Great video! This was one of my favorites growing up with a GBA. I was never a big fan of the original NES Metroid, but Zero Mission was a great way to play it with all the quality of life improvements and extra content!

I think it’s worth noting that the virtual console was still an emulator (as is NSO). If you want the game as originally intended then you have to play with an original cartridge. Just play this on your pc or if you’ve got some extra cash get an analogue pocket

the most recent official system that can play GBA games natively is actually a New 3DS (XL) / New 2DS which is a good choice even if you need to rip the games to play them or having been lucky getting the Ambassador pack.

Obviously it's getting more expensive as time goes on, but I'm still a little surprised you didn't mention the Gameboy Player for GameCube. I bought Metroid Fusion not too long ago, and while I haven't completed the game, I've played it exclusively on the Gameboy player. I don't think I've stuck it in my GBA or DS once. No complaints about small or dim screens here.

I was actually not a huge fan of the original NES Metroid, so this game was a nice alternative, and I enjoyed playing through it. As a huge fan of Super, it was nice to see the original get a Super-like makeover. I also own an original copy of it, DS light, Gameboy Player for GC and I have it bought on the wiiU, so I'm good to go.

When listing systems you forgot playing it through the GBA player for the GameCube. Though they are currently expensive it is another option. Also, I think there is something to be said for experiencing games on the hardware they were made for. I know not everyone likes it though. Also, GBA mods for screens or even to make them hookup to modern TVs are not hard to come by.

I actually think that Zero Mission is one of the most boring Metroid games in comparison to most other titles in the series. it's good, but its best aspect - the free roaming / slight sequence breaking is now outdated and got outmatched by Dread, and the Bosses are way too easy and simple.
