    I have a single Thompson vine that I bought this year. My initial plan was to build a 5 foot trellis above a 25 gallon planter box, but I prefer the style in your video. Will the Thompson grapes adapt this shape, or do you recommend another system. How many season should I remove the grapes before allowing them to mature. I live in Sacramento and if you make a yearly follow-up video on the progress of these vines, I will give you all the lemons and oranges you will ever need. I will be following your example if I Thompson’s can be trained to this way.

    That vine is more than a pencil size thick...How old is this grapevine and whats the best fertilizer to get the vine to thicken up

    Thank you good info. I have been trying to find a video like this. I'm in my second growing season (cab franc / michigan) and I'm trying to get a couple of trunks up to the first wire. But I've got stuff growing everywhere. I have about 3 to 5 trunks coming out of the main root right now that have about 12 inches of woody brown. They all look like they would make good trunks.
    I need to do more than one trunk in case I lose one ...if our winters get too cold. But I'm trying to figure out if this is where I trim the root down to only two. It's our second year. I have also cut off all the young grapes as you mentioned in the video.
    I'm also confused about turning them into horizontal arms or codons for the type of trellis I am making. Am I growing the trunk until I have two arms that reach my wire? Or do I leave them down low for now and they will eventually grow to that height. Trying to figure out if I want to trim off all the extra stuff so the main trunk keeps growing taller. Sorry I'm kind of new at this we have about 8 vines here in Michigan.
    Thx

      Hey there! For these questions, you may want to find a video that better fits your vine training plans - this vine will be head-trained in a warm, relatively dry environment. In my experience (the guy who makes these videos), I've never seen multiple trunks for a vine like you're describing - but a hedge against cold weather isn't a big issue in the areas where Bedrock works. Hope you find a video that fits your growing area a bit better, and good luck with those 8 vines!

      @@bedrockwineco.4022 I am actually planning on one day planting a little vineyard (1 acre - 200 vines max) and so your videos are very educational to me. :)

    do you mean that these old vines can fruit without water?

    • @bedrockwineco.4022
      @bedrockwineco.4022  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep - without irrigation (dry farmed). A lot of old vines in CA were established as dry farmed, so the root systems are able to find enough water to support their growth and fruit production. This vineyard can sometimes get irrigated once or twice a year, but that's it - in a climate that receives essentially no rain in the summer months.
