperor is what Karlach will become, given time. becoming Illithid destroys your mortal soul, and changes the way you think.

I killed her not wanting to be evil in my playthrough just for me to break my oath 20 seconds later as a paladin.
I still dont see why the Emperor couldnt have liberated Orpheus, have Orpheus manage his power to do what he'd do to you or Karlach as an ilithid, and go from there. Surely the fate of all sentient life is enough to at least hit pause on whatever animosity he may have for Emp keeping him locked up for so long. Some might say that would have been too clean but its one of the most logical options that could have been.
First, remember it wasn’t the emperor but vlaakith who imprisoned him, the emperor just utilized his prison. Second, the emperor had been fighting the githyanki guards for awhile, he clearly had a lot of animosity towards them, he was biased and didn’t trust that Orpheus, a man who was known to have a rage as fearsome as a comet, could be rational. Ultimately the emperor is playing the calculus of war, choosing the pragmatic options that will give him the best chance of success and survival, perhaps at one time before his transformation he believed more in the ability of individuals to adapt, but by the end he viewed the world far to clinically. Who knows, maybe Orpheus only works with you because you turn your bsck on the mindflayer, perhaps he does attack you out of hatred for ghaik and the emperor’s hand in his guard’s death; you kill him in self defense and the brain wins. Had the emperor been more human he might have tried this outcome, but perhaps he was just to far gone
