Binging Jeffery's Home Free reactions & i'm not sure he realizes the percussion is all Adam or if he doesn't realize it's not a drum machine! So far in all videos up to now other than "The Butts Remix" he has not seemed to realize that!
The memories, right? Us baby boomers are reliving a very painful time when this song came out right in the heart of Vietnam, our fiances, friends, husbands were sent to war. There were riots, protests, anger, hatred of the young soldiers coming home, racial unrest, all the stuff. My fiance was in Nam 14.5 months, we talked 10 minutes after he'd been gone 10 months and that was it. It was just a painful time and this song the guys did with Don McLean is absolutely incredible! Each one did their solo to perfection.It's easy to overlook Adam Rupp keeping the beat in this because he just does it so well. But wow, him and Tim killed that beat! Don McLean wanted this version to be more peppy he said, so yeah, wow, they did that!! It helped not to have just the slow solemn dirge type sounds. Don said he wanted Home Free to do this with him because "they understand harmonies like the Jordanaires." Wow, what high praise! But I have to say I have shed some tears!! Darren Rust producer put this together like the pro that he is! Loved the pictures going on around it from back in the day. Brought it all together.Masterful production! Take care.
Takes me back, listening it on the radio, EVERYONE knew the words "Bye, Bye, Ms. American Pie, drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry, them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and Rye, singing this will be the day that I die." OMG, they did an incredible job and Don McLean can STILL SING!

It's become my FAVORITE Home Free song/video in just 2 days, it's THAT GOOD. I take my hat off to Darren Rust who is Home Free's arranger....he took an iconic song and made it MORE ICONIC !!! Of all the solos Chance and Tim took it to that next level. I am 60 yrs old and this is THE SONG OF MY GENERATION...and Home Free & Don McLean DELIVERED, not only delivered but it's an atom bomb !!! WOWZA
This song came out when I was nine years old and it was so special that it is still one of my favorites today when I’m almost 59. Home Free knocked it out of the park on this one!

Yes it's the 50th anniversary. Also 62 yrs yesterday when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper were killed in that plane crash. This is iconic! And Adam is killing it with the beatboxing. The part about "lost in space" made me tear up thinking about the Challenger explosion. Just had the Anniversary the other day.
January 28, 1986. My father was in a coma in the hospital and my mother walked into his room, filled with doctors and nurses watching the Challenger explosion. Freaked her out thinking something even worse had happened to Daddy.

This is a song most everyone has heard, young or old, and for Home Free to refresh it and include Don in it and drop it on the anniversary is amazing and another reason I love this group so much! I'd like to see you react to Home Free's version of "Blue Ain't Your Color" please and thanks for reacting.
Yeah this definitely took me on that rollercoaster trip...but it was worth every 8 1/2 minutes - it's what made and molded me into who I am today...the good...bad...and ugly...
It's doesn't get any better than Home Free harmonies from heaven...the masterful magic of Darren and the soulful, velvety voice of Don and his skillful yet hauntingly soul-stirring lyrics.
A timeless classic than even out does the original - although I hold the original version near and dear to my heart...always will. I did tear up at the end when Don removed his glasses, bowed his head, and the statement that was made in that one final gesture put a lump in my throat and brought some crocodile tears. My wife noticed and said; "Are you crying?" and I, the old softy had to admit that yes, it had pierced my heart and soul....Long live American Pie and Sir Don McLean and Home Free for driving the Chevy to the levy one last time!!! Magnificent Musical Magic!!

I remember it all! The crash, the devastation everyone felt over losing three great music icons at once, and the day this song came out as a tribute to three late greats. I played it so many times I knew the words by heart, and still do today. I love the small clips that played throughout this video. You could still hear the emotions very clearly, in the intro and the last verse Don sang. All of the guys from Home Free did a bang up job on this, but let's talk about that beat boxer, Adam. Just WOW! 8 plus minutes of beat boxing and he was spot on with every perfected sound he made. Who needs instruments, when you've got Adam and Tim holding down those amazing beats.

Don still sounds so fantastic at 75!!! I remember when this originally came out.. loved it then, LOVE it even more now! As you said in the beginning.. This is definitely EPIC!!! I love how each of the guys, even Tim, kept it is the range that Don sings in. Felt sorry for Adam having to keep the beat for 8 1/2 min!! LOL I've had this playing on repeat on Spotify since it came out! LOL

50th anniversary of the song, but the anniversary is actually the 63 anniversary of the crash with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. So many memories and so many references to the times and to Rock and Roll.
I love the way Don brought it. His voice is beautiful. The shades of tone, inflections, and the nuances... and the joy of giving his gift. This is why the music never really died. Don picked up the flag and continued the race.

I'm almost 70 years old. Boy did they do it Justice. Wore out my Don McLean album. With four chapters it was made for them.
To get a real feel for Home Free look up Walking this Land and listen to Tim at the end.
Adam has a metronome in his head. Nearly 8 minutes and not a missed beat. He's not human.
And the most outstanding thing is not a one of them tried to outshine Don.

The song itself, yeah its a song that shall live on forever, rightfully so. If someone were to disect the lyics it is one of the deepest songs ever written, outside of the classic thought of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens dying (yes indeed, the day the music died), the deeper messages in it, yeah Don wrote a masterpiece. Then this arangement, with Don himself front and center, yeah it is next level.
So, so good. The video was clever, the singing was superb and Don McLean still has it at 75! Great job Home Free. Loved your reaction!

Gives Me life.. This is my favorite song of all time and Home Free performing it with the original artist Don Mclean. OMG This will always be the best ever version. It's a Masterpiece of PERFECTION! A song of reminiscing that now has Me reminiscing about how much i loved hearing it back when it first came out and now how relevant it fits in today's world.
