What is the Venice Biennale and why should we care?

Remember that time your friend said, "Oh, I'm just so tired - the Venice Biennale was exhausting," and your uncle was like, "What is a bee-nal-er?" and you stopped speaking to both of them forever?
I'm Professor Lise (not really a professor) and this is Art 101 (not really a class) and I'm here to clear up this Venice beenaler business, right now. What is this word and what does it mean?? How do you pronounce it? And why is it such a big deal?

Hi, Thanks for your video, but I believe it’s a BIG MISTAKE to call the Biennale or documenta “fairs” as you correctly called ArtBasel. These different projects should NOT get mixed up. This is a major error, so egregious you may consider editing the video for your own credibility, and for the benefit of your viewers. Biennials are academic ventures, with specific curatorial purposes, where art is not for sale, it is there to be seen, considered, and discussed. Whereas fairs are commercial enterprises where art is for sale , and with usually no curatorial purpose. Or direction... In fairs, each day is different, depending on what sold... It’s art for sale. Please consider this monumental difference. Thank you.
