We (Pompey) got relegated after one season but at least we drew and beat Scummers (Southampton).

Nightmare season watching that lot run away with the title; whilst we floundered around in 2nd place, but miles behind.

scherben totally agree we might have been 2nd but you never sensed we would actually win it. The fact that we finished 9 points behind Liverpool said it all. Mind you the bank holiday game at anfield was fun!!

The famous 10-1 game...I think Malcolm MacDonald was Huddersfield manager at the time & at his press conference said "the 9th goal was a mile off side and we didn't get much help from the referee today" - classic

If Huddersfield had taken all their chances in that game though they would have only lost 10-2.Great upload when football was proper (pre-premier league) heavy pitches the long ball, scrappy goals, long distant shots, keeper howlers no diving, terracing, decent atmospheres, the league cup being played as a prestigious cup competition without making 10 changes from the previous league game and probably only 4 or 5 quid to get in on a saturday at the "PROPER" time of all 3pm kick-offs, not like nowadays where there can sometimes be 7or 8 different kick-off times. Worst thing that ever happened to football was the premier league and sky tv and the change in format of the european cups and all seater stadiums , not forgetting more ENGLISH PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Bring back terracing and give football back to the working man instead of it being a society day out for the rich who couldn't tell you a thing about football, just that they were there drinking champers and eating smoked salmon and talking about how wonderful their 2.4 children are in their detetched house in the select parts of the city in which they live. Rant over, cheers!!!!!

The "Maine Road Massacre" - the last time that one team has scored 10 goals in a Football League match.
Oxford United and Luton Town certainly gave their fans value for money when they played each other - 18 goals combined in both games.

Graham Clayton Am I right in saying that the team who scored 10 in a game before Man City was Gillingham? Mind you when you played West Brom today it sounded like you should have had another 10 !!!

Yes, Gillingham 10 Chesterfield 0. Amazingly Chesterfield had not conceded a goal in their first 4 matches of the season.
The week before putting 10 past Chesterfield, Gillingham had defeated Southend United 8-1 - 18 goals scored in consecutive ganes!

Graham Clayton We could do with some of those goals this season !! We've dropped 19 points from point scoring positions this season which is frustrating. Still it won't stop me going each week (home and away) I think we'll turn it around if we sort out our defence. Thanks for reminding me of the 10-0 and 8-1, I think my memory is fading, mind you I turned 50 recently !! cheers
