Hey Will! Stephen from the race in HKS scheme here. It was wild lining up with you after watching so many of your videos throughout the years! I am happy that I was able to give you a battle there and hope to race you again. Keep crushing it and Happy New Year!
I have been driving Assetto Corsa for about a month. Now, I get all the way to the drivers seat on my selected road, and none of the controls work. I hear the audio just fine. My hands don't leave the wheel to change gears and the throttle does not work. Everything else seems fine. Any thoughts?
@@vrforseniors9830 unplug replug, and maybe try to rebind everything in asseto, ive had it unbind everything and i thought my wheel was toast until i set it back up
That FOV and POV your setup gives just blows me away each time I watch one of these style of videos. It cost a pretty penny and took an age to get right but the end result makes it all worth it and I have enjoyed both the journey it took to get here and the end result we get to enjoy in these race videos. Thanks.
I'm literally 59 seconds into my first watch of Any of your videos, let alone a hyper realistic run of racing, and just blown away! looks insane, and that hand tracking is insane!
I think he was in two minds. By leaving the door open, he invited you in. He was half-hearted in execution, and that's the result when you drive like that. Either defend the line or give more room. Some may say you weren't far up enough alongside him, but you stayed the course, and he turned albeit slightly into you. You can't just disappear. I think he realised his error in judgement too late.
I think you're spot on with your analysis blak7 rc. Once allowed in, he had nowhere to go. You're right, he was in two minds, probably still spooked from lifting at the corner, losing all his speed and momentum and the knowledge that his lead was in jeopardy. The replay show the brake lights come on first before he was cut off, as you say he had nowhere to go. Don't think there was any mal-intention, merely unfortunate. Very tight race and only takes one slip to let the other guy in.
This is 100% how I saw it. Kool Aid is trying to have it both ways: opening up the inside so that you don't take the faster line around the outside, but squeezing the inside line so that you aren't able to get past. As black7 rc says, defend the line or give more room. Under these circumstances- where he screwed up and lost all his momentum, creating a big speed differential- its just unsporting. Sometimes you need to eat your mistakes- you can't just park in the center of the track and expect the rest of the pack to line up behind you while you sort things out.
@@kmonk101 absolutly true, when you are so much slower because of a mistake, its unfair to punish the following cars. if he had just let p2 and p3 pass he would have still finished p3.
From the chase cam view of Matts car: 23:52 - Cover his car with your hand and then watch your own car in the moments before contact... there appears to be a little movement to the left. 25:01 - There is a super small left steering input to the left immediately after you brake for the turn that put you into the rear of his car as he was initiating his move to the right. I think he should have left you space & I think you had a reaction to try and make a little space so you could stay on track. I offer no judgements, only observations :D
I think it's really hard to determine cause in that one. I do think you made the right call to take the inside line after his mistake, but the timing of your/his approach to the apex made it hard for you to actually turn in yourself and for him to assume that he may be in the clear. You appear to back off ever so slightly before the contact, and his race engineer may have said "clear right" leading him to believe he could make the corner freely. At the end of the day I'd chalk that one up as a racing incident and hope he wasn't too upset about it. Great race and great video! Look forward to the next one.
21:35 I don’t think either of you did anything wrong in the incident. It’s a fast right-hander and he left the door open to get closer to the racing line to set up his corner. You put your car on the inside because it was the only place to be with your overspeed, but I don’t think the move was ever on - your entry was fairly shallow and I think his outside line would have carried more speed and kept him ahead without the contact. Great race - glad to have you back!
Will, remember your driver training? Don't hit the gas until you know you won't need to lift. You are losing time by being on and off the throttle. Keep up the good work.
It’s funny. He’s class a and I’m class c and I almost only feather it beginning of throttle on so I’m not on and off. And my telemetry for accelerated foot work seems more fine tuned than he is but he is just faster than me.
Some food for thought: 1. You making a clean pass by him is your responsibility. 2. you were super inside and would have pinched yourself on the exit and would have over-slowed that high-speed sweeper, I think the move would have been to have gone to the left side and carried the momentum to pass him on that high-speed sweeper. That was a great race to watch, and I enjoyed it! This is my take from racing cars in real life as there is no reset button, just dollar figures. I also instruct and my biggest things to teach are situational awareness and driving predictably (he was unpredictable by being offline to block). If I was the front car, I understand the middle line to have the thought of you backing off and not taking the inside and pinching the exit. I have been racing for over two weeks on iRacing and I am hooked. I am using your channel to grow on the sim rig, thanks for the insight!
@@codeREDsim Yeah even if they got through the corner with no incident, they both would have been compromised on exit and most likely overtaken by p3, ask me how I know.. lol

I don't think he had a clear plan on how to handle that situation. You did nothing wrong imo. You both seemed to have your cars straightened out prior to the right-hander. You even braked before him for the turn-in. He didn't seem to realize you had a fender on him. I mostly race ovals so this is all that is needed. I have heard that on the road side, you have to be at least to the door before it is "your" corner. I don't really agree with that philosophy, tbh. Maybe he does and thought you would concede. A learning experience for sure. Glad to see you back making videos again! 👍
I think he pulled left to the middle of the road to give himself space to take the upcoming right turn, not necessarily to give you space, hence he didn't go all the way left to widen the angle. At the point he turned right it was to hit the apex and resume the normal racing line, the contact between you two was only just, and either of you could have done things different for a cleaner outcome. One thing, i think you could see better from your viewpoint than he could see you from his viewpoint, so I'll say its a 51%-49% in his favour! Great video!
his wheel inputs suggest he was attempting to block or deny you the inside line. But likely he didnt recognize your nose was already inside his rear quarter panel, plus his line was way off for a normal line at that corner. The incident he had on the front stretch also was an attempted block id argue but much more obvious. Glad to see youre feeling better and back at it!
I reckon anything with low power and low grip is fun to drive. It forces you to get the most out the car, maintain perfect balance and momentum. But they are a little easier drive on the limit of adhesion. Makes them super fun
I think he went to the middle hoping you'd go for the inside, but have too much speed for such a tight inside line, forcing you to slow down and allowing him to get the lead back. Which, I believe, would have worked without the contact. As for the contact itself, it's hard to say because he did start turning, but he also left you plenty of space and, at the moment of the contact, you were on an outward trajectory away from the apex. I believe that, had you been parallel to him, there would have been no contact. It's like you were trying to push him out to get more space, while he was trying to squeeze you in. I'd say it's a racing incident.
Nothing you could've done differently, think its just one of these unlucky bounce netcode contacts. Your setup is so amazing to watch, glad you're doing better! Wish you the best for 23!
Great race Will - just bad luck for the vvery minor contact - you didn't receive any incident points, so as far as iRacing thought, you're in the clear. Nicely done, Happy New Year mate, love to see what you're going to do in 2023!
On the Incident, I would have gone wide and used my Inertia to pass leaving me open to pick my apex on the next turn, as you decided to go inside you were already restricting your approach, compromising your line, and leaving you exactly where you found yourself with a hesitating driver defending and cutting off your approach. Just my take 🖖
May have been the better approach. I was worried if I went around the outside I’d have to back right out to avoid running off track on the exit which would have put me back in fourth. I figured if I went down the inside it was less likely to end up with 3rd place taking advantage as he would have to also get past the slower car.
Your Lucky 3rd didn't see what was about to happen and slingshot around both of you, he was probably fixated on just keeping on your tail, Great drive the way it worked out and no points
13;09 you stole his line... but thats racing baby, he shouldve realized you stole his line because he made a mistake. he shouldve been paying attention. youre 100% in the clear my man excellent driving.
With a bit of a bung leg you deserve the win! lol. Nice win, regarding the tap I think he may have just made that mistake on the curve and lost his train of thought for a second. Tangent...I dream of seeing you drive some old XY,XB gthos , Brock commodore, with that amazing rig you have. Very happy your on the mend.
By the way he made contact in his incidents, I suspect Matt had a narrow field of view and wasn't able to see out of his left or right side to help him be aware of the traffic around him.
Reaching down to shift, now there's something you don't see Europeans doing everyday😂 your sim rig is by far the most polished I've seen on TH-cam, do more night races and get some use out of those awesome ceiling led's!
I think you turned left while you were breaking. trying to counter weigh the expected contact from over extending the breaking point. He proposed the contact, you made the contact... Loved the rest of the racing...
Looks to me like Kool Aid was trying to do the right thing by giving you some room down the inside based on the initial steering slightly left after the slow exit, but I suppose approaching the right hand corner he had to start turning in and similarly, with a great run, you were also committed to the corner... really a case of "Who Blinks First" 😅😅😅. That being said... Kool Aid's next incident down the straight with another car was "interesting" in the sense that there was room made up the left hand side and as the faster car was trying to pass, there was a slight move closing off that space.... just an observation... By the way, great racing and thoroughly enjoyed watchin it...
His turning in was that he was already in a slide, but the situation started from him signaling giving space but then not really giving enough space for the faster car.
see it like @Dave Cam......after his failure hit the kerb is your move you go inside and he should give you more space.....btw he got a lot room on his left side.....to me his own failure to turn into you..........congrats for the win
Kinda blown away no one noticed that he didnt brake at all before the corner, he initiated braking after you touched him. You can see him go full throttle again after the contact. I would be surprised if he could have pulled that off without sliding, even if there had been no contact. You lost a little stability and the wheel did pull left into him.
Beside your outstanding setup, I really love your dedication and passion, that you are able to transfer on each of your videos. Big congratulations and keep up the good work!
you can see from the yellow car in front that he has avoided the racing line expecting you to fly by on his left, but he found you underneath him instead
He knew you would over take him. He left it open for you because his intentions was to drift that corner and close you off. In doing so his bumper clipped you, cause him to spin out. He's not the DK he thought he was. Good race !
ooogh amazing pov maybe is my feeling but try to not to lift mid corner, but right before corner and attack the apex with early full throttle overall on those two last corners. and turn 3 also helps that
It was his fault!, let the door open and once he realized that, he tries to close it, but it was too late. Nice race Will, and it is so good to see you again and well.
Agreed. If he somehow felt contact before the one that spun him, he would have been counter-steering left to get out of it, not steering right as we saw do from his cockpit view. He would have been getting comms that Will was on his right, so closing the door at that moment was his fault
Chompin' at the bit for my MOZA gear to arrive, can hardly wait to experience a DD setup. R9 Base, FSR Wheel, and CPL pedals. Building my Zen9 7900X system while I am waiting. Trying to decide what Sim Software I want to use, now I will have a PC and Gear to be competitive I am going to try my hand at online racing for the 1st time.
You're gonna love it! Assetto Corsa with Content Manager and mods is essential as its the ultimate playground for all kinds of driving. ANS2 is also a great all rounder to start with. ACC is more specialised but offers some great racing and iRacing is great for simulating the emotional highs and lows of real racing. I don't play much else other than the above these days.
I got my wheel (MOZA R9, CRP Pedals and CS Wheel) and rig about a week ago, added a reverb G2 VR headset to the list a couple of days ago. Been racing alot of Iracing in the past but with the new rig I figured I'd try Iracing and Lord is that game addictive (done 70 races in total in like 10 days). With or without VR, Iracing will be my go to sim for the foreseeing future. On the side I run AMS2 as second most played and after that Asetto Corsa. Tomorrow my next upgrade will be in, a shifter + Ebrake. Can't wait! My biggest worry when spending all that money was that I maybe got bored with it within a couple of days, the opposite happened, can't seem to stop racing and improving.. 🤣🤣
@@Horneycorn I went for the Galaxy G9 Geo for the 49" Wide screen wrap around effect and no Bezel lines. I will have to try VR before I make the jump, not sure if I will like having something strapped to my head all the time.
The slight contact prior wasn't enough to upset by the looks of his cockpit view. I'd say he's got incident responsibility because he tried to close the door while you were there. He knows you're coming up fast and on the right side, whether there was a call right or not better to play it safe and leave room, he didn't.
i would call that a "race Incident" ! You had a bit more track to the right in the beginning, but then he did turn in to the corner, and should have understod that a car was beside him after what happend.
He's most definitely at fault! He turned in as you was already committed into the overtake/turn. He should've gave you more room. He was probably hoping that you would brake and backoff but you didn't so he made contact. Good race Will 👍🏽
Reminded me of Hill Schumacher in 1994. Personally I think you could have waited and it was just a little too ambitious to go on the inside there and expect him not to turn in on the racing line when you're not fully alongside. Just my two penneth though as you are the attacking car.
After seeing all the replays of your incident with Matt, then seeing the one replay of Matt's incident up the front straight at 22:02 where he just pushes the green car off the circuit, it looks to me like his spacial awareness is just not there. Maybe he's running a single screen, doesn't have mirrors on, or his Bitchin Bob (the spotter voiceover) isn't working. You did nothing wrong.
Your entry into that right hander (example at 5:32) is interesting. You're going in shallow and actually steering left a tiny bit, and somehow getting the back to step out by lifting the gas, right? (I'm about to get my first ever sim rig and I'm interested in how it's going to feel!)
Classic case of not simply moving over after he messed up for the good of the race. Had he let you through easier, you was compromised anyway being over on the inside, you would have had to turn much tighter to make to corner, he would have had the momentum to then catch you again, and we would have seen a fantastic battle.
He messed up the corner, lost loads of speed then took a bit of a desperate move to block you coming through. That's racing. BTW you visuals look amazing. Worth watching for that alone and I wish other sim racing content creators would take a leaf out of your book!
Instead of running for the inside line, wouldn't it be safer and faster to have taken the outside line? Sacrifice the first corner to gain additional momentum for the last 2 fast corners? That's how I usually look at that scenario, although I seldomly have an opportunity to overtake.
Think 50/50. Like black7 said he did a bit of both. I don't think you was necessarily far enough alongside given how tight your line would have been to go through corner but at the same point other guy could've/should've given more room given you had your nose in there. He kind of did neither. Either move to inside so you have no choice or stay outside and have racing line give you room but probably carry more speed and probably get you back down the straight. We all been guilty of this in both instances I'm sure.
Hey Will Happy New Year, good to see you back at it. If I was in his shoes I new I stuffed up, and would expect you to take advantage, knowing I had lost heaps of speed and try to keep you at bay, but also knowing I needed to get back up to speed as much a posible for the next two corners. If he had a spotter acvtive (assume he would) he would of known you were there. I would of then opened up my steering giving you room and hope that I can regain more speed than you going into the next few corners. Your exit speed would be compromised as well. Looking at it from a race controler prospective I would have called it Racing incident. You probably were not up far enough, but he did not give you racing room. result he spun, if you spun same call. You saw a gap, its not racing if you drive around following each other. I dont think he left you room, It would of been a matter of compromise more to the right, no room for you, but loss of speed on exit for next corner for Him. All in all Racing incident. IMO
I don't see that being your fault.. He left the inside open and even then you went full on brakes because you saw him drift a bit on the inside.. He then tapped your front left and spun.. He had lots of room to keep his original line and could had kept the battle going but.. Awesome win!
Someone may be in the 58's but what track temp? Netcode..slight touch with netcode makes it look like he is turning in. I guess it gets down to "do you give more room when you factor in netcode" . Also he may have one screen only and he can't see
That incident was in absolutely no way your fault. When he realized that he left the door open he tried to close you, but then it was already too late. I think he may have misjudged his own speed and didn't think you will come with such high pace.
Iracing I’m sure has it moments of awesomeness. The problem is it overcharges massively for those moments. Greedy monetisation ain’t worth the positives…

Buddy baited you then left you no space. Def just a racing incident imo but if I had to lay blame it would be on the other guy! Good race Will!
Seemed like he just didn't have a spotter running. turned in without really knowing that you were still there. That was an awesome video though!
This setup is wild!!!
This skill is insane. To be so focused and so perfect, this man has truly mastered his shi
That's racing with D-Guys right there! iRacing needs to sort out their penalties...
Blimey! That looks real!
the first minute of this video got me crazy, i couldnt tell if it is irl driving or a sim
13:12 *forces his way inside*
“he just turned in on me”
you can see from the yellow car in front that he has avoided the racing line expecting you to fly by on his left, but he found you underneath him instead
honestly your brave when it came with your leg
13:12 Hold my bear, they call me Vasterppen 😎
@@Horneycorn Fantastic , I am so stoked 🥳🥳🥳
@@Horneycorn I went for the Galaxy G9 Geo for the 49" Wide screen wrap around effect and no Bezel lines. I will have to try VR before I make the jump, not sure if I will like having something strapped to my head all the time.
You have the most amazing set ups. It looks like you are really inside a race car. Great graphics as always
10:33 Australia moment
The slight contact prior wasn't enough to upset by the looks of his cockpit view. I'd say he's got incident responsibility because he tried to close the door while you were there. He knows you're coming up fast and on the right side, whether there was a call right or not better to play it safe and leave room, he didn't.
these cars are so fun, even being slow cars but still a blast
The GR86 is fun! Close enough to the MX-5 in power and ability, but definitely takes a bit more care to keep on the track.
i would call that a "race Incident" !
Good race Will 👍🏽
After you gained first place and had Stephen chasing you, you finally drove aggressively :)
So much fun to watch. Keep up the good work! Ps these videos aren’t helping me forget about getting a rig again 😂
What SQ shifter where you smaking there m8? Thanks for sharing.. always awesome to watch your videos. Loving the new GR86-s as well
Amazing rig you got man
Reminded me of Hill Schumacher in 1994. Personally I think you could have waited and it was just a little too ambitious to go on the inside there and expect him not to turn in on the racing line when you're not fully alongside. Just my two penneth though as you are the attacking car.
You've got a great sim setup there buddy, very impressive.
Good racing. Glad your back and hope the health is getting better each day. Looks like a good move on your part, he just wanted to cover you off.
I think he was unsure where you were going and was leaving the outside open for you knowing it was the drive line😮
"Hey, Kool-Aid, Man! Tighten TF Up!"
Great vid as always sir but I really wish iRacing would use the classic layout at this track more often - it is so much better in slow cars.
He messed up the corner, lost loads of speed then took a bit of a desperate move to block you coming through. That's racing. BTW you visuals look amazing. Worth watching for that alone and I wish other sim racing content creators would take a leaf out of your book!
That intro made fooled me. I thought I accidentally opened a freaking game in my PC.
Instead of running for the inside line, wouldn't it be safer and faster to have taken the outside line? Sacrifice the first corner to gain additional momentum for the last 2 fast corners? That's how I usually look at that scenario, although I seldomly have an opportunity to overtake.
I really got into this car. The first that I could get close to master.
IMO
He had to leave some space as he already invited you to get in there.
I don't see that being your fault.. He left the inside open and even then you went full on brakes because you saw him drift a bit on the inside.. He then tapped your front left and spun.. He had lots of room to keep his original line and could had kept the battle going but.. Awesome win!
love your content keep it up
No question, he didn't leave you room on the corner.
I'd view it as a late attempt at closing you down, most people would have gone for the move so it is what it is.
You know how to keep us entertained! One question, the Simlab promocode doesn’t work? Take care
Someone may be in the 58's but what track temp? Netcode..slight touch with netcode makes it look like he is turning in. I guess it gets down to "do you give more room when you factor in netcode" . Also he may have one screen only and he can't see
looks like a racing inc. combination netcode and him trying to block after making a mistake and compounding it
That incident was in absolutely no way your fault. When he realized that he left the door open he tried to close you, but then it was already too late. I think he may have misjudged his own speed and didn't think you will come with such high pace.
based on the further contact of other cars I just think he was either not paying attention to other cars or just didnt care
Looks like that guy believed that the space inside was just enough no be not_enough and didn't expect you to go there.
Looks like he got into netcode territory
I'm very surprised they used the chicane layout for this car
Have you ever tried road racing or racing in general in the Nascar Next gen cars on IRacing?
Iracing I’m sure has it moments of awesomeness. The problem is it overcharges massively for those moments. Greedy monetisation ain’t worth the positives…
Cool setup ;)
