I love the honesty and realism. Just because something sounds amazing/is amazing that doesn't mean it becomes a hit as in "a sucessful record". Of course we can all hear if something sounds like a hit, but wether it becomes a commercial hit is a whole other story.

Insightful interview, I admire the path Michael forged. Hopefully I can soak up some of that wisdom. Just entering the world of mixing after almost 20 years on the songwriting and musician side of things. It’s already transformed my perception of the sound spectrum.

The fact that Michael was humble enough to learn from others made him who he is today.

I don't care who you are, you always learn from others. Even if it's just because you listened to music. If you listen to music, you develop a taste. Some things you like, some things you don't. And the things you like, you will try to make yourself. So even if you are not copying the process, you are kind of copying the result. There's no person on this earth who is not under heavy influence by what others did and thought.

Thanking about his comment the mix changes from song to song. I will have to remember that as I learn to mix and compress.

Dude was in a cover band for 2 years , but didn't want to copy anyone while stealing it all.
