    Summer before 8th grade and remember spending this weekend at a beach house camping with friends and hearing 'Cherish' and loving it right away. That 'Talk it Over in Bed' song also brings back memories. Just now learned the artist's name.

    I want to thank you for doing a top 100 chart for this particular weekend. August 19, 1989 was the first time I flew on a plane flying home from summer camp from NY to FL. August 21st was my first day in high school. I was never interested in pop music until I hung out with my cousin in the summer of 1989. So many of my all time pop favorites are on this list. 31 years later and I still can remember so much of that weekend.

    The weekly charts are by far the best, there is nothing like it on facebook (yearly charts are more common) and are incredible photographs of moments in time. Fantastic.

    Well.. notice how various genre of music back then? With pop and rock music still dominated the chart... Comparing to today's music..

      Yea little to no diversity in genres now

      But like todays music it all sounded the same. It was until the 90s and 2000s where you get a nice variety of sound and style in the charts.

    Wow, I forgot how fast the turnaround was for songs in 1989 and the next couple of years. Madonna's Express Yourself peaked at #2 in just 10 weeks, and 2 weeks later, it's back-to-back with the Hot Shot Debut, Cherish, at #36 and #37. It's a tragedy those two didn't go to #1. Madonna, and now Taylor Swift, have the record for most #2 songs, with 6 apiece.

    • @donaldshelton986

      But now Madonna is a fruit loop. SHE talks about the great equalizer while she is in the bathtub....pathetic

    This is a fantastic mix of pop, dance music, hair metal, hard rock, rap, and straight out rock ‘n’ roll. This is why the 80s were great

    I had just turned 11. I remember Batdance and On Our Own were everywhere due to Batman and Ghostbusters II being the huge movies to see that summer. I loved Bobby Brown, Bon Jovi, and Paula Abdul in particular!

    OK, so this is the year (1989) that Traveling wilburys vol. 1 came out and not one of their songs are in this list WTF. How do you not mention these greats Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty collaborating? Imagine being in the room where they recorded their songs together 🤩

    #77: "Into The Night", from Benny Mardones are from 1980, not 1989. It was #11 in the Pop Charts.

    • @MrShortWhiteGuy
      @MrShortWhiteGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was a re-release. Same thing for Whitesnake's "Fool For Your Loving." Peaked at #53 on 9/13/80 and peaked at #37 on 12/23/89. "Into The Night" peaked at #11 on 9/6/80 and #20 on 7/1/89. Often the re-releases are caused by a song in a movie ("Unchained Melody" in 1990) or an artist will re-release a song when they have new found popularity (Paula Abdul's "Knocked Out" in 1990 which originally charted in 1988).
