Class II elastics work by recessing the maxilla while moving the mandible forward. Over time, the bite improves but the face becomes flat and forward growth is either stunted or reversed. Orthodontic treatment can be great, but know what you're getting, and do some research. Most orthodontists do not care for you to achieve an aesthetic face, and only care for you to have straight teeth, so make sure you talk with them about what YOU want. This is why SOMETIMES (not all the time) you see people getting molars/premolars removed for braces. They may end up with straight teeth, but the consequences of a recessed jaw and terrible forward growth are pretty much indisputable. Not only does it tank your confidence, it significantly interferes with daily life as it introduces problems such as sleep apnea, mouth breathing, difficulty breathing, etc. Class II retractive treatment (i.e with power chains and elastics) doesn't cause this kind of trauma, but it almost certainly will mess with your craniofacial development, so be aware.
@@ryderalley4853thanks for the reply tho, you randomly reminded me of this, didn't even have my braces on 10 months ago, now I've had them for like 9 months and have been wearing elastics as shown in the video since november lol, can't wait to get my braces off in the summer 🔥🔥
Back, It has been exactly ONE YEAR since I got my braces on, I am still wearing my class 2 elastics as shown in the video and my Ortho said I have about 4 months left of my treatment
I can't believe how many stupid comments I'm reading. How do they care so much about aesthetics over a good bite? (Since one thing leads to another) In the video, What you perceive as "mewing" is a gapped bite, probably lip incompetence, and trouble biting with the front teeth. In the second case, post elastics, you can see a normal, passive closing of the mouth, in which you do not have to force your lips and you will not have to go around taking in air involuntarily. This is what a proper bite should be like. If you get to that point and feel like you're missing a jaw, my friend, you've always had a jaw missing (in fact, you can clearly see it in the video, I didn't have much of a chin before) and that can be corrected with surgery. A chin implant or chin advancement. BUT DON'T KEEP BITING BADLY, THIS CAUSES MANY TMJ PROBLEMS, UNNECESSARY DENTAL WEAR, AND POOR QUALITY OF LIFE EVEN WHEN SLEEPING.
@@alesiodagostino4740Bruh, Don't be misinformed. Even after jaw surgery or maxilla surgery, you are forced to wear elastics, it is practically mandatory.
To answer your question, yes, elastics are effective, but potentially not in the way you think. Anecdotally, you can feel your teeth retract slightly if you wear them all the time and miss one day. I just wanted to let you know that your kid saved herself from the worst decision she would have ever made in her life. Recessive treatment, aka extracting teeth, is an absolutely despicable "treatment" that some orthodontists propose.
How are you doing with that? I also received that instruction two weeks ago, I have the bite just like in the picture, and I go every day to look in the mirror to see if everything is closing already 🥲

My kid didn't agree for teeth removal so her dentist started elastic
Are they effective?
No, teeth extraction will destroy their profile. They need jaw surgery. Elastic wear will also destroy their profile.
