Safer to use an open jaw spanner on the flat neck held securely in a bolted down decent vice and before attempting to take it off check there is not a left hand screw threaded retaining screw down in the center the chuck looking from the jaw opening .

U can wedge a screwdriver in between the exposed gears and clamp the chuck with a by script... 😀... Going counterclockwise... 😀... These things get corroded too easily... 😳
