The inspiration is clearly there. But the legend himself gave his blessings: th-cam.com/video/ePIAaQwYMaM/w-d-xo.html and that’s enough for me! So yeah the inspiration and similarities are prevalent but that’s okay. Everyone is inspired by people they admire. This is a really early song and I’m excited to see how they’ve developed their unique sound over the years. I refuse to write off an entire band due to these circumstances, I will acknowledge criticism but that’s it, other than that we are here to enjoy music 🎶🙌🤝 much love all

ALL bands are influenced!! Im so tired of hearing this and then people are so quick to write them off because of it. People need to do the homework, hell listen to other bands and you'll always find similarities. Theres only so many notes and combinations. Just enjoy the music for christs sake!

Dud just say it man they sound like "Led Zeppelin Robert Plant" 😅😅 and Robert said the punk stole his voice, and then gave them his blessing 🥰🥰

You are gonna revisit them again? Seeing with the latest two albums, they really developed more into their own style. Especially Meeting The Master.

The first time I saw Greta Van Fleet was on SNL. I was stunned by the similarities to old Led Zeppelin tracks, though they weren't trying to imitate Zeppelin and they were doing originals. The vibe was natural, not manufactured, not stolen from the greats of the past, but springing from the same well of inspiration as those greats.

They catch a lot of heat for "sounding like Led Zeppelin" and such. Personally I hear influences from lots of 70s rockers. And what band hasn't been influenced by other bands? Such a silly thing to focus on IMHO. And their sound has evolved with each album. Personally, I am a big fan.

    • @NecramoniumVideo

There were ALLOT of bands that got influenced by The Beatles as well, and there were so many Beatles clone bands in the 60's. And they all were their own band.

Other bangers from them that need to be heard are: When the Curtain Falls, Light My Love, Black Smoke Rising, Stardust Chords, Weight of Dreams and specifically the candlelight sessions version of Broken Bells. They're coming out with a new album in July so that will be worth checking out as well. Love these guys, finally bringing classic rock back to the mainstream!

First got to say I'm a Led Zeppelin freak, they are the gods of rock, yes there are enough similarities in this to say "inspired by" but no way the attacks they had of rip offs, tribute band etc, that was haters hating. They complain there is no music like the wonderful classic rock of the 70's then as soon as they hear so e they moan ! RP has an amazing voice and can do vocal gymnastics but he cannot sing as high or as pure as Josh ! Jake has just won the poll for best guitar solo of the 21st century, totally deserved, he kills it !

Greta Van Fleet are awesome! There is so much more you need to hear. Anything live is what you want to see and hear. They are fantastic live. Yes the Singer (Josh Kiszka), Bass player (Sam Kiszka), and Jake Kiszka (Lead Guitar) are brothers, Josh and Jake are twins and 3 years older than Sam. Danny Wagner is their childhood friend (Drummer). The twins were 20 and Sam and Danny were 17 when this hit the airwaves and they began touring the states and the world. They won a Grammy for Best Rock Album from their first EP. Great reaction!!

I am a Zeppelin fan. First time i’ve heard this song, i thought i missed some Jimmy Page riff. Then i thought it’s Robert Plant’s voice. I did not understand how could i have missed acZeppelin song. Then my daughter said this is Greta van Fleet. I loved this song immediately - exactly because it reminded me of my old favorites.
However: the similarities end here. If you listen to their other songs, as time goes by they are playing more and more in their original GVF style that carries the old rock’s features, but definitely different from anybody else’s.
You can like it or not, but being cruelly critical of them because 19-20 years old Jake plays the guitar as good as Jimmy Page and Josh’s vocal is as good as Robert Plan’s, is ridiculous.
I’d be happy to see more of their songs first reaction here. I think they are extremely talented and entertaining musicians, and a big joy for me to hear old style rock.

When I watch this video it reminds me of how young they were when they started. Their moms had to accompany them to various venues because they were still minors. And before they played at a party hosted by Elton John, who suggested that they change their stage attire to something that you’d see in the 70’s and 80’s. My BFF since junior high has lived in Frankenmuth remembers them not only playing in local bars, but also having them wait on the, at the market. BTW Robert Plant likes them. He was asked about them during an interview several years ago and he said Josh was a good singer.

Very good young band. The first time I heard this song was when it first came out 5-6 years ago on our local radio station - - - we all thought it was a lost Led Zep track or something being played. They are by no means Led Zep level, but they are good. I suggest the next GVF song you review, which is my favorite, is 'Black Smoke Rising'

The first couple of times I heard greta van fleet was the safari song in highway tone on the radio. I never heard the band announced. So I just assumed somebody had dug up. Some old led zeppelin that never got released. Then I found out it was a new band that had rediscovered classic rock. And they have the talent to absolutely pull it off. Salvo do a deeper dive these guys are venominal.

When this album came out, the Zep comparisons came out in droves. I always had multiple issues with that. 1. Every artist imitates the people who inspired them, at least in the beginning. That’s how you start as an artist. 2. There are definitely worse musical influences to take than Led Zeppelin. 3. I’ve always thought these guys sounded more like the Black Crowes than anything. (A claim could easily be made that the Crowes were also Zeppelin knockoffs, but I digress.) You play this style of music, this well, you’re going to get comparisons. I never understood why that was a knock on them. Like, “boohoo, they sound like one of the biggest rock bands in history,” it takes talent to reach that level, or else anyone and everyone would be doing it.

I think of this song as being about a car that pulls up to a pretty person in the next lane. First, Josh does ah ah ah ah (car engine trying to turn over/start. Then, the tambourine is they keys rattling, idling for minute, then AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Off they go!!!!!

Not my favorite song, but it catapulted them, so I can't complain about that. It just seems like eons ago. Technically thats incorrect. Josh was always the lead singer they are three brothers ( Josh & Jake being twins) plus childhood friend on drums, they always played at home BUT Josh struggled to be heard in the garage over the speakers etc. According to Jake, one day he just screamed out to push past the instruments and they all stopped playing and just looked at him. That was the day they thought yeah we've got something here, and they were right. 😅

The funny thing is, the other band members had no idea the guy on the mic could even sing.

The guy on the mike ? They always knew Josh could sing, he's Jake's twin & Sam's older brother. They always played together in the garage. The issue was Josh couldn't be heard. because of all the noise playing in a garage with speakers etc. One day in frustration he screamed out to push past it and they all stopped playing. Then they realised we have something here

There are a few other bands "similar" to this. Some other bands you may want to check out: Rival Sons, Dirty Honey, The Strokes. There are probably more, but those are bands I have checked out myself. Michigan for the win!!!!
