I think the scorpenek's lack of anti infantry makes a whole lot more sense when you remember the droidekka is also made by the colicoids. And as you said, the scorpenek is actually fully independant, while the droidekka is hive mind. What I see is a squad of droidekka, linked and under the command of a single scorpenek. While the scorpenek takes on the heavy targets, and soaks up most of the damage, the droidekka drones flank around rapidly, taking care of the infantry. Both perfectly counter the other's vunerabilities.
I think the question should be, "Why was it so hard for the droid to hit a target or do damage?". A farcical end to the series. More like the shootout scene around the dustbins from Police Squad.
The worst part these big brother of Droidekas are more Anti vehicle not Anti Infantry. Having a Droideka paired with Scorpenek would be harder (remember Droidekas already difficult to deal with to begin with)
@@thoughtgaming492 they removed targeting system, so that writers didn't have to figure out an interesting and realistic way of how to destroy a thing that was capable of eliminating the whole company of clones (with armor and stuff), and not making this episode R-rated.
For those commenting on the inaccuracy of the firing systems, I would remind you that this is around thirty years after the Clone Wars, and Palpatine basically wiped out Battle Droid manufacturing within his first few years of rule. In effect, it's lucky that these things are still operational at all, as parts would have to be scuttled from other Scorpenek droids, or possibly even replace with subpar parts from other droids.
I mean still that means it's sensors and computer is less advanced then stuff we have had since the 70s to calculate ballistics, see as it doesn't have to correct for environmental effects or bullet drop.
The droids were dreadful, they must have been acquired with faulty laser cannons too as they couldn't even penetrate regular walls of Tatooine houses with sustained fire...
A lot of the shots where it’s focused on Mando or Boba’s visors have really good reflection cgi for blaster bolts and things like that. I love the little details

If you rewatch you’ll notice how the side opposite to Krrsantan was red until it gave him a good whack, then it evened out again.
A small detail I noticed in the show was that the droid lacks any sort of targeting systems. It open fired into a crowd of people running 5 feet away from it in an open street with no cover and managed to miss every single person miraculously. I think that the lack of targeting systems was a huge oversight by the creators of the droid.
I was hyped when I first saw the tell tale shape of the Scorpenek in the episode. Yet it didn't seem to kill anyone and had trouble with blasting through a stone wall. Really underwhelming for an otherwise action packed episode. They had formidable defenses but in hindsight were not much of a threat. : (
@@yoloman3607 I think the dark troopers are a different story as Mando and Luke were the only people to really fight them iirc. These things seemed absolutely pathetic, even clankers seem to be a better option. Couldn't hit anyone even when a group of people were slowly jogging away out in the open. It wasn't even powerful enough to destroy a small clay wall. It would have been nice to have them be an actual threat.

They're siege droids. Not designed for urban combat. Although, I admit - I expected them to actually kill some people. I'm not sure they actually killed anyone, the only casualties that appeared after they showed up were caused by the Pyke escort.
@@pll3827 I'd say they're more equivalent to the Collicoid's interpretation of a main battle tank. Tanks can absolutely be used to siege forts and knock down walls, but their primary job is to destroy armored vehicles.
Going from seeing this thing in the AotC concept art book as a kid and thinking this design was cool and wanting it on screen, to over 10 years later seeing it on screen in a live action show. This made me even more excited than the cameos we got.
Seeing these dudes was my favorite part of the episode last night, I have to hand it to the droid army, arc troopers are cool and badass but the CIS had droids am that could wipe the floor with them, hope we see more unique CIS droids in Mando or the bad batch( personally I’m a big fan of the B 3 Ultra battle droid, cuz it’s a bigger version of the B2.)
I freaked out so hard as soon as I saw the thermal profile through the walls. I can’t even tell you how many times I re read that page in the guide to droids as a kid and just pictured controlling such a beast of a machine.
Knowing that an entire planet in its wartime economic prime could only afford to field a little over 100 of these things and that they could demolish platoons of highly trained clones… makes you wonder how the pikes got two of them, and then they were destroyed by one older clone and his pet.
One gripe I had with the scorpenek droid that it was unable to destroy a wall (occupied by the enemy) that seems to be made out of sandstone or something similar to that
Yeah, they really need to work on what exactly blaster fire can do. I mean, you had Mando's original sniper rifle that vaporized its targets but then Krrsantan's gun which looked like a blaster shotgun just seemed to do the same damage to living targets as any other blaster instead of like shooting right through them (or just vaporizing again). And then the bigger guns seem to do less damage than an RPG
my first thought was the Sith War Droids from the old Republic. Also it strikes me as really odd that the Pikes would divert such a expensive piece of hardware let alone 2 to such a backwater world like Tatooine.
I think the droid was more so meant to instill terror, shatter the battle lines and allow the pyke infantry to mop up the fleeing combatants.. Small infantry targets might have affected the accuracy of a machine meant for vehicular combat. I also believe the scorpenek was fitted with anti-personnel armaments by the pykes as to not cause to much structural damage to the city which made the droid even more useless.
If only the seperatists ie griveous and dooku produced and invested onto these annihilators commando droids and supertactical droids their empire would be absolutely invincible!
Plus they couldn't hit anything. They were firing a crowd of people running down a long narrow street in straight line (practically fish in a barrel) and they still couldn't hit them.
Let's face the facts. The only reason everyone in Boba Fett's group survived was because they were protected by plot armor. Otherwise these Scorpenek Annihilator Droids would've desimated that group of farmers and street punks and whatnot. LoL!😅🤣
Could've fixed it by having them run out the back of the building or take a side street and then take cover below a ground line instead of a thin wall that the droid could just walk through.

They are droids with literal targeting computers built into them by the Colicoids who spared no expense when it came to droid manufacturing. If it wasn't for plot convenience im sure our beloved Boba and his gang would've been dead before the rancor could've shown its face. This video was awesome. I was explaining to my friend that the finale had a lot of Attack Of the Clones vibes. I kept on thinking about how in the clone wars Ahsoka and Anakin helped Saul Guerra and his group fight against droidekas using emp grenades…. Lots of fan service in the finale , many from the prequels.
Yup, have always liked this mech. I get the feeling though that Doug did two iterations and then George asked him do add those belts to make it look 'cool', like it has chain guns... with mini-guns and gatlings being very popular in action films at the time. IF the plasma generator was compact enough to fit behind the 'eye' in the central body, then it would be small enough to have a plasma generator fitted directly to the back of each weapons pod - meaning you've got to destroy both pods to disable the droids weapons fully, instead of having one central 'Achilles heel'. Although, almost all 'evil' Star Wars technology seems to have an inbuilt Achilles heel as standard. When I think about shielded droids though, I'm sure the shield doesn't penetrate the surface they are 'standing' on, such as the ground... Delayed fuse shells - for destroying bunkers have been around for 75yrs. You could fire one into the sand / earth, just in front of the shield, it would penetrate the ground continue travelling underground toward the droid, and detonate [after a set interval] beneath the surface and inside the shield area, disabling or destroying it.

the inability to turn its head would/should have lead to an immediate redesign if it was ever actually built and fielded. this is the WW1 tank of destroyer droids.
I just wanted to say thanks for keeping this video spoiler friendly. I have been more than a little upset with a lot of the StarWars content creators lately for posting spoilers before the episode is even available in my country. So thanks for respecting that.
I'm kind of proud to see so many people in the comments pointing out how stupidly Book of Boba Fett used these. Ask for better media, don't just accept the swill that Disney pours out these days.
Loved the fight between these and the Rancor. Something about the movement and integration into the setting looked to me like the best of stop-motion animation, even though I assume it's computer graphics.
I listened to the sounds the blaster cannons of the Scorpenek, and I remembered hearing those cannons before. The untrained ear may think it's just the Droideka's shots pitched down, but I believe they're the exact same sound as the AAT's blaster cannons. No, I'm not talking about the main turret, I'm talking about the cannons mounted on the sides. Specifically, from the video game Star Wars Battlefront.
as soon as these droids presented themselves I immediately got the impression these were mobile anti-aircraft battery. the quad mounted and large caliber cannons look like they would be ideal for defending a placement from aerial attack.
As soon as the first one turned the corner I was thinking Boba would take it out with his jetpack rocket. Several seconds pass and that doesn't happen, then its shields come on and I yell at the TV for somebody to do... something! It was a very cool addition for live-action SW, but had anybody reacted like they should've, one of them could've been at least severely damaged before it became practically impenetrable.
Another big Dark Empire parallel (and possible reference?) is how the heavily shielded Viper droids end up going down to physical attacks from very Rancor-like chrysalis beasts
Personally, I thought the droids were a disappointment; they look cool, but I'm fairly sure they were destroyed without killing anyone. The only serious damage they inflicted wasn't even with their cannons; it was their legs! As for being vehicle killers, they couldn't even shoot through the sandstone blocks the good guys were hiding behind, and they were so slow that Boba and the Mandalorian spent good chunks of the episode just dancing around them.
The whole gang even went to the Prometheus school of running, straight away down an open street. Yet, they weren't hit once even by splash. What is the point of the huge feeding belts to huge blaster cannons and they can't shoot farther than 20ft?
@@yoloman3607 they then decided to "dig in", presumably because they had a fair chance of outrunning the things. I'd have said it was stupid to try and hold against an enemy you have no chance of hitting... except it worked. Thank the force for sandstorm. I can understand the rational that the droids were old, probably bought from Wattos descendants, and therefore far from their prime, but a lack of threat doesn't make compelling television.
@@Tarotb It doesn't seem like the pikes are too poor for proper maintenance. They have complex floating trains run by droids and can hire Cad Bane with their spice money. Presumably they bribed the local gangs as well. The shields and movement systems were in perfect condition, so I can assume their main cannons were more than marginally functional.

And... WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS! LoL!😂

Something i have always and will always appreciate about Eck is how he always cites his sources unlike 99% of other star wars youtubers
It was cool to see this really obscure legends droid. Kind of a reach to dream but, I hope one day they bring back the B3 Ultra Battle Droid. That was always a favorite of mine, and it could work as some crazy enforcer for a group of pirates or another syndicate.
"The eye was based on a sensory organ." Was the organ, perhaps, an eye?
No…. It couldn’t possibly be…
Technically, the butt hole is a sensory organ.
Technically, it would be an optic.
I know it’s still an eye, but that terms is often used in sci fi media describe the eye of a robot.
They really could have done with some of these when the Yuuzhan Vong arrived...
The Vong losing their shit against droids is one of the best things in Legends.
I’m actually just starting to go through the entire vong series. This would have brought me great joy
@Ops Blac that's only because of plot armor
Yer in for a treat when the yvh droids show up

And if you think foxy...they could use this and fight against Darth Maul together in the end
Droideka's boyfriend: Oh don't worry about that guy.
The guy he told him not to worry about: Scorpenek
This is Droideka's big brother, not "friend" ;-)

Yeah but sadly they removed the targeting system to make room for bigger guns.
@@thoughtgaming492 they removed targeting system, so that writers didn't have to figure out an interesting and realistic way of how to destroy a thing that was capable of eliminating the whole company of clones (with armor and stuff), and not making this episode R-rated.
Check out the Bio Cannon from GB.
I will admit, as soon as I saw those things on Mando's thermal scanner, I knew exactly what it was, and was like 'welp, this will be cool'.
I mean still that means it's sensors and computer is less advanced then stuff we have had since the 70s to calculate ballistics, see as it doesn't have to correct for environmental effects or bullet drop.
it wasn't meant to be a precision weapon, it's a "fill the air with as much firepower as possible" weapon
and a good show would put that explanation in the show
The droids were dreadful, they must have been acquired with faulty laser cannons too as they couldn't even penetrate regular walls of Tatooine houses with sustained fire...
@@Negativvv Hence my argument for Disrepair baing the answer as to why their performance was poor.
When I saw the outline in the visor my first reaction was "God damn it Filoni you're too good to us."
Suffice to say I was very happy to see it.
A lot of the shots where it’s focused on Mando or Boba’s visors have really good reflection cgi for blaster bolts and things like that. I love the little details

@@TmanTheTdog did you not notice that the shield went from blue to red because of his shots? Red means it's weakened, which allowed him to go through with his hand.
@@PetersaberHD After rewatching the clip, it looks like the Scorponek adjusted it’s shields towards Krrsantan to compensate for the heavy blaster and him trying to bust through, similar to what the other one did vs the Rancor which causes the side opposite to weaken (how mando got through the other one’s shields).
I think that the lack of targeting systems was a huge oversight by the creators of the droid.
or a way to cut the price for the pyke syndicate
There is one, but due to a bug in the OS it only aim at where the target isn't at.
Lack of 5G on the planet prevented over the air update.
Well, it's hard for them, when they have to walk.
It ended up just like the dark troopers, tough as hell and some of the most menacing thing in Star Wars but managed to kill exactly 0 people.
@@yoloman3607 I think the dark troopers are a different story as Mando and Luke were the only people to really fight them iirc. Mando barely survived against a single one and he was fully kitted out in all his armour and weapons, and Luke is Luke, which explains why he tore through them. I do expect to see more of them and for them to wreck havok. Whereas with the scorpenek droids, they were up against farmers and engineers and couldn't hit anything or do any damage, they were pathetic and did less than a normal B2 would've
@@Jay-fs2nw I would say the script is remarkably similar despite totally different setting, scenes, etc. Menacing droid appearance scene, intimidation scene, unstoppable march scene, characters hiding behind a barrier, then super strong character mops floor appearing from offscreen. Yes the actual fights were a little different, but the style is the same and so is the outcome.
These things seemed absolutely pathetic, even clankers seem to be a better option. Couldn't hit anyone even when a group of people were slowly jogging away out in the open. It wasn't even powerful enough to destroy a small clay wall. It would have been nice to have them be an actual threat.
What did you wan't to see: dismembered bodies, shell-shocked people, buildings turning into deadly shrapnel?
-This is a kid's show with no real stakes, the sole purpose of which is to sell baby yoda toys.
@@solarissv777 yes, if they made an R rated star wars series like that it would do insanely well. But no, I just wanted the Droid to actually shoot and kill some people. Obiously they aren't going to do dismemberment but people getting thrown around from the blasts and dying would be much better then what we got.
Want some cheese with that whine?
Imagine if the Scorpenek could roll up into a ball just like its younger brother
Then it could've just simply run over the those groups of farmers and city slickers in the show! LMAO!😅🤣

How about explaining why it cant hit the broadside of a barn?
I saw them and went "oh great, Colicoid battle droids"
I love the design of these scorpenek annihilator droids! The Season finale was awesome!
I freaked out so hard as soon as I saw the thermal profile through the walls. I can’t even tell you how many times I re read that page in the guide to droids as a kid and just pictured controlling such a beast of a machine.
Always a happy spot in my day to take a break and watch one of your videos. Love it, thanks so much.
Your handling of spoilers was perfection. Thank you for not treating me like I’m 4 when it comes to content.
Knowing that an entire planet in its wartime economic prime could only afford to field a little over 100 of these things and that they could demolish platoons of highly trained clones… makes you wonder how the pikes got two of them, and then they were destroyed by one older clone and his pet.
All that fire power and it can't even puncture a Mos Espa wall :P
I love this kind of focused content. Well done!
Absolutely loving these break downs !
the droids looks like something that skynet would've built
“Can destroy a dozen AT-TE’s”
*Doesn’t land a single shot on a single Freetown fighter
It wouldn't be able to destroy AT-TES either, if it's just walking.
This droid was goofy. A dedicated turret droid that is inaccurate from 20 yards? It took all the suspense out of the battle.
This is my favorite type of content on your channel, you do an amazing job at these breakdowns
Can't wait to see what the LEGO community comes up with on this one.
my first thought was the Sith War Droids from the old Republic. Also it strikes me as really odd that the Pikes would divert such a expensive piece of hardware let alone 2 to such a backwater world like Tatooine.
One can only hope they justify it later with some information we aren't aware of yet.
I'd love to see a video about those Dark Empire droids and mechs!
I can’t wait to see Lego make one of these droids.
I can understand not being able to hit the main characters, but not a single rando died to that fucking droid lmao
Probably due to just that Palpatine made certain they didn't.
Yeah, remember that they were always playing to lose.
I was expecting either boba or mando to fly off and get their hype ships to deal with these walking tanks, but nope. Such a wasted opportunity.
As powerful as they seemed, they barely did any damage in the show. Disappointing, but that is the show in a nutshell.
They almost killed Din and hurt the Rancor several times.
Just seeing them makes my mouth water they’re so fucking over powered
Design flaw: It clearly needs a tail to be a properly scorpion-looking thing. Maybe slap a small mortar there or something.
I love how they pull things from Comics and other lore for the show.
I always thought those droids were really cool, and I was glad to see them in action for the first time.
I got a terminator vibe from those droids
These are cool but damn the book of boba fett made them look so bad. They started shooting at 10m 🤦🏿♂️
My explanation is bad spare parts.
Intimidation is a weapon of its own
You know what's intimidating? Killing effectively!
Plus they couldn't hit anything. They were firing a crowd of people running down a long narrow street in straight line (practically fish in a barrel) and they still couldn't hit them.
You know what’s bad for narrative? Killing effectively
Somehow no one got killed by these things...
Those are so cool and love we get more stuff from legends
Let's face the facts. The only reason everyone in Boba Fett's group survived was because they were protected by plot armor. Otherwise these Scorpenek Annihilator Droids would've desimated that group of farmers and street punks and whatnot. LoL!😅🤣
Or these 30 year old plus models with extremely hard to source replacement parts just have janky firing systems
@@TheHonoredMadman nah it's just plot armor, the clay wall had as much plot armor as season 7 game of throne character.

Oh come on now. If one Scorpenek Annihilator Droids is capable of taking out three to four platoons (that's at least 200 or so number of troops) and capable of taking out several AT-TE Walkers.
A Scorpenek Droid's high power blaster cannons should have no problem penetrating a concrete wall or ramming right through it. Old and defective targeting system notwithstanding.
So yeah, they were made very underpower within the season finale episode. It was seriously plot armor bullf**kry at play here.😅😌
I LOVE the scorpenek annihilator as it was some of the first legends lore I ever read an I hope we can see it on some verses matches on the channel.
I love how they brought one of if not my most favorite droid from the depths of star wars lore out to the main scene. BUT come-on these things where killers in the expanded universe. They aren't stormtroopers that comically miss their targets when its plot convenient. They are droids with literal targeting computers built into them by the Colicoids who spared no expense when it came to droid manufacturing.
If it wasn't for plot convenience im sure our beloved Boba and his gang would've been dead before the rancor could've shown its face. If all it take is two of technological terrors to turn a whole battalion of clone troopers and a column of AT-TEs to dust, idk what kinda vibranium plot armor this is but i want it in my life😂
Thank you for being responsible about spoilers; that really sets you apart! ❤️
Well hell this has been one of my favorite heavy battle droids I have ever seen but now we actually get to see it in action oh I'm so looking forward to it or to it.
This video was awesome. I was explaining to my friend that the finale had a lot of Attack
Of the Clones vibes. I kept on thinking about how in the clone wars Ahsoka and Anakin helped Saul Guerra and his group fight against droidekas using emp grenades…. Lots of fan service in the finale , many from the prequels.
I knew the moment that I saw the droid that it was made by the Colicoids.
Seeing the Annihilator droids was amazing, I loved their whole sequence in the episode

Fun fact: the arc trooper he mentioned was in legends called Stec, and was not only a member of the muunilist 10 bit was among those sent to Hypori (the one with Z-6/minigun)
the inability to turn its head would/should have lead to an immediate redesign if it was ever actually built and fielded. this is the WW1 tank of destroyer droids.
I just wanted to say thanks for keeping this video spoiler friendly. I have been more than a little upset with a lot of the StarWars content creators lately for posting spoilers before the episode is even available in my country. So thanks for respecting that.
The name “Skorpenek Annihilator” is the coolest name for a droid ever and whoever named it deserves a raise both in and out of universe
I saw the droid and I was like "Have I seen this droid somewhere before?". And thanks to you I remembered it was in The Essential Guide to Warfare.
Specifically, from the video game Star Wars Battlefront.
as soon as these droids presented themselves I immediately got the impression these were mobile anti-aircraft battery. the quad mounted and large caliber cannons look like they would be ideal for defending a placement from aerial attack.
i remember seeing this in a prequels concept art book at school, never thought id ever see it in live action
I'm such a nerd I recognized them and got excited by just seeing their silhouette.
Another big Dark Empire parallel (and possible reference?) is how the heavily shielded Viper droids end up going down to physical attacks from very Rancor-like chrysalis beasts
I seem to remember seeing somewhere that they first appeared "on screen" in a video game where you're playing as TX-130 speeder tanks.
Plus the fact they are able to regrow limbs on command, seems very useful!
The Droideka only evolved and cousin of the HK Tank of Terminator
Personally, I thought the droids were a disappointment; they look cool, but I'm fairly sure they were destroyed without killing anyone. The only serious damage they inflicted wasn't even with their cannons; it was their legs!
As for being vehicle killers, they couldn't even shoot through the sandstone blocks the good guys were hiding behind, and they were so slow that Boba and the Mandalorian spent good chunks of the episode just dancing around them.
Plot armor dude
@@rndm7528 if it's guns weren't strong enough to punch through red shirt armour, the threat is insufficient
