Making a mountain out of a molehill... heh? I'm just glad to see his color/composition has improved; the technical skill was always there, but... yeah. It's a journey.
I know you may never read this, but quite frankly, your videos have always been somewhat of a relaxing timeout for me. They simply dispel my anxieties, my stress, my sadness and inspire me to shoot more film and do what I've always wanted to. Thank you a lot. You help me more than you'd ever know (and btw, I love the upgraded cinematography and quality of your videos, keep on shooting 🙌)
Is no one gonna talk about how this place is literally sandy shores in GTA 5... The road to the beach gave it away immediately. Amazing video as always broski, Making me want to cop a Mamiya 7 more and more

This is the "traditional" Willem type of video. It's so inspiring, so beautiful. Honestly it was this type of work that made me go try film, I'm really really thankful for that and still enjoying every single one of those amazing videos.
Just commented the same thing and I had to look through the comments to see if anyone else saw what I saw lol I also noticed you're shooting film too so I subscribed!
AHHH YES the famous Bombay Bech Drive In. Epic. The liquor store... a classic everyone that has gone there has shot... this channel rocks. Great job and thanks for taking us lurkers along.
Okay, the day light shots were incredible but when the lights go down....Boooy the heat went up! The fact that theres still working neon signs out there just blows my mind!
Favorite shots are the Bombay beach drive in shot at 3:40, those pops of red cars mixed with the sign color and the composition is perfect. Also, the teal Opera sign and the teal building with the Winnebago in between at 11:40 is real nice! Great video man, very inspiring and chill.
Im from North Shore and the gas station at the beginning of the video shut down about 13 years ago. It's crazy to see how people react when they pass by the towns south of the Coachella valley. Love the video!
Your videos are a great source of writing inspiration for me. I just let them play and write music to the visuals of you discovering these special places. Can't thank you enough, cheers!
Whoa, Willem. Phenomenal photos. Both in the daylight and the insane nighttime shots of that church. Loving this series. As an aside, how Californian's revere and treat their cars and art differently than NYC folks is a never ending fascination to me. ✌️
Check out the inside of the building next to the Drive In next time! There’s also a couple of other trailers in the town that you can walk into that are art installations. If you love Bombay Beach, hit up East Jesus and Salvation Mountain the next time you go! It’s not that far from Bombay and there’s tons of shooting opportunities there as well.
Beautiful shooting session. There's nothing wrong about shooting old cars as long as there are good pictures. And you do it very well. This format as a great value because we have the opportunity to guess the pictures we'd shoot and compare our choices to yours. The church's night pictures are fantastic.
12:24 .. Question: Did you meter using the Sekonic 308? You slided the light sphere on the 308 away from the light sensor and measured the ambient light?
i recommend checking out salvation mountain a lil more east of there but definitely one of my favorite places to shoot only a hour and a half away for me!
I've used Icon for many years, but back in the day there were many labs to choose from, A&I was my favorite. The scans are too expensive, so I use an Imacon scanner, better than any flatbed, but not as good as a drum scan, but up to size 40x30 with 6x7 film, you can't tell the difference. Are you going to show are sell your work in LA?
Dude I've been watching you're videos for only a week or two, I love them and I've been watching alooot of your videos. I was looking at your videos right now and saw this video of you in Belgium and then I noticed the freaking french frie restaurant we go to sometimes, picco bello in the haldertstraat lmao. I live like 5 min away from the place. Keep on the amazing work! greetings from Belgium
i watch 98% of videos i watch on youtube in 2.25x speed with a chrome extension, but Willem's one of the few channels i watch in normal speed to take it alllll in.
I went to the Leica store in Boston, the person I talked to asked me about how I got into film photography, and when I said your name he made it seem like that might’ve been a common answer for him to hear lol
Great video. I go to LA every year. My friend lives in Sherman oaks. I plan on tracking out there. Looking forward to seeing where else you go for ideas for me
Great video, and I really enjoy your photographs! But keep in mind, and for anyone reading this that might go to Bombay, that people do live there! I saw both of my mom and sister's places in this video. When I was there last weekend having coffee with my family, I was pretty startled and annoyed to see two guys walk straight up to the fence to take pictures of my sister's place, much like you did in this video. If you see cars in the driveway, maybe go knock and ask, I'm sure it would be appreciated!
The colors were awesome and you got a lot of great images. Glad you didn't broadcast this on smellivision. I have heard from others about that aspect of the location.
A cheap film lab that I absolutely love here in SoCal is Pro Photo Connection! The pricing for their development and scans are always worth the drive out to Irvine imo! Loved the video and the absolutely insane photos as always!
Painters always think light first too. It is everything, actually. It is the subject, as you so correctly point out. Your videos are fascinating to watch. I am a poet, not an artist. But artists are like family to me. Keep it alive, brother. You are doing a great job. Peace.
Went out to Sultan City around August of last year; looks like I should have gone to Bombay Beach lol. Great vid man! You still gotta make your way out to Sultan City though for the obligatory film photograph of the old organ sitting out on the beach!
This is like a documentary. The production quality has skyrocketed dude

Was gonna say just that but then thought that Sandy Shores was probably inspired by Bombay Beach
yea what I meant
First thought I had, and with every part of the town we got to see, it became more accurate!

This video is sooooo good! Loving all the warm tones. The shot at 10:02 has to be my favorite. I know the golden hour anxiety too well lol

Suuuuch a good video, I really had to pause at 13:36 to sit and contemplate for a while lol
Probably the best photos I've seen come out of salton sea, with some of your best shots to date. LA is treating you right.
Same as what everyone else is saying, production quality has gone crazy with these last few videos! Really great stuff
Im from North Shore and the gas station at the beginning of the video shut down about 13 years ago. It's crazy to see how people react when they pass by the towns south of the Coachella valley. Love the video!
I'm loving this series. Actually, it's inspiring me to start learning how to use my old camera.
Great video
That shot with the old red Corvette (at least I think that's what it was) next to the drive in sign was awesome!
Me : "How much warmth is too much warmth?"
Willem :"Yes"
the other side of the saltonsea is also worth checking out, more residential with an almost otherworldly beauty, more organic imho
Dude. Been watching you since the beginning. The quality in this one was beautiful
ah i love photography, i'm envious of the places you have in the states, everything looks so vintage and incredible.
12:24 *takes absolute banger*... "right, I think the better angle is over here for sure" 🤯 🤯 🤯
12:46 *takes four or five more absolute bangers*... 😳😳😳

so much fun Willem! The light towards the end was stunning & a wide of that drive in would have been sick!
Love this new series! It's great just watching your photography process, on scenes that you are interested in shooting.
Big agree on light being the subject. I'll take a picture of literally anything if the light is right.
what an awesome spot to venture out to. great work, that 13:34 image is phenonemal!
The colours, shooting and editing of this video is straight gawjus. Also William is looking more and more like Murdoch from Gorillaz every day
Crazy to see how different his shooting style is. It almost frustrates me sometimes with the sort of random uncomposed shots.
the picture at 13:35 .. oh my god so cool
That ones my favorite
14:41 your headphones are on backwards lol
Lots of love from Australia bro. Huge fan of your work!
The bluehour shots made me bawl my eyes out damnn and cant help but replay to see those compositions too
