Hi Carlos and Laura! Thank you so much for sharing your journey moving to Pico. Your vlogs have been very helpful to us. I am a native of Pico living in USA. Watching your videos brought back memories. Let me say that having someone that doesn't show up to finish the work, isn't only in Pico but also here in USA. It's all over and at times we have to call them non stop and even with that, they don't bother to show up. Im glad that you found someone realiable , honest and hard worker. They are hard to find ! Keep up with your vlogs! thanks for sharing it!
We're glad you're enjoying the journey. It means a lot. It does happen all over. You feel it more in smaller places. The worst for us is more the workers that just don't care. It's all particularly of the adventure. Take care, Helen.
Finaly progress worth to see , Rui seems to be the right worker you should had discover at the very begining of your progect. Congrats the place is starting to look great.
Nature and perfect subtropical sun , sky and sea , thats what you want , living in your reno house , all the work and money spent will be payed back and appreciated .🎉
Its so amazing that you found someone that does a great job and you can trust to do the work. I saw he used the circle saw machine and does not protect his ears and eyes. Please let him know that in the long run he could damage his ears. ( Just a concerned viewer)
I remember years ago when I was little going back to San Jorge I said to my mother " people move slow here". Coming from Canada life was different. Island Time is a thing and you have embrace the ambiance. Cheers
Tá levando o seu tempo mas tá fiquando muito linda 👍gosto muito dos seus vídeos e das lindas paisagens sobre a minha ilha é muito linda gostei muito de ver 👍👍👍 uma continuação de um bom trabalho 👍
Hello! I have been out of pocket for a bit - so many updates! It looks beautiful! Love the cows. 😊 Although there are renovations issues, it is all worth it.
Looks great a little bit of a headache when people don’t complete their work but it’s still moving forward and looking fantastic and that ocean view wow thanks again for the update.
We love watching how you are remodeling this beautiful home. Love the floors and the windows. Great move on covering the stairs in the one bedroom. One thing my wife Nella would like to mention about the kitchen tiles. Her OCD has noticed that the last cabinet, the tile doesn’t go all the way up to the ceilings. Our D7 destination is Funchal in May. It will be sometime before we get to visit Pico Island. When we do hopefully we can meet.
We are glad that you are enjoying the reno, it means a lot. Pico will be waiting, and we can definitely meet. Who knows, maybe you will choose to stay at our place. Have a wonderful time in Madeira! Take good care!
Carlos. Good morning enjoying your show this morning again I’ve been watching for the last year and a half or so. Just wanted to come in on the fours house is looking good but they should’ve put the silicone between the floor and the trim. As you know that’s supposed to be a floating floor, there’s not much room for floating anymore side to side
I understand what you mean and would be worried about if it wasn't this type of vynil. We still left a very small space between the vynil and the wall. If it was wood or laminate, the space would be bigger. The silicone we used is light, used mostly to fill the uneven gaps between the vynil, the floor, and the wall. We hope that all will be fine. Cheers
Olá vizinhos! Looks great and near finish - like our own. We had to do the bathroom and one or two other smaller things like moving the electricity meter from the inside to the outside. Today we were in Madalena to apply for this with EDA. We are on Pico since Saturday and hope to see you within the next days.
We have touch on previous videos, some of the things we have gone through with this reno. We will spend more time at the end on this subject, stay tuned. Take good care Christobar!
Question: I’m a U.S. carpenter in Hawaii, considering the lack of construction professionals there do you think I can find work to support myself 6 months year?
Quality labor is not only a problem in the islands, but overall Portugal and even Europe. I would say that the biggest island of Sao Miguel would have more skilled talent to choose from, main reason being that it is bigger and with half the population of all the Azores. Take care!
Hey guys, how do you keep the moisture from traveling up your stone walls that are grounded in earth? That's a big question that never gets answered in these types of reno videos in Portugal and Azores.
My answer to your question on why and how the moisture travels up the stone wall is that we do not know. This might be a question for a builder or engineer. What we can answer is that there are various wYs to keep humidity/moisture out of the house ; fireplace, heating system, high quality insulation, etc. We were lucky that this house never had a humidity problem, but we still added proper insulation. I hope this helps. Otherwise, Google old lava house construction in Piryugal. Cheers
Where in Lajes? I'm visiting and staying at Bella Vista in center of village. Would love to meet you at Pasteria at corner of Road Saco. Thinking of relocating here
@@ourjourneyonpicoisland-car552 I'm leaving tomorrow, Monday. Maybe noon tomorrow? I'll be there no matter, so if you make it, great. If you don't we'll meet next time
Average hourly rate falls between 9 and 13 euros, from our experience. I had a guy that charged 8 euros per hour, he did some work on the side. The guy I have now works full time for himself, he charges 12 euros an hour. I hope this helps. Cheers!
My Parents had the same problem. My Parents renovated the summer house in Terceria Island. The workers took the sweet time making MONEY OFF OF MY PARENTS HARD EARNED DOLLARS. R.I.P✝️🕯My Parents died, Now, the house sold , My brothers and me are divided. Don't talk much. EVERY THINGS COMES TO AN END !!!

I worry about these guys and advise them to protect them. They don't always listen. Cheers

It's so great that you found someone to help move the project along faster. Looks really good! Quite a transformation happening!

O Rui é um tesouro!
Verdade David! A treasure!
In regards to the walls not being straight and the trim not lining up that occurs here in Canada also. Caulking is used to resolve the issue.
That is true Fernando, It's good to remember that. Take good care!
Looking awesome Carlos.
Thank you so much Dennis! Cheers!

Ruby did a great job, but he won a little too tight. This might become an issue for you in the future with humidity dampness salon salon on pico.

So skillful man! Do you have more Ruis on the island?
Looking fantastic !
Thank you Jess!
Would love to learn more about how the process has gone! There's very few youtube channels documenting renovations on the Azores and Madeira.

Hi Carlos. In regards to skilled help.. renos, plumbing, electric , etc. Which Island has all the skilled talent pool compared to Pico?
