- After all the horse trading with the 5 VW's I picked up, I ended up with a 1973 VW Thing project. Today I get everything off of it to get it ready for paint. It's a pretty simple car, but can't wait to get it painted back to original VW color "Pumpkin Orange"

Thanks... I had to put the 1962 Double cab on hold, so I could work on this. It's a lot easier project and shouldn't take too long.
The bolts on the front fire wall was for mounting for the voltage regulator
Thanks. I ended up mounting the regulator in the passenger side.
Hey I was looking on eBay at some of the things for sale and the place in the engine compartment where those bolts are there is a square silver box that looks like it says Bosh on it!! Looks like maybe a voltage regulator!!
Yes mine has a voltage regulator, it's suppose to mount to the passenger side on the body right next tot he engine. The bolts on the drivers side on the firewall are still a mystery to me (They may not even be stock honestly).
Glass side windows were never original. Thing Shop produced them as an upgrade in the early 1990s. 👌
Thanks for the info. I just know they are not cheap!! LOL!! They are very well made as if the factory made them.
@@watsonst04 I'm in England, but I just bought a 1973 Thing from Texas to ship to England. It has same windows....glass sliding also... exactly the same. Very unusual to find them on a car when they retain for nearly $2000! Well done us!!
@@andytalbot6719 yes we definitely got lucky!
Quite surprised you didn't weld new plates into those gaps cut by a P/O instead of making them bigger? Also I think as the floor is so good I would clean and underseal it to keep it that way and fit sound deadening mats!
Well I just wanted to make them look more symmetrical and I knew I was going to have two electric fans pulling in air, so figure I would be good. So far the temps have been great even with the gaps.
I discovered a (presumably) 1974 VW thing at school. It's mine now and I hope to fix it up. Nice video, it is helping a lot.
Glad it helped!
