BTS is 7 very different, talent artists, over 11yrs in music industry (2 of them made music even before BTS). They have 300+ (400+?) songs, solos, units, collabs, (allso japanese, english), singles, solo albums, OSTs (original soudtrack to movie/serie)... BTS has variety shows, dance practice, award shows, behind making MVs, docu series (Disney+, Prime video)... they have been involved their music (and careers) from begining (what was/still is quite rare in k-pop). Among ARMY, there is a saying that BTS finds you when you need them the most in your life. :)
If you enjoy various genres of music, you have come to the right place. :)
BTS is consisting of three rappers and four vocalists. And all seven of them are excellent dancers. They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members are participating in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance, these three songs were released in English to give positive energy to people around the world during the pandemic caused by Covid-19. :)
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English.
If you're interested in BTS' other songs, I highly recommend the music video and live performance of Spring Day and Mic Drop.
These two songs are totally different from each other, and you can feel the diversity of their music.
And I'd like to introduce the story of the iconic trilogy that led them to a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
I think it would be good to follow the story line.
DNA: Joy of fateful love → Fake Love: Realizing that love was a lie → IDOL, The Truth Untold, Epiphany, Answer Love Myself: To love other people completely, you should love yourself first.
These are included in Love Yourself Trilogy.
The leader of BTS, RM's speech at the UN cannot be missed. He was only 24 years old at the time!
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative.
It will also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :)
They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there're quite a few of their over 300 songs that suit your taste. :)
Oh, if you're interested in their lives, I'd like to recommend these two videos. :)

    th-cam.com/video/PtaP4UkZKyc/w-d-xo.html
Suga couldn't participate in the performance due to rehabilitation after his shoulder surgery, but this is one of the masterpieces.
And I think it's going to be copyrighted, but I'd like to introduce their one live performance that shows that BTS is an artist living in reality.
    BTS - Am I Wrong
    th-cam.com/video/LwlYEB7qpNo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6obCNmoHsmm8Zz_h
This video is provided with English subtitles.
Am I Wrong's lyrics are quite political and socially critical.
The lyrics of the song directly quoted a Korean politician as saying, "The people are dogs and pigs." (It means that the public is ignorant, so they in the high class just have to throw them some food and gossip and just keep them alive.)
Here is the lyrics video. :)
BTS (방탄소년단) - Am I Wrong (Color Coded Lyrics)
    th-cam.com/video/pV6jpkbWHj0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IfFXW9AwG1P-h5ra
When BTS released this song (2016), Park Geun-Hye, the former president of South Korea, was the daughter of a dictator, and she also attempted dictatorship through media control.
BTS staged this performance a day after a media outlet revealed that the Park Geun-Hye government had blacklisted and penalized artists who criticized the government and did not listen to them.
And it also aired hours before the first candlelight vigil to impeach the Park Geun-Hye government.
Not only Am I Wrong, but because BTS released many songs criticizing Korean society(ex. Silver Spoon, Dope, Spine Breaker, etc...), many ARMYs and even other fandoms were worried that they would be blacklisted.
Since this was before BTS became a global star, the act could have been very dangerous for them. Nevertheless, they did this at the risk of being blacklisted.
Oh, the former president, Park was finally impeached in 2017, by the way. :)
Actually, BTS members have gone into 18 months of military service under Korean law. And they are constantly releasing songs they worked on before joining the army to entertain their fans even though they are serving in the military. 😭
After releasing a collaboration single, The Astronaut, with Coldplay, Jin, the oldest member, already enlisted about 15 months ago and is currently serving as an assistant in the Korean Army boot camp under Korean law.
And J-Hope joined the military about 11 months ago after releasing his solo album Jack In The Box and collaborating with J.Cole. J-Hope is also serving as an assistant to the Korean Army boot camp in a different unit from Jin. And on March 29 this year, his OST album, Hope on the Street, which features six songs, was released along with a documentary of his passion for dance as one of BTS' main dancers and dance leader. :)
Suga released his solo album, D-Day, last year, and he sold out all of his world tours and ended successfully, and he joined the army, last September 22.
And V and RM joined the army on December 11, and Jimin and Jungkook joined the army together on December 12.
RM ,the leader of BTS, released his solo album, INDIGO, and another album will be released after joining the army.
Jimin released his first solo album, Face, last year, and the title track of the album, Like Crazy, became the first Korean male solo artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100.
V released his solo album, Layover, last September, and after joining the army, he recently appeared in the music video for Korean female solo singer IU's new song 'Love Wins All'. And recently, his digital single, FRI(END)S, was released.
Jungkook, the youngest member, sang "Dreamers" in the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and his single "Seven" released last July became the second Korean male solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, and released his first solo album, GOLDEN.
Due to their military duty, BTS briefly stopped working on a group they had been working on for eight years, and have been focusing on solo work for the past year.
They promised their fan base, ARMY that each of them will grow further through solo projects and come back together in 2025 after completing their military service.
70 days from now, on June 12, Jin will return from the military, and J-Hope will also return to our side on October 17. Jin and J-Hope, who will be discharged first, will entertain ARMY until the other five members return in June 2025. :)
You can watch videos of their enlistment day on their official channel, BANGTANTV, and see the seven of them filled with trust and love. :)
Lastly, I think this video is the best to understand each BTS member. ;)

hi, this is one of 3 fully English songs they released during the pandemic to cheer us up.
They look pretty young but they mostly on their late 20s, a couple are are on their early 30s.
BTS are at the moment serving their mandatory military service (South Korea) they already signed a new contract so they will reunite in 2025. ARMY (BTS fandom) are eagerly waiting for them and hopefully a world tour (the ticket sale is gonna be a blood bath).
    I would strongly recommend
    Black Swan (music video)
Magic Shop (there is no music video so watch the live performance with Eng subs)
    Mic Drop (music video)
    Spring Day (music video)

Their ages range between mid 20's to early 30's. Their music is extremely diverse and they write, compose and produce most of their own songs.

The first singer you see is Jungkook (bedroom) he is the youngest at 26y, the next singer is RM (record store) he is one of the 3 rappers in the group he is also the leader and main English speaker for the group he is 29y, then the next singer is the seconed of the 3 rappers JHope (restaurant) he is 30y, next singer is Jimin (doughnut shop) he is one of the 4 vocalist had is 28y, then it’s V (dynamite ice cream van) a visual and vocalist he is also 28, then it’s the final of the 3 rappers Suga (basketball court) he is 31, then it’s Jin (in the brown clothes as the group sing) he is the eldest and is a visual and vocalist he is 31.
I grew up listening to heavy metal and punk, personally for me I like their hip hop style songs more like Mic Drop, Danger, We are bulletproof, No more Dream, War of hormone, and Fire. You might find those more rocky hip hop but BTS (BanTan Sonyeondan) have all different styles and songs. You don’t find BTS, BTS finds you when you need them the most, they have meaning in their songs and most if not all of their music videos and correct English translation CC lyrics, I’m sure you could search for Portuguese CC or any CC language of your preferences. Most languages outside of Korean and English are translated by ARMY native speakers in the language to make BTS more accessible for people who can’t speak English or understand Korean. ARMY is BTS fan base and we are a wide range of culture, age, gender, ethnicity and we are friendly and willing to help spread BTS love whenever we can. I hope you enjoy the music BTS put out and I’m sure you will find a style of theirs you like most.

I LOVE "Dynamite", but it is not representative of the majority of their discography. First, "Dynamite" was not written or produced by the guys (which they do for the most of their songs), but was recorded and released during the pandemic to be something upbeat and happy for people to sing and dance along to during a shitty time. MJ is a huge influence to the guys. Taj Jackson even reacted to this when it first came out and thanked BTS for doing such an amazing tribute to his uncle; he said MJ would have loved them. :)
Also, as amazing as their MVs and studio versions are, they REALLY SHINE in their live performances. These guys were BUILT for the stage; it's where they truly love to be. Keep in mind that when they are performing live, they are singing and rapping LIVE WHILE DANCING! Yes, they will use backing tracks for a fuller sound or for the repetitive parts so they can focus on the lead vocals, but their mics are always hot.

Only 24 % of the fans are in the 20’s or under it. The great majority is above 30,40,50’s. BTS is not the “ regular” K-pop group. They write their own songs, various genres, produce them and there is great quality in their artistry and meaningful lyrics. They wrote 3 songs to just cheer people up because of the pandemic. I suggest you watch a GUIDE To BTS by Taylor. It is very informative and you are going to understand how special each member is. They got a lot of references , listen to everything. I remember watching this video back in late 2020 & early 2021, and how it did exactly what they wanted it to do-cheer us up during the rough times of the pandemic.
Only after watching Butter (from May 2021) about 50 times did I click on the MV for Mic Drop.
I was utterly hooked. That song and video made me an instant lifelong fan.
BTS & all the solo artists have a massive catalog, so you have much to explore.
Mic Drop is killer. Since you like Rock, I’d watch the dance practice video for Run BTS (there is no MV for that song).
JHope’s solo song MORE should also be up your alley. He headlined the final night of Lollapalooza in 2022, and it was epic.
For other K-artists, I’d check out Stray Kids & Ateez.
So much for you to discover enjoy!!

Welcome to BTS and ARMY (BTS fandom name). Thank you for reacting to BTS. Even more wonderful is when you realise BTS is not a typical boyband. There are 7 members - 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They all sing, dance, rap, write, compose, and produce, and their music covers multiple genres. If you like rock you make like their group songs Fake Love and Run BTS, or one member's solo (J Hope) called More. To see the diversity of their music, I recommend Ugh! (rap) by the rapline, House of Cards (jazz) by the vocal line, Airplane Part 2 (Latin pop), and On: Kinetic Manifesto for their dance. Just know that all 7 members are really talented so their solo works are also incredible and very diverse but they come together perfectly as a group. And live performances are unbelievable. They are better live than in the studio. They sing/rap live, no lip synching, whilst doing their intense choreography. Can't wait to follow your journey 💜

This is the pop, non serious songs released during the pandemic to cheer up their fans. I generally recommend their non-English songs as you get a true flavor of the group. They cover all types of genres with their music. They write , produce or coproduction their songs. Heavily involved in their music. They are amazing.

I've been with the boys since christmas of 2016 when they released their wings album and Blood Sweat and Tears made it into a Hannibal fanvid (don't ask - just know the aesthetic was on point). They started as teenagers in 2013, but they are now in their 20-30s yo.
They are super talented. Each member are so different from each other, yet all are talented in their own right. They are all songwriters and producers. They are a full package: singing, dancing, performing, great personalities, etc. That's why they are a powerhouse! And their brotherhood is so lovely to watch, they love each other so much.
Their discography are extensive and really good. They are one of the most productive artist out there with more than 20 albums, in Korean and Japanese. They started up as a hiphop group, but over 10 years period, they also do various musical genres.
Dynamite, Permission To Dance, and Butter are their fully English songs. These English trilogy are released during the pandemic to help people cheer up, so the lyrics are all upbeat and happy. The usual BTS songs are deeper in lyrics and lots are carrying important and profound messages like love yourself, mental-health, social injustice, etc.
    Welcome to the bora-world!

Oi!

English because covid affected the whole world and english is spoken by more people than korean. Best songs are in korean and they also have Japanese albums. Rap, try BTS AGUST D DAECHWITTA .. First, your English is really good! You have a great accent and your speech is fluid. You're doing great, keep going!
Second, they have 3 fully English songs (Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance). The rest is mostly in Korean, but they have subtitles available for the majority.
Also, they are a boy band - technically - but they're not a "boy band". You mentioned NSYNC and stuff...well, they're not like that at all. They make different genres of music, they produce, they write, they dance. They write about important topics like mental health, self love and self worth. They are closer to MJ than NSYNC.
They are *not* teenagers. They age from 31yo to 26yo. They aged from 27yo to 22yo in Dynamite. They started their career in 2013.

    Zizi K. said on 6/23/21
Kpop is not a genre actually, it's an industry because groups can choose whatever genre they want. I know you can listen to like one or two songs from a singer or group and get the gist of their sound but with BTS, their discography is so varied that you need to listen to a variety of the music to get who they are.
    Rayna said on 1/29/22
The first thing to understand is, that "K-Pop" is not really just a genre, it's more a whole industry..
As SUGA (one of the BTS members) once said:
"I’m a little careful to talk about K-pop as a genre, because I don’t want to be defining Kpop as a genre. I’m a little bit wary of that, but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be ‘integrated content.' K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.”
BTS is more than just K-Pop.
There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in BTS.
Also I recommend you some songs, that show their diversity:
    - ON Kinetic Manifesto Film (Music Video)
    - Blood, Sweat & Tears (Music Video)
    - Blue & Grey (MTV Unplugged)
    - Dis-ease (Lyric video)
    - Magic Shop (Live)
    -Run BTS (dance practice)
    only the rapline:
    - Outro: Tear (Live)
    - UGH (Lyric Video)
    - Cyphers 1-4 (Lyric Video) & Cypher Medley
    only the vocal line:
    - The Truth Untold (Live)
    - House of Cards (Live)
    - Dimple (Live)
I was also never a boyband kinda girl... My taste is/was more stuff like Disturbed, Papa Roach, Flogging Molly etc., until I found them and I'm so glad I did.
    😁👍💜

They are the biggest band in the world.
    Here an overview about BTS:
BTS (in Korean "Bangtan Sonyeondan" means Bulletproof Boyscouts) consists of three rappers and four vocalists. All seven of them are excellent dancers. The fandoms name is ARMY.
Here is the list of their names:
    RM - leader, main rapper
    Jin - visual, vocals
    SUGA - lead rapper
Jhope - dance leader, main dancer, rapper
Jimin - main dancer, lead vocals
V - visual, vocals, lead dancer
JK - main vocals, lead dancer
They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members participate in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English. (Please turn on the subtitles while watching).
If you're interested in BTS's songs, here is a list of them:
    Mic Drop
    Fake Love
    FIRE
    DNA
    Spring Day
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative. BTS are famous for their deep and meaningful lyrics. They have written almost 95% of their songs from their discography.
BTS offers a wide range of genres when it comes to their music. As a group they are explosive but they are also individually amazing in their different style of music. They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there are quite a few of their over 300 songs that suit your taste. :) They have numerous world records to their names.
Another song I recommend is "Run BTS". Their is no official MV for this one, they have a dance practice video and their live performance from their free Busan concert.
Lastly, I think this video is the best to understand each BTS member. ;)

I would love to watch more of BTS reactions on your channel.
I hope you enjoy their whole discography.
P.S: As of 12th of December 2023 all the members of BTS have enlisted for military service.

It's funny to me that you said it had 80s and 90s references. I am in my 60s and and saw all the 70s references. Only the most recent BTS songs are in English, most are a combination of Korean and English, with some Japanese. If you put on the close caption you will get the English translation in almost every song. Just remember that everything doesn't translate exactly. For some of there songs it can be helpful to get videos that can help decipher some of the cultural references. Their songs come in the form of diverse genres and it makes it hard to say "that is BTS's sound." I would recommend listening to Black Swan, Mic Drop, Idol, Silver Spoon (Baepsae), Not Today, Spring Day and Save Me. There are also songs by just the rap line like Ugh, Cyphers 1-4, and Ddaeng as well as songs with just the vocal line like Dimple and my absolute favorite The Truth Untold. There are also solo songs by all the members of BTS. I hope you will continue down the BTS rabbit hole. Those of us who are ARMY will be happy to follow you down.

BTSis more than Kpop, They have songs in allgenrees. Dynamite is one of their 3 English songs. It was released during thhe pandemic to cheer up their fans. They aren't teens, when this came out they were in mid to late 20s. Most of their songs combine English and Korean, and they have some in Japanese also. If you are interested in hearing more of their music, watch he Festa Room 2021. They do snippets of a song from each album from 2013 to 2021. There also intro videos to learn more about the 7 members and their early struggles. Theey have songs that are just bops, like Dynamite and Butter. And they also sing about mental health, learning to love yourself, songs to comfort. A few flex songs in reply to their detractors. Their fans are called ARMY and are all ages, all sexes, and orientations. We can be overwhelming some times, because we are passionate about the members and their music. They sound even better live

Don’t feel like your English is bad - you’re doing a GREAT job 😊 I too favour rock and metal, but BTS is my absolute exception to that rule. The music they create is art - it contains important messages and most importantly, they make it with love and appreciation for the people that helped them get to where they are. I call it Soul Music - it moves me in a way I never thought possible, it’s healing, it’s beautiful, they are just absolutely magical. There is a reason they have a fan base as large as they do and it isn’t just to do with their music - we legitimately need more people in the world like these guys, they are exceptional human beings and they should be protected at all costs. ARMY collectively, would give them the universe if it was possible 💜
