I really liked the straight forward information on absinthe! I live in europe and Ive been wanting to try an american brand! The labels and colours are beutiful!
Awesome video and you explain it so simply and with info I never heard about before...I will definitely get some Absinthe soon.....cannot wait. Thank you so much, you are such a cool guy!
This is one of my favorite drinks, and Mike does a great job explaining it. I was fortunate enough to meet him about a year ago, and he REALLY knows his stuff. Nice video!
Why didn't you show how to make it with the sugar so we'd know how to do it the right way? How much does a bottle cost and what stores in other states can I find it in? Thanks:)
Wikipedia doesn't state that thujone is a hallucinogen. You may want to look it up as well. Any articles stating that it is are either referring to no source or to the 1974 theoretical study published in Nature magazine. Please show me any material about hallucinatory effects of thujone (other than those making presumptions based on how similar its molecule looks (!) to THC).
but what about thujone? i thought that is what is in wormwood that makes ppl trip. also is there a pink/orange colored absinthe, the one marilyn manson drinks in all his interviews (not Mansinthe)? thank you.
its a shame this isn't legal in Canada...the absinthe we get here cant be the same since it doesn't get cloudy...maybe im wrong but ive done everything by the book to and prepared it exactly as it should be but it just still comes out clear green....
Probably would be a good idea to mic the interviewee. It helps to hear him clearly and prevent that "two different worlds" effect where you sound like you're in different places.
we're going to have to agree to disagree because thujone IS a powerful hallucinogen. as much as i hate to refer to wiki look it up...as i said though there is no where near enough in absinthe for it to effect you
my question...the U.S. allows absinthe with under 10PPM of Thujone...yet you can import such brands like Hapsburg black Amere which contains the maximum amount of thujone permitted in alcoholic beverages by EU law - 35mg/kg, so what gives? I am wondering then do all overseas absinthe makers secretly/or maybe not secretly have to then lessen the thujone amounts of their higher thujone normal overseas absinthe products only in their shipped to the U.S. bottles...thereby you continue thinking that you are importing a bottle of what you would think is the exact stuff you would get overseas but really not.
yeah, but in the bottled alcohol form in modern day, it isn't anywhere close enough to kill you. Everything is poisonous in moderation. Such as too much caffeine.
Lol I remember on a school trip to Prague last year I took 6 shots of absinthe in a club xD Don't remember anything from that night, woke up in somebody else's bed :P Crazy shit!
No one "Sets the Absinthe on fire", they pour the Absinthe over the sugar cube when they are filling up the glass and then they set the SUGAR cube on fire and let it melt. Then they can drop the melted cube into the Absinthe and stir + then add water.
You are not even supposed to do it like you said. You are supposed to put a bit of absinthe in the glass and then put the spoon on top of the glass, then put the sugar cube on that, then let the fountain drip water onto the sugar until it melts, then you stir with the spoon and it's ready.
Nice! It's rare to see a vid on absinthe this accurate and honest, top notch!
Absent was the first drink that was given to me on my 21 Birthday and I love it!🤩

Well done. Honest, straight-forward information. No hype, no lies.
It's time for a road trip for a tour. I want to try both varieties you make. Soon,
Thanks for the instructions. I'm adding this to our bar and needed some directions.
I bought the 1 bottle in Door County Fish Creek Market recently. No regrets.
Beautiful fountain, I’ll take it.

Where would you recommend getting a good brouilleur and pontarlier glass online?
*I heard that with some drops of burn sugar are good in order to reduce the alcohol, is it correct or not at all?* 🙄
Not at all

Brouilleur: pronounced brew-yay

This is my preferred method of preparation. It is simple, easy, and gives consistent results.

great vid thanks
Gotta try it sometime, did it years ago just by doing shots, wasn’t a good idea. Now I know the real way😎

thujone does cause hallucinations in very high doses (look up salvia) but the amount in wormwood and absinthe is negligible

Isn't wormwood poisonous?

It is used to for parasitic treatment in humans.
Where did people late 19th century get icecubes? It seems essential for the taste and color, but fridges were not invented yet right?
They didn't have fridges, but they had ways of transporting ice long distances since Frederic Tutor in the early to mid 1800s
