Info Adjustments: 27:26 → The Deflecting Hardtear gives a damage bonus of 20% for 5 seconds after deflecting an attack. The reason I thought this to be 40% was because the tear's effect can actually determine if an enemy attack is light (1 boost = 20%) or heavy (2 boosts = 40%). The ceiling of the boost is still 80%.
Hey the new patch that came out for Elden ring buffed Rain of Fire finally among other things, turns out it was bugged and so was that stupid thorn spell.
I love these ranking videos but I seriously wish Rusty would put the effects of the items on screen whenever he talks about them because believe it or not despite having hundreds of hours in this game I don't remember what every single spell, incantation, consumable, tear and weapon art does.
PLEASE, Rusty, I’ve seen multiple people asking for this. Most of us don’t have time to scour the wiki and know what every item does. Hell, sometimes we don’t even know an item exists before seeing the video
@@LudwigsTheme I feel like this is just inaccurate. He clearly does put effort into them. They are very well produced. This is just a detail that is missing from them for seemingly no reason.
Y'know, for someone who said he couldn't think of any crystal tears that were objectively useless, you sure did spend a lot of time describing why certain crystal tears were useless.
@@spiraljumper74 Are you mental or am I retarded. Either you're saying that the tear that can break the knees of PC Radahn in two hits is bad because it only lasts 30 seconds, or that it doesn't last long enough and needs a buff
twiggy cracked tear also prevents already dropped runes from being lost permanently when you die, so it can be used to make rune recovery much less stressful
Wait, it just guarantees that runes stay there when you die again or that if I drink it, throw myself off of cliff I can get my runes right back near said cliff?
@@exploertm8738if you grab them before dying you keep them, but if you die on the way there you get another shot Them and the sacrificial branches are useful for what I call a suicide run back, sprint to your runes and die after picking them up not caring about aggro or the mob of angry enemies following you
@@exploertm8738I don't think it will move where your runes on the ground are, it'll just put them back where they were so you can try to pick them up again. So you can basically preserve them out in the world infinitely if you keep drinking your flask before you die, it's the same effect at the sacrificial branch (except it's kinda infinite since it's a potion)
Stonebarb and Unsheathe turns what is already a nuclear level threat of an Ash into an unstoppable world ending two button combo that churns out powdered kneecaps like you're Wonka making Pixie Dust
your comparisons are always hilarious. I remember you mentioned somewhere in a previous video something like "Okay, so everyone who says that this needs a buff because it only lasts thirty seconds: first off, you need a buff because you only last thirty seconds, and number two, That is MORE than enough time for what this does!" and I still hear it randomly in my head when I'm playing.
about the deflecting tear, its base amount is actually 20%, but the game classifies enemy attacks into 2 categories: weak, which gives 1 stack upon deflection, and strong, which gives 2. each stack gives 20% damage up to 80, but it's pretty counterintuitive which attacks are considered "strong" in game. the stacks last 5 seconds, and are refreshed on every deflection. so if you deflect and counter, the stacks will stay if you quickly deflect another attack within 5 seconds of your last deflect.
That's why I paired it with Scholar's Shield + GS talisman + Old Lord talisman. The extra layer of protection and longer duration allowed me to comfortably get the perfect block timings down and it compliments royal knight resolve. This set up without the deflecting tear makes the Icon Shield rather reliable! Can't wait to hopefully renew my PS+. I love to tank for hosts and try to get poise breaks. Nothing beats helping folks.
The deflecting tear is so good and so fun that people are on forums wishing it was either a talisman or just a default component of the game. If that doesn’t immediately tell people how far above the competition it is, idk what does.
Twiggy cracked tear is the new "homeward bone-ing out of a boss arena after picking up your souls" because FromSoft decided not to add a homeward bone equivilent this time around because of the map being what you use to warp, seemingly not realizing it had utility outside of that.
Buddy, you JUST described how Twiggy Cracked Tear is a Homeward Bone. AND you have Sacrificial Twig. They gave you multiple ways to do essentially the same thing, they just changed the name and very slightly the function.
@@viljamtheninja Nope. The difference being I need to actively have twiggy cracked tear in my flask and waste a slot just for that, which would be fine if it weren't for stakes of marikas saving your progress, meaning if you're at a tough boss with no site of grace and want to go in and grab your runes, you'll have to backtrack or teleport back to another site of grace, change your flask, then make your way all the way back to the boss whilst not dying along the way. Sacrificial twig also doesn't count because it's a somewhat limited item and they just replaced rings of sacrifice.
I know that inevitably something needs to be near the bottom, but Crimsonburst is a great tear. Obviously healing a flat amount means it's better at lower HP values, but it heals like 1200+ HP total, compared to the 950 that the Crimson tear heals at 60 vigor. It's great at fixing awkward HP values that could be lethal, but aren't low enough that you'd want to use a flask. It's also great for keeping the ritual talismans active. Idk, I still run it on 2 of my 10 characters at the end-game, and I like experimenting with the crystal tears. Feels like it's very far from the bottom.
I agree it shouldn't be that low, but it really, really shows its age towards endgame, and by the DLC. It stops being a significant overall amount, and the amount per second stops being enough to really change formulas on what will kill you. Opaline Hardtear has a much bigger effect on your durability, regen spells exist and by that point, there's almost no excuse to not just use them. There's a bit of argument to be made with the full health talismans, but, again, with the health and damage amounts swinging around by lategame/dlc, the odds of the regen fulfilling that perfect use case of topping your health off by that sliver between you drinking and closing to attack is basically nonexistent. I guarantee it has happened once if you use it, but probably not more than twice, and the net effect of just using the damage absorption tear and healing normally is kinda just more likely to help. It's my personal pick for early game GOAT tear, but it really, really falls off, since it's a hard HP number in a game where that ratio never gets more comfortable
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 I don't think that it's ever, at any point, as bad as the other stuff that low on the list. It becomes worse in the end game, but never terrible. Most builds won't have access to the good regen spells, and if we're talking something like Bestial Vitality, the Crimsonburst tear is a significantly better healing effect. Nobody is forcing you to immediately engage after drinking a flask. It's easy to play passively until you trigger the ritual talismans again, you don't need to rush back in. The damage absorption tear gives a 15% damage reduction, while the ritual shield gives a 30% reduction when you're at full health. I won't disagree that the Opaline tear is generally better, but the ritual shield is a very strong effect for squishy characters, and Crimsonburst is great for keeping it active. I'm not going to be Crimsonburst's strongest soldier, but even at the end game, it's comparable to passive healing incantations like Blessing's Boon in terms of health-per-tic, or Blessing of the Erdtree in terms of overall health gain, but with no requirements or FP cost.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 Healing spells are exclusively for faith builds. Yeah, I can think of a few reasons not to use them. Also...you keep talking about how it falls off in late game, but it also heals 1200 HP out of 1900. That's 1.5 flasks, and It's more than any regen incantation. That's a *lot*.
@iusethisnameformygoogleacc101 By the time you're at the DLC, if you can't shell out the faith to slap a regen spell on your build, you are clearly playing in a way that means you don't care about what's good, so use whatever you want, I guess. It's really, really not a big ask to shell a few of your coming up on 200 levels to get some basic regen, and you probably want that much for other buffs anyways, and I'm increasingly becoming convinced that for almost all lategame and DLC bosses, Crimsonwhorl is just better for enabling stupid acts of aggression, HP for your tear slot, and generally being good at turning defensive ability into offensive momentum instead of being just basic not-die in a can. The main issue is that it's just not impressive HP/sec by then. It isn't changing hit to kill formulas, it's, at best, a "free" flask if you play slowly, which is certainly *a* way to use your flask, I guess. Opaline Hardtear just does more for your effective HP over time at that point. If you're going hard into a defensive build... you probably have regen on top of it, where it does have a much stronger lategame niche. Again, it's not like it's bad, there are some serious depths of sacred tear depravity you can descend to, it's a good option if there's nothing else you actually want, and if you're playing a character that just isn't using spells for RP purposes, then sure, it's universal regen you can access without using an item.

So, the crimson bubbletear: Yes, endgame bosses do regularly deal well over 20% of your health with a single attack. The thing is tho, i almost never let my hp rest at around the mark were a single attack might just take me out. I'd rather be safe and keep my hp were id at least know I'd be safe to get hit. But I dont heal back up to full because i dont like wasting portions of my flask charges. What this usually results in is my hp resting just above that particular bosses "safe hp point" for most of the fight. This inadvertently results in me surviving attacks with like 8 or 12% hp left pretty consistently. And so I almost never get tearskipped. I've used it pretty extensively, and thats why it almost always procs on every attempt. Effectively giving you an additional 1 time instant automatic red flask. And that shit fucks.
Just to be clear, this isn't me explaining how the bubbletear might be good if you use it properly. I do already get a real good use out of it while just playing the game normally. Keeping my hp just above were id get 1 hit by an endgame boss is my default behavior for aforementioned reasons.
also when do u not have some kind of DR? do people actually run around with just their armor defences? no dragoncrest or anything? that tear singehandedly lets u survive the grab attack from furnace golems. the "useless without DR" point considering the dlc also seems weird since scaudtree blessings give u dr.

The Critical Hit animation interrupting the life drain isnt a bug. Thats been a consistent feature across the games. During crits you have true invincibility, you take no damage or buildup from any sources on anything. It makes fishing for crits a good way to mitigate the HP loss of being poisoned.
In the Crimson Bubbletear's defense, it's still really good as an invader, especially if youre using something a bit more squishy like a Rock Heart build. I know this is a mainly a pve list but i wanted to still offer a good thing about one of my favorite tears :)
@@NecroBanana i wouldn't say that, it's perfectly fine to focus on pve when talking about how good something is, considering it's the majority of the game
Even on PvE it's still really good, it essentially removes a mistake that could cost you the boss attempt, and works against multi hits too unlike the opaline bubbletear
@@NecroBanana Honestly if you are 4 defensive talisman stacking and eating boiled crab, the most survivability you could give yourself is the 2 bubbletears. Opoline hardtear takes the same buff slot as boiled crab, so if you stack all that the crimson bubbletear can save you from A LOT

A fun note about #!: Pair it with the Brass Shield and no boss can fucking hurt you. The deflect takes into account the guard stats of whatever you block with. This means, with the brass shield (just as a medium shield example), you can give a ginormous middle finger to anything that deals physical, magic, lightening, holy, or fire damage if you can time your deflects. Another thing to note is that if an attack is too strong for your shield, it'll send you in a weird backflip animation you can then press guard again to get out of quicker. You can absolutely deflect seemingly impossible combo attacks with proper timing. Godspeed my deflecting sons of war.
0:35 Oh my God, you could grind meat on th- I mean, the Purifying Crystal Tear. The one to beat Mohg, Mohg and his Crystal Tear. You can definitely grind him up with that, sure.
wow #32 for twiggy? I love that thing. i run around with it in all the time. it really adds up after a while especially when levels start costing around 500k. being able to bash my head against bosses without having to worry about rune loss and still get level ups is the best feeling lol. especially with how aggro the DLC is
One use i found for the Twiggy Cracked Tear was to pair it with one of the rupture crystal tears. It's not gonna come up very often, but if you find yourself with a lot of runes on you and for whatever reason aren't able or willing to teleport to a site of grace you can use this combination of tears to bring yourself back to your last site of grace with no runes lost. Maybe there's an item in the game that already does that rendering this pointless. But it's a funny way of saying "I'm going out on my own terms and i'm taking my runes with me" in the middle of a battle you know you can't win while you have a valuable amount of runes on you.
Just for all the Elden Ring TH-camrs that try to pronounce Irish words when they show up in video games: you can google a name, and upon learning it's from a language, you can google how to pronounce diphthongs in that language. It uses the Irish alphabet, not the English one, they just use the same latin script. The Eo diphthong is O as in Oreo. You're pronouncing the Ai in (one) correct way. It comes from the word for Horse.
6:10 Bleed Backhand Blade with blind spot and hidden tear goes unimaginably hard. Spamming that ash does so much damage and almost guarantees a bleed and a stance break.
Glad to catch an upload so early! I just finished watching most of your other rankings, and I'm glad that you aren't gonna stop making them anytime soon.
I'm not sure if I agree with some parts of this list. The elemental ones are easily top 5, at least. A 20% increase in damage with no conditions to trigger it or negative effects is way too good. And even if there are more defensive items and spells Opaline Hardtear is still a flat 15% bonus that lasts for 3 min. Idk just my opinion.
I agree. Saw another person do a list and outside of him having the charged R2 tear in C tier I agreed with his ranking more. But everyone has their own opinion.
I honestly expected Crimson Bubbletear near the top. It literally makes certain one hit kills survivable, like Furnace Golem's grab or Messmer's grab. It's my go-to for boss fights. Having that safety net is really nice for all the spinning attacks and grabs you come across.
This takes me back to the time when my sorcery build got dunked on in duels by this dude abusing crimsonwhorl and winged crystal tear. After the third time meeting the same guy in duels, I put on a faith talisman so I could equip a seal, and memorized law of regression. Seeing that guy lose all his buffs and stagger around the arena like a cripple gave me so much joy. Since then, when I play a build with Int in it I always take that spell into duels just in case. If you bring those tears into a duel, be prepared to lose them instantly.
you cant even use a wonderous physic in duels, you can only use it in combat ordeal. also "sorcery build" as in 3 spells over and over (not you specificially but thats like 90% of sorcery builds)
The moment i saw the Viridian Hidden Tear not working on blocks i knew i have to mod it to work on blocks. Like is not even real unlimited stamina without that. Fromsoftware is false advertising with that one.
Not gonna lie, I have relied to the crimsonburst and greenburst tears for the regen over time, it has helped me by allowing me to survive just barely once or twice but that's it.
@@TheMissinLink there is literally no ryme or reason to his Tierlists. We are lucky he somehow managed to pit the Deflect and Stamina reg tear so high. I wouldnt be suprised if most of his lists are 90% randomizied or him trying to be "different".
Man the crimson bubbletear saved my ass multiple times in my first playthrough of the dlc, it works most of the time, it's not true that it gets bypassed often
The deflecting hardtear gave me some good memories for the Radahn fight. I was trapped against a corner and he was using his nuke. I knew that I couldn’t get out in time, so I got ready to deflect when the attack finally landed. I was still standing with a little bit of damage taken, because it was a holy attack. That was the most epic moment I’ve had during that boss fight, I’m just waiting to get to fight him again in my next playthrough. I have never had a boss make me do something so desperate before. I know a lot of people won’t agree with me that’s fine, but this boss is amazing I have never been pushed so far.
I like the purifying crystal tear, because I like to go mogh hunting outside of his arena to help other people reach the DLC, it's free runes, it's free rune arcs and usually a good time. I am not a minmaxer by any means and I want the host to have a good time too so I like to do "my part" which usually means that Mogh isn't dead by the time his countdown reaches NIHIIIIL! So I need it to not waste the 3 health flasks I take into the arena for when my dragon breath inevitably locks me into getting bitchslapped by mogh. It isn't useless and not a "1 time use" item if you enjoy helping other people :P
i think crimson bubble was very undervalued here, let me know what you think? It's essentially tears of denial from ds3, i.e nearly a must have for pvp and the effect is noticeable especially in invasions - don't take my word for it see high skilled pvp content creators like chasethebro or jeenine for example who use it nearly every time. Even just considering pve, i couldnt be bothered taking it out of my strength build in and out again during my first dlc run since i blended some invasions through my progression so ive used the tear in every bossfight. its proc'd nearly every time, in my radahn fight too and is pretty much an extra heal flask - my kill on radahn was actually from the tear saving me I think if you consider pvp, (which another tear in the video was mentioned for so it looks like pvp has some impact in the video) its ranking shoots up tremendously. Even if only considering pve, i think its not s tier of course but its still not 33rd and way better than some of the stuff above. I think of it like the opaline bubbletear but instead of having it at the start of the fight, you have it at the end. I'd prefer my tear saving me from a life ending hit rather than using bubble at the start and having it broken early by some light after-attack that does like 100 hp. Loved the video though learnt some new stuff especially about the dlc tears
Oh also also the equip load physick isn't criticised by the pvp community because you can have max armour + cannon + mogh spear + anything all in one to swap from (though thats hilarious lmao) but its mostly because you can get the advantages of light rolling without any of the penalties. The first thing mentioned isnt a problem because inventory swapping exists, i.e if you want to swap from a cannon to mogh spear you can just de-equip cannon, re-equip mogh spear. This has the advantage of just flat out not needing the physick so one more slot for something more useful. There is also no weapon swapping animation so you can cut to what you want that much faster. Hope this helps for anyone curious
“The Viridian Crystal Tear can be used on Margit/Morgott and Mogh while using their shackle. You can use fast weapons like bleed or frost claw and spam R1 without using stamina. However, doing so will keep you, just like those who use summons, maidenless.” 😁😁
To be honest, the crimson bubble tear was surprisingly helpful in the final bosses second stage in the Dlc Basically equated to a few free heals thanks to all of the chip damage Wasn’t the most effective tear in that fight but I found it neat
I have read in the wiki that the Pickled Turtle Neck being a temporary and a stamina regen buff doesn't in fact stack with the Greenburst Crystal Tear, referring to your point at 24:39 . Great video loved the thorough explanation thanks for your work
1:03 that’s like actively choosing not to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle at top speed it’s just a stupid decision not to bring the purifying crystal tear against Mohg if you don’t wanna die every time he hits 50% HP.
Not really. Mohg is like... REALLY weak to bleed. Even on NG +5 I've destroyed him with a basic bleed build. If you're NOT using a bleed build, then yes you're playing real reckless with your life, but otherwise he's easier than most heavy duty field enemies.
The Crimsonburst Dried Tear was very useful when I was insisting on fighting Gaius on Torrent. His max HP is pretty low compared to +10 spirit ash summons so the regen is actually noticeable, and most other tear effects are practically useless on horseback, especially for a pure physical build.
Love the vid as always but it'd be so helpful to quickly mention the effects of the item you're ranking. I wish I had an encyclopedic knowledge of Elden Ring items like you do, but alas I don't...
I never know which tears I really want, so most of my runs are just using both Crimson Tears for an instant max HP regain. It's been convenient and requires very little thought on my end. Occasionally I might change it for a specific boss fight here and there, but for the most part it consistently delivers on what it promises and I appreciate it for that.
I know we make jokes about the lists, but if you do end up getting tired and wanting to take a break from them, that randomize run you did a while back was really good, and it owed pretty much entirely to your sense of humor and editing skills.

the twiggy cracked tear and the ruptured crystal tear can make a DIY homeward bone if you really really hate a catacomb you walk into or you've wandered off somewhere in the DLC and want something more entertaining than fast traveling back to where you started
The one niche I found for the Viridian Hidden Tear is that if you're tanking a very aggressive boss (like the final DLC boss), you end up having to be really careful about your stamina and that makes spending stamina on attacks harder. Viridian's effect though means that your attacks don't take stamina so you can say spear poke from behind a shield as much as you want and you're only losing the stamina from taking hits. It then becomes 10 seconds of safely poking the boss.

your comparisons are always hilarious.
Still doesn't change the fact that it gives the kneecap buster even MORE damage.
Having it tied to a timer like that does feel awkward. I don't think the curved sword talisman does that.

@iusethisnameformygoogleacc101
By the time you're at the DLC, if you can't shell out the faith to slap a regen spell on your build, you are clearly playing in a way that means you don't care about what's good, so use whatever you want, I guess.
Next, Rusty shall rank the quality of all my past and current intimate relationships.

"That shit fucks"??

The Critical Hit animation interrupting the life drain isnt a bug. Thats been a consistent feature across the games. During crits you have true invincibility, you take no damage or buildup from any sources on anything. It makes fishing for crits a good way to mitigate the HP loss of being poisoned.

In the Crimson Bubbletear's defense, it's still really good as an invader, especially if youre using something a bit more squishy like a Rock Heart build. I know this is a mainly a pve list but i wanted to still offer a good thing about one of my favorite tears :)

The fact Opaline Hardtear does not depend on build, weapon, playstyle, or enemy instantly makes in one of the most applicable.
I typically just use Hardtear + Elemental damage booster of the weapon/spell/etc. I am currently using~
I honestly expected Crimson Bubbletear near the top. It literally makes certain one hit kills survivable, like Furnace Golem's grab or Messmer's grab. It's my go-to for boss fights. Having that safety net is really nice for all the spinning attacks and grabs you come across.

I saw the deflecting tear and said "ah, so im playing lies/sekiro now." And its so sick, I love fighting radahn 2 with this
The deflecting hardtear gave me some good memories for the Radahn fight.

Yakuza 6: the song of light
i think crimson bubble was very undervalued here, let me know what you think? It's essentially tears of denial from ds3, i.e nearly a must have for pvp and the effect is noticeable especially in invasions - don't take my word for it see high skilled pvp content creators like chasethebro or jeenine for example who use it nearly every time.
Even just considering pve, i couldnt be bothered taking it out of my strength build in and out again during my first dlc run since i blended some invasions through my progression so ive used the tear in every bossfight. its proc'd nearly every time, in my radahn fight too and is pretty much an extra heal flask - my kill on radahn was actually from the tear saving me
I think if you consider pvp, (which another tear in the video was mentioned for so it looks like pvp has some impact in the video) its ranking shoots up tremendously.

Where is ranking every fallingstar beast 😔😔
..... The windy crystal tear is an absolute treasure, I do not know how it's not more popular
Enough with the “Bro fell off” comments guys, it’s overdone and gets people nowhere
Crimson Bubble Tear is the best tear for PVP hands-down, having it so low on this list is criminal
Awesome video bro , keep it up.
*Please Wake Up , You Have Been Asleep for Too Long...*
What fell off is these comments. The meme is already dead.
@@nolongerapersonthank you i’m so tired of them
@@MixiMoxi They edited it 😂😂
@@nolongeraperson 😭😭😭
@@flamigoos4804 i like this comment now, post more of these ones.
That clip of Renalla on #4 was hilarious.
Also there's a conspicuous lack of Sekiro builds despite the top tear and I've no idea why
Bro’s character wakes up with 1000 crunches, god damn their shredded
Love the content. You are a very gifted writer.
Love the vid as always but it'd be so helpful to quickly mention the effects of the item you're ranking. I wish I had an encyclopedic knowledge of Elden Ring items like you do, but alas I don't...
Opaline Hard Tear and Winged Crystal Tear were my go-to tears for my first DLC playthrough.
I love Rusty ranking videos. I freaking live for this stuff
Wonderful video! Now rank all the evergaols
Bro phrases like “puke green miscarriage laser” is exactly the content I subscribe for!
Nice video as always, cheers from Germany
Took me a moment to realize the clip of your character drinking was modded, i was wondering why the abs looked so nice
Give us muscly women fromsoft please 😔
We don’t come here to get actual rankings. We don’t care. We are here for entertainment. Rusty is pure comedy. No gaming TH-camr is even close to as hilarious. This man’s punch lines are creative af and never miss. Def my fav content creator 💪🏽
the twiggy cracked tear and the ruptured crystal tear can make a DIY homeward bone if you really really hate a catacomb you walk into or you've wandered off somewhere in the DLC and want something more entertaining than fast traveling back to where you started
Sharpest spoon in the cerial box here, completed limgrave, weeping peninsula AND half of liurnia of the lakes without realising these were a thing on my first play through.
I feel like I’m getting Deja Vu rn
Crimson Sapping Cracked Tear would go hard with a Spinning Weapon Scythe build.
Sekiro enjoyers got an automatic win with deflecting hard tear. Imo it's the most op tear.
Edit: after watching lol i guess it was obvious
