Thanks for your question Jeff. The Alnico 2 bridge pickup is similar to the Porter Smooth Bridge, but underwound 5% and measures out in the 8.7-8.9K range. It's not a "weak" pickup, however the character is much different than the G&L or Duncan JB. Upper end clarity is greatly improved, and while there is ample treble response it's more refined and not sharp or spiky. The midrange response is more balanced and less dark, and being mounted near the bridge you still get good attack qualities but with better bass response. It's what we like in a humbucker: Full sounding, but with lots of clarity, detail, and ringing harmonics.
Hi Jeff - G&L used the JB until around 2015, and compared to the Porter it is a higher output pickup with a stronger midrange bump to drive pedals and a sharp high end attack. The Porter pickup most equivalent to our old Porter kit is the Classic Smooth humbucker, which is Alnico 2. This gives a sweeter high end, a little looser feel and less midrange emphasis. We think it works better with a bolt-on, longer scale guitar.
The Fallout comes with conventional construction pickups not MFD's. Our Porter set is also conventional construction, but we were looking for a better balance neck-to-bridge. Thanks for asking - Gordon
Blame it on the guitar player maybe. The main difference between the Porter set and the G&L pickups is in the bridge pickup. The Porter bridge is a little leaner with less midrange emphasis. The neck pickups are fairly similar. Thank you for the feedback.
Thanks for the work. I prefer de caratere with the OEM G&L Pickups.
Do you sell OEM G&L pickups please ?
I have a Fallout, and think it's a 2014. Anyway, it came with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge. How does the Porter compare?

Why didn't you like the MFD pickups?

No offense, but these sound pretty muddy.
The OEM G&L pickups that came in my USA Fallout sound much cleaner.
