Big bang exists and you can get fever in boss raids so it’s fully programmed in so it’s stupid you can select it in options (seriously options in this game can be so annoying some options can only be selected in that game if both players are playing puyo but only offline these setting are always accessible online for some reason?)

Do the character specific messages like “goes for fever” actually mean anything in fever? I know it meant something in the original fever, but does it still make a difference in champions?

The characters have different chaining powers for big chains and small chains, inside and outside of Fever. The messages are a suggestion for how you should play the character.

If I remember correctly, ‘uses small chains’ means their small chains are strong, but bigger chains are weak. ‘Aims for big chains’ means their bigger chains are stronger. ‘Big chains or nothing’ means that they are *way* stronger with big chains, but their small chains do almost nothing. ‘Aims for fever’ means the character’s 1-chains are weak, allowing them to enter fever easily, while ‘reverses fever’ means they are stronger in fever.
