Yup, it's THAT good...We're going on an epic roadtrip next weekend! Follow @roadsuntraveled on Instagram to keep up with our shenanigans. Also at 4:40 this thing really screams :O
+Thomas I've heard videos on TH-cam that make a Huracan or an Aventador sound like crap, videos never do cars justice, nor matter how great the audio quality. At 4:40 is sounds unreal in my opinion, and even better in person :D it was great.
they sound nothing like honda's. Just the nature of an N/A inline-6. Get your ears checked, and like he said, YT compresses videos shitty sometimes, so nah videos don't do any justice.
it has a euro supersprint race muffler with two big vibrant resonators, and stock euro headers, the mic made it sound more raspy. in person it sounds better, but i still want to install cats to dampen more rasp next winter. i assure you all it sounds great in person. cmaaan.
Agreed... That fart can sound doesn't make the S50B3x justice. Might be the camera, idk, but in the video it sure sounds... And this hurts to write... Jap 4banger.
I love my e36 M3. Do I wish I had a Euro Spec, yeah. However, the US spec is brilliant in its own right, more torque down low and a few simple mods can really make them scream like the Euro cars. The way these cars wrap around you is infectious.
The main reason why that is is because Americans barely bought the E30 M3, so we almost didn’t get an E36 M3 at all, but that’s to so efforts from dedicated Beamer lovers in the US we managed to with the compromise being that we got a significantly cheaper car with a less sophisticated engine, which in terms of reliability was actually also a win, and it meant that, because it was only 5k more than a 325i the M3 actually sold extremely well. So haters may dislike the US M3’s engine but because it was easier to produce we actually managed to get an M3 in the first place! 😊
+Turboahdettu Supra Its most definitely not a straight pipe. Our exhaust mic just doesn't properly capture the bass notes of the engine. 4:40 you can really hear it scream :D sounds amazing.
No I agree that something is loose or whatever. Regardless of it being the cat or mufflers. And these engines straight piped don't sound great. Driven and few of my friends and you ever go out for some night drifting or hooning, it's way too loud as well.
I had a E46 M3 that rattle and rasp is a love it or hate it thing. I only liked mine at very high rpms mine sounded bit better, no rattles this is the nature of this motor. Its a good looking car, regardless.
What are you talking about? That's two different engines. E36 euro has S50B32 and E46 M3 has S54B32. I am running a 335i only with downpipes and the N54B30 sounds amazing. The older N/A engines sounds very nice as well with Eisenmann race exhaust. Doesn't make it sound like a fartbox, like when you straight pipe it.
E46 didnt need to have rasp i got rid of it no problem with headers and muffler sounded like racecar.check channel if you wanna see it. Imo people fuck the e46 sound up too easily and stock its not good sound either.
I turned down a 3.2L 321hp Estoril Blue 4-door with 200 000km because it was too heavily modifed. Will I regret this in 5 years? Yes. Prices haven't really jumped yet, so there's still a chance. Asking price for that one was 154 000SEK (talked it down to 145), about 14 000 USD. Logicly, they will fly away in price in the next few years because, apart from being rwd and manual, they are somewhat forgotten. The E30 M3 is well, gone forever for normal people to buy, the E46 is still somewhat cheap but the manual versions tend to run higher than the SMG versions, and when you compare weight and hp, the E36 and E46 are basicly identical. E9x still haven't dropped yet and the new F-whatever is really not interesting to anyone than people with alot of dough. So, the E36 is right now at its most obtainable part in its life. Grab one now.
I bought my 3.2 Coupé with 175 000 km for 91 000 SEK two years ago. Now they are at least 50% more. But I won't even mention how much I have spent on parts but the euro E36 M3's are definitely worth it.
Nick Hammer Gotten mine like two months ago 😁 WBA tho, but who cares, it's an M3 anyways, it's just that the WBS was crashed so everything was swapped over 😏
I've got a 94 325is so I'm wiping up drool off my phone right now. To me, the e36, along with the second iteration of the e39, are the two best looking BMWs ever produced (outside of the low run cars like the 850 csi). After the e39 the 5 series went to hell, and the 3 series followed suit after the e46 (the s65 is a great engine though). That body style has just aged perfectly and I don't ever see it reaching a point where it won't be appealing. Might not be on quite the same level as say a 1970 Chevelle, but like that car the lines are timeless. With the e36 now reaching the 2000-3000 dollar range for higher mileage used versions, even with their high production numbers they will get a little more rare year by year as they find their way to the junkyard.
Bought my 99’ auto vert M3 for 2 grand with a 163K miles. Three years later: restored to showroom condition with hardtop and LTWs, now with 173K miles. The US version of this car (even the auto), is awesome as hell.
My college roommate's cousin used to have an e36, blue-ish color. Thinking back to that time a few years ago, I really underappreciated the design of that car, since I drove a 1st gen ls400 and didnt think much of German cars. Now I look at it again and i can appreciate it a little more. Thanks for the review again Marcus. Great job 🙂
In Australia we got the European spec cars and because I’ve owed one years ago with S50B32 6 speed 98 210 mm diff / rear end and even M Motorsport options so it was a higher spec car . Some car only 6 speed had SMG transmission like on e46 m3 , but those cars always had issues with that system and many people back in the day converted them to normal manual transmissions .
E36 seating position is fine at first days, but later on you realize that your feet are to the left, your hands are to the right and your spine is twisted. And you if are taller then 190cm then you will rub the headliner.
Agree e36 oem seating position feels fine for a while... But you need some mods, and it's night and day Fixed back race bucket hard mounted on the floor and steering wheel with massive dish + spacers/QR I am 195cm and I barely can see over the front panel, massive amounts of head room
darek4488 I'm ~186, but with a helmet, I had a very hard time fitting in mine 😁 Specially since I needed a proper seating position as I was in a drift event 😂 In the end, I simply took out the rubber piece around the sunroof and that gave me extra 1-1.5cm of head room 😏 Also, I find my knees being very close to the steering wheel, not hitting it tho, but closer than I feel comfortable 😃 I guess a proper bucket seat will solve all of the problems 😉
If you ever get to drive the Evo E36 (3.2) you will see the massive difference between that and the standard E36. Not hating on the standard 3.0 model though, all ///M's are brilliant cars in their own way. Enjoy!
m20s m30s s50s and s54s are all pretty raspy perhaps this one could do with a mid section silencer to take the edge off or go fully straight piped with no silencer. can't wait to get my m30 powered e24 singing again.
Absolutely gorgeous car. But I'm sorry to say if I just heard this vid instead of watching I wud think it's a freakin Honda. Terrible sound. Wow it's to a point where I'm having to turn the vol down
he did make this sound really bad and s50 can easily be made to sound good e46 on other hand is usually a hassle (i got lucky id say) great video tho i love your reviews man keep it up👍
There were 40 something of these imported into Canada prior to the latter North American E36 M3 which was released. I think a few have been wrecked but still cool if you have one of these originals.
The US versions of these were around 3200 lbs. The Euro versions probably similar since the engines were both iron block and aluminum cylinder head regardless of region.
guys i know it sounds weird, but you have to take in consideration that the cameras that roads untraveled use only pick up voice and some of the car sound. If you listen to some of the other takes on this video you can realize a much different and pure sound.
Yup, it's THAT good...We're going on an epic roadtrip next weekend! Follow @roadsuntraveled on Instagram to keep up with our shenanigans. Also at 4:40 this thing really screams :O
Roads Untraveled - sorry that exhaust note is crap. You see beautiful BMW but then think a Honda is approaching. 😭
Get your ears checked, and like he said, YT compresses videos shitty sometimes, so nah videos don't do any justice.
song please?
Thomas I agree, the owner put a 100% rice exhaust...in from the uk and this exhaust is a joke 😂😂 fml lol
Please stop mixing in the "noise" from a microphone placed near the muffler. This is not how these cars sound and it sounds like crap on top.
Thank u.like the euro m50 is one of the best sounding engines,no need to mic it
I see E36
I like
Yo Marcus if you love how this M3 sounds you are going to love me after I had chipotle for dinner
This sound doesn't represent the S50B30/B32 very well. They sound much better with just a Supersprint race muffler or Eisenmann race.
it has a euro supersprint race muffler with two big vibrant resonators, and stock euro headers, the mic made it sound more raspy. in person it sounds better, but i still want to install cats to dampen more rasp next winter. i assure you all it sounds great in person. cmaaan.
Agreed... That fart can sound doesn't make the S50B3x justice. Might be the camera, idk, but in the video it sure sounds... And this hurts to write... Jap 4banger.
Troels Plougmann Olsen what 4 banger sounds like that ?
Euphorica The fartcanny sound. It doesn't sound like the straight six rasp we all love.
Troels Plougmann Olsen you're fooled. It is the mic not the car. I own it and it sounds better in person
I love my e36 M3. Do I wish I had a Euro Spec, yeah. However, the US spec is brilliant in its own right, more torque down low and a few simple mods can really make them scream like the Euro cars.

So haters may dislike the US M3’s engine but because it was easier to produce we actually managed to get an M3 in the first place! 😊
What's with that exhaust?! Sounds like a 1.6 Toyota!!
Just picked up an E36. Not an M3, but still a great looking and great driving car!
Great vid man!
Kalvins Garage i picked one too up a 318i 4 door in austria☺
Da nije malo slab 318? :)
za prvi auto dosta
The Zokii ドリフト bitno da ide :)
Kalvins Garage yeah I can't afford a m3 so got a 328is
love this car, particularly the 90's-tastic seats and door cards.
yeah that loose straight pipe ruins the sound of s50 engine completely
Turboahdettu Supra not a straight pipe, you can literally see the mufflers in the back.
well then its loose katalytic converter or muffler who knows but somethings not right with that exhaust
You guys should try to attach a mic next to the intake next time, that really gets rid of the "farty" noise of exhausts. Other than that, top work!
I had a E46 M3 that rattle and rasp is a love it or hate it thing. I only liked mine at very high rpms mine sounded bit better, no rattles this is the nature of this motor. Its a good looking car, regardless.
Mike K this one would sound good with a better exhaust, that exhaust ruins that car
What are you talking about? That's two different engines. E36 euro has S50B32 and E46 M3 has S54B32.
I am running a 335i only with downpipes and the N54B30 sounds amazing.
The older N/A engines sounds very nice as well with Eisenmann race exhaust. Doesn't make it sound like a fartbox, like when you straight pipe it.
the e36 m3 evo doesnt rasp at all and it plays an amazing tune with a eisenmann race exhaust.
E46 didnt need to have rasp i got rid of it no problem with headers and muffler sounded like racecar.check channel if you wanna see it. Imo people fuck the e46 sound up too easily and stock its not good sound either.
That M-Technic "Hurricane" interior alone is worth more than most e36s.
axeaxe46 fact
True especially since its original
*M Rain
Clean Car. Exhaust, ehh. Bit too raspy.
BXRchampion1993 Could be the mic as well, mics don't always do exhaust tones justice as opposed to being there in person.
youre completely 100% correct.
Sounds like a honda
This channel is only increasing my hatred of the 25-year import law.
That's what I call perfection
I turned down a 3.2L 321hp Estoril Blue 4-door with 200 000km because it was too heavily modifed. Will I regret this in 5 years? Yes. Prices haven't really jumped yet, so there's still a chance. Massive props for keeping it this clean, all the haters who like talking trash about the sound should go and actually listen to the car
Very good review. I believe the later year euro spec e36 m3s got 6 speeds and a power bump to 320
Bought my 99’ auto vert M3 for 2 grand with a 163K miles. Three years later: restored to showroom condition with hardtop and LTWs, now with 173K miles. The US version of this car (even the auto), is awesome as hell.
2k oh man do i wish i could see a m3 for sale for 2k id buy a rolling shell even 😆
That poopy exhaust is simply RUINING the thing :/
Great review and example of a Euro spec classic! Keep up the great work guys!
Nice and clean car specially with a straight six n/a power sounds wicked
My college roommate's cousin used to have an e36, blue-ish color. Thinking back to that time a few years ago, I really underappreciated the design of that car, since I drove a 1st gen ls400 and didnt think much of German cars. Now I look at it again and i can appreciate it a little more. Thanks for the review again Marcus. Great job 🙂
i dont know why a lot of people hate the sound. actually i love it, it sounds like 6cyl car in 70s
Sounds too much like a riced Honda... I love and have 2 E36's but this sounds overly raspy, could just be the camera tho
It's the freaking mic at the exhaust, go to 3:18 and see the real sound of it
In Australia we got the European spec cars and because I’ve owed one years ago with S50B32 6 speed 98 210 mm diff / rear end and even M Motorsport options so it was a higher spec car . Some car only 6 speed had SMG transmission like on e46 m3 , but those cars always had issues with that system and many people back in the day converted them to normal manual transmissions .
Ucla jacket and Yankees hat: I hate you
Great vid! Love this channel, but you can tell when a car is slow, because you actually have time to watch the revs rise 😂
funny to see that something that is so common over here can so special somewhere else!
God all of the hate for the exhaust note surprised me I love it
abracing199 Reminds me a lot of the E46 M3. Probably sounds much better in person with the bass sounds.
that exhaust is a disaster
Nice clean vid with great commentary, keep it up I enjoyed!!
I appreciate your rev matches.
I always though these tipped in right around 31-3200 lbs?? 2800 seems awfully light for an E36! Gorgeous cars though...always lusted after one!
Correct
The euro spec e36 M3 actually came with a 6- speed manual. Definitely then next upgrade for that car
Brenden Sotelo they came with 5 and 6 spd. The ratios are the same....with the extra gear for the 6. The 5 spd box is stronger too.
E36 seating position is fine at first days, but later on you realize that your feet are to the left, your hands are to the right and your spine is twisted. And you if are taller then 190cm then you will rub the headliner.
Agree e36 oem seating position feels fine for a while...
But you need some mods, and it's night and day
Fixed back race bucket hard mounted on the floor and steering wheel with massive dish + spacers/QR
I am 195cm and I barely can see over the front panel, massive amounts of head room
darek4488 only the steering g wheel is off to the right. same in most 3 series generations
darek4488 I'm ~186, but with a helmet, I had a very hard time fitting in mine 😁 Specially since I needed a proper seating position as I was in a drift event 😂 In the end, I simply took out the rubber piece around the sunroof and that gave me extra 1-1.5cm of head room 😏
Also, I find my knees being very close to the steering wheel, not hitting it tho, but closer than I feel comfortable 😃 I guess a proper bucket seat will solve all of the problems 😉
Symbolic I'm 6'1 no issues normally. with a helmet it takes e fine adjustments in the stock seats
Euphorica stock seats are terrible compared to fixed racing buckets
It's a gem thats for sure
Those wheels and brakes are beautiful
What wheels are they?
A beauty of car.
I agree with you that the 3.0 litre M3 is underrated and probably is about 300bhp. I own one and it is fast!! 🚘
If you ever get to drive the Evo E36 (3.2) you will see the massive difference between that and the standard E36. Not hating on the standard 3.0 model though, all ///M's are brilliant cars in their own way. Enjoy!
I have watched this video more than 100 times . This is my dream car and motivation for me .
Come to Australia and drive my 3.2 euro spec e36.... clean as this one but the proper engine and 6spd gearbox ;)
The one you're selling? Looks like a track car to me ;)
Emerson Varley I have the same as you s50b32 with the 6 speed. That's the only way to go😁
Can I swap you my 1991 M50B25 5 Speed manual sedan E36? :P
Sean good luck with that one bud.
Hahaha you'll never know unless you ask man
Sonho de consumo.
Simplesmente um carro espetacular...incrível!
Abraços do Brasil!!
Great job! I would like to see more interior sots maybe. But that's just my opinion. Again, great job! Keep it up!
What's the door card and shifter boot pattern called
e36 is life
m20s m30s s50s and s54s are all pretty raspy perhaps this one could do with a mid section silencer to take the edge off or go fully straight piped with no silencer. can't wait to get my m30 powered e24 singing again.
The proper Eurospec is the M3 EVO 3.2i with 321BHP S50 B32 Engine.
do you know how much that spec is selling for these days?
Nonsense, it's the same car with a larger engine and a 6-speed gearbox.
Hurricane interior 😍
Awesome contant quality & video production keep up dude ;)
One of the best looking but worst sound e36's i've seen, sounds like the e46
One E36 youtube presence needs to grow! Lets youtube all the E36's!!!!
Where it was filmed ? beautiful contrast between the car and the nature ❤️
the best video of e36 of all time ....
Absolutely gorgeous car. But I'm sorry to say if I just heard this vid instead of watching I wud think it's a freakin Honda. Terrible sound. Wow it's to a point where I'm having to turn the vol down
Great video man! Nice work 👍🏼
Легенда всех времен....
Legend of all times...
Whats up with the buzzy exhaust? Nice car overall.
the lower ratio 3.2 difff is a great mod on the 3.0
I think the sound isn't that bad
Good old days, e30 I grew up as a kid since dad one , e46 uncle drove me around.
1 question...
What wheel type are those?
Does anyone know what kind of steering wheel that is?
Whats the brand of that steering wheel ?
The real ultimate driving machine
he did make this sound really bad and s50 can easily be made to sound good
e46 on other hand is usually a hassle (i got lucky id say)
great video tho i love your reviews man keep it up👍
Just got a 318i worldline from 1997 , i love it !
it'd be cool if you did a review on the e39 m5
straight pipe makes it sound like the e-type from the 60s or the eagle speedster.
derpinated it does sound like an eagle speedster.
There were 40 something of these imported into Canada prior to the latter North American E36 M3 which was released. I think a few have been wrecked but still cool if you have one of these originals.
What's better to get E36 M3 or E46 M3?
The S50b30 is Raw and bulletproof!!!
Is that a super sprint race exhaust? How do you think it sounds
supersprint race muffler with 2 big vibrant resonators and stock euro m3 headers. sounds better in person
Sick video btw, I swear the later models of the euro spec m3's came with a 6 speed.
They did, yah! Tough to find an import as far as I know. And obviously they pull a little bit of a premium
Roads Untraveled welcome to come and drive mine
Literally one of my dream cars
Dude that car sounds amazing with ITBs
This is the old pre face lift e36 M3, you need to drive the euro e36 M3 from 1996 onward which has 321bhp stock
Great production
I am pretty sure that the E36 M3 was 3100-3200lbs.
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT WHEELS THOSE ARE OMFG
Beautiful car, looks like new! but exhaust is way too loud, it covers the bmw l6 experience
Love these euro spec engines, have the 3,2 variant in mine.
You should have done this video on Duffy lake road
This is dope.
im a simple guy , i see e36 m3 and i hit like
I need that hurricane interior, makes it look way better inside.
If you listen to some of the other takes on this video you can realize a much different and pure sound.
yes, I Don't Care for the sound, but you don't really know what you have until it's on.
Why not the 3.2 Liter with 321hp??
as always nice chipmunk music
+Tyai Littol Why thank you! *takes a bow*
What an awesome car!!
Exhaust sounds like shit but nice car
It sounds so raspy because of the mic that captured it...
I would love to see an e46 csl review!
Alex Kersten from CT approves this!
what rims are that?
Looks top!!
What brand and model was the steering wheel? Freaking gorgeous car.
Is this the 3.0 m3?
You must try to do a review of a M3 e36 evo, 321hp, simply awesome!!!!
sounds great.the 5 spd is a better box than the 6.
Euphorica how is a 5 speed better than a 6?
