      in theory it can be done. There are reddit posts about a custom version of dolphin called dolphinVR that makes it possible, specifically with prime 3/trilogy. Unfortunately dolphinVR project shutdown years ago and is very cumbersome to setup.

    I've just started replaying Prime 2 after beating Remastered. Internal Resolution to 4K, texture pack and widescreen Gecko Code on Dolphin. It's much better than the game played in a GC as intended, but it doesn't get close to the Remastered standards. Hope these two titles get proper treatment as well. It'll be wonderful to play them a third time in full HD glory.

    This was my introduction to Metroid, and I love the motion controls to this day (even play with them on Prime Remastered).
    I do hope Nintendo keeps doing right by Metroid. The series deserves it. So, even though a simple remaster with the motion controls would be fine by me, I hope it is brought to a point where it can reach the widest possible audience.

    5:10 well they could easily put it as : push joystick to the back as pulling your arm, drawing a circle on the analog border (likle for Ryu's Hadouken for exemple) as a rotation ,etc etc.... it can easily be achieved now even tho it WILL require a new programation (but looking at what they did for Prime remastered i'm not worried at all! :) )

    Regarding the slow door load times, I also remember them being really bad, but most of my playthroughs were on the Wii trilogy version. I originally had a copy of the standalone Metroid Prime 3 disc, but I sold it when the Wii Trilogy version came out because I didn't see a point in keeping another copy of the exact same game. I remember the standalone version not being as bad with loading, but it's been so long since I played that version I can't be sure.

    It absolutely deserves a remaster! I enjoyed the f out of this game! As much as I love the original Prime I never beat it as many times as Corruption! I feel the platforming is even better, the graphics are still gorgeous, the interaction with the world was on another level and the atmosphere was top notch. The motion controls were an amazing addition. It felt so natural .
    Pretty sure in a remaster they would leave motion interactions as is with motion controls and for other duel sticks mapping all interactions to a contextual situation with a single button.
    I think you're being pretty unfair with this game. Did you actually complete prime 3?! Lol the pirates have tiers. Kind of like the Halo enemies
    Prime 3 also has the most creative combat in the series.
    Dude it would make sense that the architecture is different from what the pirates would produce. It would also make sense that there are similarities in the architecture from the Flagships to the planet. Overall I found the areas quite varied between each area on each planet.
    I feel a remaster like Prime with a few small gameplay tweeks would be amazing speeding up load times would be nice but generally I like the ship sequences. Made the game feel epic tbh

      That is right and when playing with mouse and keyboard you can play through the game without issues.
      If you are playing with a controller however...Elysia is always the point where i stop playing. You have to aim at small targets while moving on rails...i just can't play through those later sections with a controller :/
      I don't know how they could solve this issue in a Remaster.

    I've been replaying this game again for the first time in a long while on Primehacks (a modified Dolphin specifically made for the Prime games) and imo, simply speeding up the load times and the option to skip story cutscenes is all a basic remaster really needs. That and maybe update the hint system as to not try and force the story into the hints.
    Personally, I don't mind the hint system and can play with it on. I also don't think the motion controls are really all that bad. People make a huge deal out of them but in reality, the 'motion' parts of the gimmicks are all extremely basic movements. Pulling/pushing, twisting and tilting. All very basic movements which can be replicated on a joystick. Primehacks has an option which lets you map all of the motion controls to a single button, allowing you to just hold that button and watch Samus go through the motions automatically. It's super fast, but less interactive. I feel like mapping these very basic motions to an analog stick would be a very acceptable middle ground.
    I'd also personally disagree on a lot of the standard visual opinions on this. By default Primehacks doesn't do anything to upgrade the visuals of any of the prime games themselves, but can still allow you to blow up the resolution to make things more clear. I know it's mostly subjective, but having played both Prime 1 and 3 with blown up visuals, I can't help but feel Prime 3 aged better overall from a graphical point of view. If you wanted to say Prime 1 had a better art direction, I wouldn't really be able to disagree. But I do feel Prime 3 looks better overall. Obviously I would expect a remaster to overhaul the graphics as they did with the first game, but I can't say I'm expecting it. I think 3 has aged much better than 1 did graphically, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved.
    Side note: I know it's moreso a personal perspective thing, but Prime 3 always made me feel way more isolated than Prime 1. The fact that after the tutorial they make it very clear that you are on your own mixed with the fact that you spend the entire tutorial fighting with other people only to have that ripped away from you made me feel extremely alone while exploring these planets. The only friendly people on those planets are the other bounty hunters but you quickly learn just how friendly they can be. Every other living thing wants to kill you and the federation makes it pretty clear that they aren't going to help you. That mixed with the fact that you're exploring entire planets by yourself rather than just a few regions on a single planet makes me feel even more alone. Can't quite place why that is the case for me but it does.

    A lot of the QoL features you talked about can be sampled by using the dolphin emulator, (specifically the special metroid prime focused fork called Primehack). Higher res on most textures, good mouse+keyboard support/good controller support akin to typical FPS control schemes, bindable buttons to do motion puzzles for you, faster loading times, skippable cutscenes, disable bloom, automatic motion controls in combat (pulls grapple after lockon when applicable), etc... It's currently the best way to play prime 3 until an offical remaster comes out. old wiis are cheap and easy to mod for dumping your own roms. prime 3 probably isn't too hard to come by in yard sales, thrift stores, or used online, being DVD it's relatively easy to buff the scratches off a used disc.

    • @kidgen2097

      Ima be the one to say, and I said it before, that #TeamNinja and #Nintendo should've done Metroid Fusion in Metroid: Other M format, except, make the power bomb animation look like a black hole so it's a nod to the OG 2D metroid and maybe add the slide and melee feature from Dread. I appreciate Dread's newest controls and animations, the game even had interactive cutscenes midfight similar to Other M. Although, I hoped the train or elevator cutscenes showed her thoughts like how Fusion did at certain parts in the story. I honestly believe that Other M was underrated like that Dodge is OP af.. and ppl missed the point that she went through shock after shock losing almost everything she cared about while recovering from destroying Mother Brain, the first time. Even though corruption and other m had interactive npcs, she inevitably always ends up fighting alone and a Fusion remake could expound on the interactive and gruesome dynamics that the X-infected scientists, civilians, creatures, like a more sinister version and fight with Ridley, Omega Metroid, and even SA-X on a much bigger scale that I don't Dread really displayed. They looked more like ink than like gorey/warped tissue like something from Dead Space.🙏🏾🤙🏾

    I'm torn between the possibility of a remaster vs a complete remake, as getting it up to modern standards in a mere remaster would require much more effort than Prime 1 (and possibly 2, due to 3's grander scale) which is saying a lot seeing how that one turned out. If either choice is driven by quality, the line between them is thin.
    In terms of deserved-ness: I feel like 3 does, at the end of the day, deserve it (arguably more than Prime 2: A lot of that game's problems were more part of it's core and not hardware or development limitations.)

    • @Fuk99999

    A lot of people seem to overcomplicate the controls. Gestures do not typically directly control the 3d model of samus, instead the gestures are simply triggers for actions. Every action can be mapped to any trigger, including gestures, buttons, axis, etc. It's not as difficult a problem "technically" as most people think, it's a bigger problem deciding whether a specific trigger is better than another. I think this is a non-issue since they have already laid out the standard in MP Remastered by separating control modes. The obvious way is to map actions to gestures with motion controls, and then to axis and buttons with the dual stick controls. Hybrid controls will be where they may go back and forth between the two.

    Converting a lot of the motion control interactions in Prime 3 would be very easy. Some could just use the analog stick rather than a motion pointer, and other could be a single button press. I can't recall any that are super necessary to keep as actual motion controls that would be _impossible_ to just remap to a 2D plane controlled by a stick.

    Great video dude, really thoughtful commentary that I really agree with. This is the one game I really have mixed feelings on because I really do like it, but it has so many shortcomings compared to its predecessors that I also believe a simple remaster without fundamentally changing core aspects of the game would be a flop and could even negatively impact the reception to the franchise for newcomers.
    I do think the best approach is a port + upres because that comes with the expectation that it might not hold up as well as the other games (but it could still improve load times which is seriously the game's biggest offense)... but then that means we probably won't get the remaster treatment for MP2 which if done well could seriously make it the best in the trilogy ;---; pain

    • @lukerne9260
      @lukerne9260 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there is less than 1% chance Prime 2 and 3 will get the remastered treatment of the first game. It would be too much work for too little profit. People don't care about the sequels, only the first one is revered and considered iconic by most. Even combined they wouldn't sell half as much as the remastered of Prime 1. Not to mention the Switch is at the end of it's life cycle and by the time they finish Prime 2 the next console will probably already be out and that would make the remastered pointless. For Prime 3 is even more unlikely. Even the basic upscaled ports have a very low chance of happening. It they sell them separately no one will buy them, why buy a game that's just upscaled when the previous one was completely remade? So they would have to sell them together as a pack but that isn't how Nintendo likes to sell their games. They want to make the most profit possible and selling 2 games for the price of 1 isn't the best thing for them. I think that when decided to remake the first Prime they had no intention of doing the same with the other 2. They just wanted to test the waters and see how people respond to the series in 2023 and give them a taste of what it has to offer to prepare them for Prime 4. This remastered is basically a test run for Prime 4. Since they weren't recieved nowhere near as well as Prime 1, the sequels weren't taken into consideration when making Prime 4. It will use Prime 1 as a base and ignore the sequels for the most part. That's sad because I would have loved to see Prime 2 remastered with the same quality as the first since I think it's a much better game. An upscale won't even be worth buying because Dolphin exist

    While loading cutscenes of ship flying between parts of the planets are bad -- they're not even close to cutscene of going into the portal between Dark and Light world in MP2. You have to see it hundreds of times, many times -- a single room can have multiple portals, as opposed to one ship flyover for big part of the planet.

    • @senorsnipey1595
      @senorsnipey1595 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont mind the cutscene load times in P3. I dont remember any rooms in P2 with multiple portals if I'm being honest. If there are, its only a few but I agree that it gets repetitious. Even if they are shorter. Sometimes you make a mistake and have to go back through the portal you just came out of

    • @ExtremeAce
      @ExtremeAce ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's like only 1 room in the entire game with multiple portals and that is in Sanctuary Fortress for one power bomb expansion. There are max 5-6 portals in an entire area (double because dark world) so unless you are heavily exaggerating the 8 second portal cutscene which can be activated by shooting a beam or scanning a control point, it doesn't even come close to the one minute long process of sitting in your gunship, choosing a landing point, watching 3 loading screens, and then getting out, which one sequence alone is equal to the length of going through 7-8 portals. And you do that like 20 times in the entire game.

    • @senorsnipey1595
      @senorsnipey1595 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ExtremeAce im sorry but I found that I was i and out of those portals due to back tracking and errors. The frequency was annoying. Searching for those keys was more of a hassle in the GC release than the Artifacts from 1. Prime 3 had the added advantage of even more beautiful visuals and varied environments. The portals take 15 seconds vs the minute to travel between planets but that's just it. The game has a far larger scope and I appreciated the way they handled load times so seamlessly while looking amazing. These travels also followed the flow of the game in most cases compared to portal travel in Echoes. Inter planetary travel is reduced to around 30 seconds which is also fine in my books when each area is so distinct and rich with more details than echoes.

And dear god that has to be the worst argument for justifying the loading times of all things. Hell I love Prime 3's areas but that doesn't justify how long it takes to go from one point to another via your gunship. I dont think you guys will agree, but i dont think it deserves a Remaster, MP3 actually needs a remake, or even better a reboot, something that settles the characters in a better way, change the planets so they dont feel as bland, and finally the Hypermode getting some tweaks, dont get me wrong i like the bounty hunters, but we didnt even get to know them too much, MP3 is a story focused game, but we need a bit more STORY, for example, the other day i was replaying MP3 and at some point they describe Rundas as "Arrogant", but the few dialogues he says are "if only ive been there", and referering to Samus like a friend, i didnt get the Arrogant vibe, instead i got the Good guy kind of vibe, thats what i think; getting the bounty hunters corrupted so soon and early in the game doesnt help in the bulid of the loss. It's unlikely a Reboot like Modern warfare 2 or the recent Resident Evil games will happen for Metroid, i just think it's the better course of action. What do you think?

      I think that's a fair assessment, that's partially what I was getting at to some degree - certain aspects of the story and presentation would just need a major overhaul to work in a more realistic or higher fidelity version. I agree that there actually isn't too much story - only the first couple of hours and last couple of hours have significant story beyond the immediate smaller events of each planet. There isn't much in terms of character building, for example.

    Prime 3 sadly had too much to live up to. Being on a new console to try and show the hardware what it can do when the previous two games were already the best looking games on the platform they were on with the wii offering little extra. It had to close off the story which I feel it did very poorly. The entire finalé felt... rushed. Especially the final boss. The dark samus fight was cool but the followup fight with the aurora unit felt incredibly underwhelming. Of course being a relatively early wii game meant it needed to have forced motion controls. While the aiming controls were top notch it felt the need to add the mundane motion gimmicks like having to twist your wrist to turn knobs or the nunchuk flinging for the grapple beam. Then of course they wanted to be fancy by, instead of having a single planet to explore, there were multiple. On paper this sounded really cool and gave an impression that the game was massive. Sadly it's all an illusion. It's no bigger in scale and each planet feels like it's missing a lot of depth in lore and design due to the drastically reduced size of each one. Bryyo is a cool planet. But you don't get to take in enough of it. Also I don't need to mention that this makes back tracking a bit more of a nuisance.
    HOWEVER those are just the negatives. It doubled down on how bad the corruption introduced in Echoes really is (hence the name) by affecting Samus's friends as well as herself. It added a lot to the story. The controls are superb and while I think the extra motion nonsense doesn't need to be there, I wouldn't say it's intrusive. The extra utility to the grapple beam was great, the music is still top notch and the bounty hunter boss fights are some of the best in the series. Especially Gandrayda and Rundas. Also it gets extra points for being the only prime game to feature an item search to help get that 100%. It's inconvenient to get it going but at least it's there. It's still a lot of fun to play through as well.

    • @Fuk99999
      @Fuk99999 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eh. Hard disagree on Prime 2 being creative. The entire dark world idea is something Retro straight up lifted from Link to the Past because they actually communicated with Nintendo’s producers on it and the game’s general structure and loop is still basically Prime 1. I actually tend to rate it lower than both Prime 1 and 3 because the latter actually attempts some new ideas and the former all but entirely nails it right out of the gate. My biggest problems with Prime 2 are the dark world health drain mechanic and ammo function slow the pacing far too much, and this is made even worse with some fairly poorly designed levels and the endgame key hunt, which is straight up worse than Prime 1’s artifact hunt on account of Prime 1 allowing you to get almost of them as the game opens up rather than Prime 2 only allowing you to grab them once you have light suit. Now I don’t hate the game at all, but I do think Prime 2 is largely a worse Prime 1.

    I honestly begin to hate the term "Exploration" when used for Metroid Games. The only time you can "explore" is when you hunt for the extra Energy Tanks and missile upgrades.
    Other than that Metroid consists of running at closed of doors, until you find the one, correct, *linear* path. From item to item to boss. That's no exploration.
    If it weren't for the Scan entries in Prime 1 I might not have finished it.
    Prime 3 is the game that I replayed the most.
    The points below are Points in the Video I disagree with. It should be obvious. But you would be surprised how dumb a lot of adults are nowadays.
    2:23 Ah yes. The subtle, not so subtle "look how bad it is" visuals. If you can't do it in under a second at the mid to late game, you never even tried being better at this. Typical "I blame everything else, never myself" way of thinking.
    5:30 that segment is a point I can understand however. While I never had any problems with the "gimmicks", since I kept record timing myself whenever I interacted with them, I do realize why these gimmicks became annoying for others.
    Without a Story the Metroid Franchise would still be just a pathetic niche game. Retro brought a Story, Worldbuilding, lore, Characters, Factions, etc to Metroid and uplifted it on their own. Metroid Dread wouldn't have been such a success without Retro and their Prime games.
    9:23 All Metroid Games are "linear". There has never been not a linear game.
    9:48 Not a great representation for the dusty old men like you.
    11:53 Pretty manipulative of you to show the hard to see model of the flying Pirates with the weakest Prime 3 Pirate variant. Like... really? You show the Pirate Militia Unit instead of the actual Pirate Soldiers or their flying units and than claim they are all thin and gangly. Also what the hell does "stronger designs" and "more definition" actually mean?
    13:41 Of course it is Elysia. The blandest and unimaginative place of them all. Even Phaaze has more visual variety to it than the always brownish cloud world Elysia.
    14:36 Ohohoho. They "lack" the detail and thoughtfulness? Are you high? They are designed specifically to look a certain way. Norion is a Federation Military Base. It looks just like a Military Base. Or so I assume since I never was in a Sci-Fi Military. Bryyo is quite simply the best looking of them all with distinct bioms on the same world. Every world is well thought out and detailed designed.

    The motion control gimmicks were frustrating since they were too forced and became immersion breaking. Nintendo has always been big about changing core gameplay mechanics in their beloved series to force their latest gimmick on people. Never got to play Skyward Sword due to the motion controls, and lots of DS games required you to use touch, use the second screen, or blow into the microphone like an idiot... I remember my first time playing Breath of the Wild; I saw the Sheikah slate and was very worried it was another in-game gimmick to sell people on the Wii U tablet. Glad that didn't really end up being the case!

      Yes, for me Skyward Sword is the Metroid Prime 3 of Zelda. Part of me wishes Nintendo would focus less on hardware gimmicks and more on delivering their great games in a traditional console with lasting backwards compatibility. I do find the motion controls to be the best controls for the Prime series. Going back to gamecube controls for Prime 1 & 2 after Trilogy came out felt like going backwards. In fact, I wish I was able to use the wiimote and nunchuck on Prime Remastered. Yes it did have a motion control option but the joycons are too small for me. I ended up using hybrid and just moving the pro controller to aim.
    Corruption is the weakest title in the Trilogy, IMHO. I really couldn't care less if they remaster it. I'd pay big buck$ for an Echoes remaster, as it is my fav title in the trilogy. I just don't care for Corruption's dialogue and attempt to make you care about the characters. Metroid to me is about being alone, not having dialogue with other sentient creatures. And pushing, pulling, twisting levers felt so gimmicky and lame. It felt good the first time you do it, but after that it's a chore. There's also several scans that are hard to get. They're in the timed section where you have to get a certain number of Federation soldiers to a door. Missing any of these scans causes you to reset the entire game to try again. There are missable scans in the other games too, but once you know about them they are easy to get on the next playthrough. The ones in Corruption are easy to miss even if you do know about them. It's not fun.
    The ship upgrades were lame. Getting missiles for your gunship, but you can't control the gunship?? They should have just left that out.
    I did love the extras like the ship bumper stickers, the screenshot tool, etc. But to get those, you had to turn friend vouchers into friend credits?? I guess this was supposed to get you to care about having friends in your miiverse? And in the trilogy version, there wasn't even a way to do the exchange. You have to download a save file that has all the friend credits on it already. Lame.
    Also - the suits. Corruption's suits changed Samus' look very little. You felt like you were in the same suit the whole game. Compare that to Echoes, where the Dark and Light suits change Samus' look dramatically. This made Corruption's suits all the more underwhelming.

    I think Prime 3 was okay. I was the most advanced in terms of action but the game felt too linear and straightforward to me, not just in terms of level design but upgrades too. The action was the most flexible and fast-paced out of the primes and hyper mode was an okay gimmick but Prime 1 is best overall. Allow me to explain:
    Prime 3:
    - Prime 3's suits were not very good in terms of design choice. Most of them looked ugly. They actually had the worst suit designs.
    - Prime 3's beam upgrades, while efficient, were not very fun. I liked switching between beams like from the other two titles.
    - Prime 3's level design was underwhelming. The themes and environments were not very fun.
    - Prime 3's voice acting was top-notch but I felt a little alienated because I'm used to the isolated, quiet environments Samus explores, but her actually showing up before everyone dies is a good change of pace.
    Prime 2:
    - Prime 2 had better level design, but its still not my favorite. Agon was bland and boring, Sanctuary felt clunky and uncomfortable. Torvus was my favorite tho.
    - Prime 2's ammo system was a pain in the ass. The beams were gimmicky too.
    - Many of Prime 2's assets were just recycled from Prime 1, such as enemies, beam types, etc. but it still brought a lot of new things to the table.
    - The Seeker Missile/Screw attack were nice upgrades.
    - The visors' interfaces were uncomfortable and ugly.
    Prime 1:
    - My favorite level design out of all the primes. All the levels stood out and were very flavorful.
    - It was also the scariest Prime, with Space Pirate attacks and Chozo ghost sightings being terrifying. Freeing the Talon Metroids to kill them was a lot of fun.
    - The beams were awesome and they were unlimited! I loved freezing enemies with the Ice beam, shocking them with the wave beam and disintegrating them with the plasma beam.
    - The visors were interesting.

    Agree with many of your points. I love the first two Primes... the first one is still up there as quite possibly my favourite ever game. Prime 3, while still good, is just so far below the standard set by the first two for me. It felt too much like it was trying to take notes from what was popular at the time rather than focusing on what Metroid does so well, and definitely tried too hard to be accessible to more casual markets.
    Too linear, too many gimmicky hand-holdy motion elements thrown in, an excruciating first hour or so with awkward cutscenes that didn't feel like they fit in a Metroid game, an art style that somehow looked worse than games on weaker hardware, painfully long loading times, too much constant nagging from the Aurora unit, and a combat system too heavily built around the hypermode mechanic so enemies simply became bullet-spongy in lieu of actually being difficult to fight. I certainly don't hate the game, and there's some great stuff sprinkled throughout; I love much of Elysia, and discovering the lore around Bryyo's tragic downfall is brilliant. It just felt like a such step down after how great its predecessors had been, and too much of it felt like a slog. I hope Prime 4 returns to the more traditional format of Primes 1 and 2.

    Poor retro studio’s, Nintendo severely underpays them, yet profits millions off their character “Samus Aran”

    Wait, you can’t even travel to different biomes on a single planet organically? That’s lame.

    I was a huge fan of Metroid Prime back in the day. I enjoyed 2, but haven't retained many memories of it. I started playing 3 but just set it down one day and never came back. Playing Metroid Prime: Remastered has been great, but has also made me wish a non-Nintendo-owned "spiritual successor" series would have taken the baton after 2007.

    I find it interesting how I find Prime 3 as the low point in the Prime trilogy. Too many npcs, too much hacky control changes to make the Wii remote work with it, no beam changing, it just didn't feel right. This is coming from someone who played Prime 1 and 2 first when they were released. I think a lot of people who love it may not have played the first two beforehand.

    Nah, this one can stay at home. Only Prime 2 needs to come home.

    I personally think Prime 3 is the weakest of the three as it drifts farthest away from the isolation and claustrophobia elements of the Metroid series. That being said, being the weakest of one of the best game trilogies burned to laser disc means it’s still an amazing game. It does motion control better than any other game on the Wii’s library, its visuals are staggeringly impressive for an SD console (I strongly disagree with you on the cinematics and animations not holding up, I see nothing wrong with them, and still found them perfectly natural on a resent repeat playthrough) it does some amazing world building for the Prime continuity, and Sky Town and Pirate Homeworld are two of the greatest settings in the whole Metroid franchise. All three Prime games are 9.X/10 games, and all three deserve the same remaster, although I have a feeling if we do get 2 and 3 it’s more likely going to be just an HD upscale and not a full modernization like Prime got.
