Although paper jam is thrash, you're right, but I have to praise the fact that alongside bowser inside story and partners in time, they show how to add more active party members in mario & Luigi without feeling off, being paper jam the most refined version of the 3, and bowser inside story the best way to make sidestories with other characters.
I'm 36, and the Mario RPGs are my favorite sub genre of games. I read the IGN article and was concerned. But the reviewer made solid points and backed them up. I'm halfway through Brothership and it's pretty awful. Sticker Star, Color Splash are the only Mario RPGs worse.
@@sprilesthe worst cope is people saying its a game for kids like a toddlers first RPG but it has no voice acting so how would any child under 7 or 8 even know what to do or follow the story when they can't read and comprehend all the mountains of text? I absolutely relate to this. I remember watching a show a long time ago, only for my two siblings to absolutely spit on the show constantly. Over time I started to view the show negatively as well. Years later, I watched it again and I absolutely enjoyed it, realizing that through hearing such negativity I viewed the show through the wrong lens...was it perfect? No. But it wasn't terrible either, and was quite good. That's how dangerous it is to be around people who are constantly negative.

There is valid criticism, but IGN were way too harsh. I love the characters, the world of Concordia, and the story. No it's not an original story, but it's executed incredibly well.
Lol! Story well executed? It moves at a snails pace, has characters that drop in and out with little or no development, it's full of meandering and meaningless objectives.
@@sprilesyou could argue that all Mario rpgs are basically that Besides execution but they’ve legit burnt all of the bridges for world building and stuff, so after dream team, and besides paper jam, the originality sucked Becuase they could do WAY much more in terms of story, at least with paper jam it answered where all of the characters were in the paper Mario series To put into perspective I don’t think all of them are good I like the combat, I like the music, and I like the aesthetic, unfortunately all of those rpgs aren’t really great in story so I respectfully disagree your comment
I think one thing that I think all fans do not like whatsoever is the fact that Mario and Luigi are now both controlled at the A button. That is a sin against all sins because every game in the series from the very beginning had Mario dedicated to A and Luigi dedicated to B in every game until this one. I get they made Luigi kind of separate as well as making some parts of the game more simplified in a sense with UI, but for the battles to have him select options with A and then instantly have to swap to B is pretty annoying when the old games had it right. Again I got used to it and it's not as big of a deal but it is a sad thought to think that this new game now decide to change things up and not really make it for entirely the better
@@xProErax Yeah, and the worst part is that you talk to the NPC with B, this game doesn't know what button to assign to Luigi. I mean it's not a big deal, but at least be consistent on what button works with Luigi.

@@TheRealBobbleHat Didn't he upload a vid on how Mario Odyssey was the greatest Mario game of all time, how 2022 was a great year for Nintendo, and how amazing Mario Wonder was and he stated he would put it in his top 5 for Mario games?
Brothership is a wonderful game. The story is charming, the worlds are so unique (especially that final connectable island. MAN that was cool.) and the story picks up the longer it goes. A lot of the complaints are valid, but they don't nearly hinder the experience for me enough for me to care. A lot of the complaints that people have are ones from prior games too, which doesn't make them much better, but it does discredit a lot of those saying that "it is so much worse than previous games!" (I've played almost all of them. It holds up pretty well for being a totally different developer too!) It's not for everyone! But for me, at its lowest it would be an 8, but I think it could be a solid 8.5-9!
My 2 big issues are slow pacing and Luigi battle menu is A and attack is B. While Mario is A for both. Luigi used to always be B and it was more intuitive. The game isn't bad, most of the negatives are accurate but they are over critical about it.
Meh, I've always considered that a nitpick. Superstar Saga did that as well. So, maybe you can argue is a regression; yet, this is mostly a nuisance. The pacing, honestly the tutorial and start of the game DEFINITELY goes too slow, and the game unlocks battle abilities and options REALLY slow as well. However, I think this criticism is only valid for the start of the game, the pace picks up, and battles become VERY fun and pretty much you unlock all the base possible combat options by the end of the first island in the second sea (Desolatt Island). Which, for anyone who was played most or completed the game, that's early in the game, because it is also a very long game.
guessed mario and luigi were overSHADOWed by an alien hedgehog who fought a prototype of himself, who was a giant lizard, a being erased from the timeline and desperately wants to exists, a robot turned beast after going rogue, and an alien warlord that's his dad
Always come to your own conclusions. Don't let anyone take away enjoyment of something from you. I 100% completed all of Brothership together with my twin brother in co-op and we had a blast all the way through! I'm aware that this game is somewhat decisive but for us personally it was phenomenal! I'd even go as far to say it's my game of year, absolutely loved this game!
@ this is funny 🤣, we remapped the controls and played with one joy-con each. My brother played as Mario while I played as Luigi! We had to coordinate when getting through menus but it worked surprisingly well. Being a 1-player game didn’t stop us!
Is the game fun for you? If so, then it's worth playing. Hell, if you like Fling Smash, then more power to you! (Disclaimer: I've never played Fling Smash lol)
IT's my first Mario & Luigi, And for real i can see the people saying how it's kind of bland, but at the same time. Each island are quite short experiences and there's quite a bunch of them, changing enemies, scenery, and even sometimes playstyle. Some island are more a forensics kind of thing, talk to him, talk to her, go there. Some are straight forward, reach the lighthouse, some other have more puzzly components to them where you must use the UFO and the ball, and hit switches. I'm also trying to fetch any challenge medal i can the second i can, so when i unlock new Bros. Move, i go grind a bit, sometimes the ennemies are a bit more of a challenge than i like. To me you're grinded enough in turn based RPG when you can just bash the A button and one hit kill anything with your healer, so i grind quite a lot! During those grinding periods it can fell a bit on the slow side, some cinematic are a bit slow too, some long cinematic with just a couple lines of text, most of which aren't interesting at all. Or even some times, you're moving, and something inconsequential happens and it takes like 30seconds for a little detail like, oh a stalagtite fell... But when i'm up to speed, it's fun! 7/10 is definitely a fair score for Brothership, and now i'll concidere buying a copy of Superstar Saga, pop a new battery in and do it!
"i played this game wrong so it felt too slow" You're not supposed to grind in Mario RPGs. Kill every enemy you come across when sidequesting or during the main story and you're pretty much set for most of the game.
@@CassiusStelar You sound weird. You sound fascist to a point. "I played the game wrong." You're typing your comment wrong... I can bet my left ball you think the reason i said tbe game felt slow while grinding is because grinding doesn't advance the story. And that's wrong, i'm a grindy guy. Grinding in Brothership is slow. I didn't even say why it felt slow, just that he did... Go take care of your own freaking business...
The main weird critique I've seen is people thinking Luigi feels more like an NPC. Maybe it's because I've played other RPGs, maybe it's more of a Mario RPG expectation, but I think that's such a goofy issue to have. I never felt like I directly controlled Luigi in BiS, and I get it immerses some players more into the M&L experience, but that he follows with an auto jump? That you can have him do things. That's a bit more regular control than most RPG main characters have. A main character I feel isn't defined by how they're controlled by the player, I think they're defined more by presence and their own character traits. "NPC" is a very strange way to word it, because would you consider the Partners in a Paper Mario game NPCs? Alas, that's one of my issues with the design philosophies of ANY Mario RPG, and it's mostly something that boils down to my personal preferences. I've never been one largely invested in the idea of "exploring the world through traversal" in RPGs. The world has always just been the canvas upon which a story is created, it's defined by what's within it rather than how you traverse it. But it's a MARIO RPG, of course the guy is gonna be jumping around doing menial platforming and puzzles in the overworld. Fair enough, just a slightly more complicated means of traversing the world. But that importance does impact the perspective of what matters in these games, especially to long time fans. I can KIND OF see why Luigi's role being simplified is an issue in THOSE cases, but I really don't think it's that big of a deal myself given Luigi gets some more story moment times to shine in this game anyway.
I'd argue to the critique of Luigi "feeling like an NPC" that it's actually quite the same as previous games, but it's just a different expression/way to doit. What do I mean by that? Well, in previous games all platforming had to be done with giving input to Luigi as well to jump as well, and honestly... if that is the only reason why Luigi felt more playable for some people I think it is a very weak reason. More often than not I felt slightly annoyed at some platforming sections because I didn't press Luigi's B button just right and plumbed down or barely missed the edge of the platform. Now that he does the jump automatically, I can jump with more confidence. Also later sections of the game have harder platforming that couldn't be executed to the extent they do now with the previous jump system. Lastly, Luigi being able to interact with objects and waiting for command is EXACTLY the same as what Luigi did in previous games too. Just that the formula is different: Previous games more often than not would apply the same formula. Either Mario or Luigi, or both in some occasions, would have to go through a small space or dig under a barrier and the brothers would get separated. The player would switch between them and perform a puzzle or platforming section. Now, it is the same, simply, because Luigi has more autonomy, more real-time actions can be performed. Instead of having to switch constantly between brothers, now Luigi moves around on his won, but waits for the player's command. For example, the conveyer belt stealth section. Here Luigi is hidden in a barrel and can jump to cause noise, distracting patrollers and letting Mario walk around them unnoticed. It's cool, because it is a challenge that is happening in real time and you, the player, still have to time Luigi's jump to effectively distract the guards. If Luigi was a true NPC he would perfectly do everything on its own, and the player would just walk freely around the area with no challenge, but that is not what happens. Same with other actions, such as Luigi being able to carry things on his on, but still requiring player input to place them down or throw them to Mario, etc. Even if the criticism is actually "Well, the issue is that you no longer have sections where you can fully play as Luigi." That'd also be wrong. There are various sections in this game where players can play as Luigi. An ENTIRE gimmick from one of the final areas of the game is about Mario and Luigi interchanging player control to reunite. I really, don't know why these people are complaining so much. I guess they're just skeptical of change, and to that I say... guys, c'mon. The series cannot be exactly the same all the time or else it'd get very generic. That is precisely the reason why people didn't like Paper Jam, even though combining Paper Mario to Mario and Luigi was very creative in concept.
PERSONALLY I thought the story was really really good, and alot of the things I hear that are bad are small enough to push to the side (luigi should ALWAYS be controlled by B in all instances) this is also a new studio working on this franchise which would have been dead otherwise, so as a first entry in the "new era" of m&l this game was fantastic (also, after the bit at the end of the vid, im a HUGE mario and luigi fan)
I feel like it's the common "Nintendo fans overhyping the game before release and causing it to feel disappointing when it does release". Toxic positivity can ruin games too.
I’m halfway through Brothership and I can honestly say that I really enjoy this game. I especially love where the story, combat and locations are going right now (especially the music later in the game). My thoughts are that time constraints are hampering reviewer’s opinions of the game. They probably wanted a quick game to rush through and write a review to move on to the next game that needs to be reviewed. That most likely impacted their score of the game and in turn, has influenced other’s opinion. Nier was a game that was critically panned when it first came out almost 15 years ago. However, it always interested me but I didn’t buy it right away because of the bad reviews. Almost a year later, I found Nier on sale and bought it. I LOVED IT! I REALLY LOVED IT! From then on, I have never allowed a review to influence me on whether or not I play a game I want to experience. I learned my opinion’s are the most valuable opinion’s that matter to me. BTW, the fast sail, as you mentioned, unlocks but it unlocks pretty early on. I think that you weren’t enjoying the game in the beginning as much as you could’ve, had you not listened to other influencers. Now, when you get to where I currently am in the game, you’ll realize that the slow build actually pays off. From a character standpoint to….well, I’ll let you figure that out on your own. A great game!! Also, good video.
@dannysmi7162 well damn, then I got nothing. Guess he took most of the problems it shared with other M&L games too much to heart? I dunno if he never played the prior games in the series, or if he did and simply forgot about how equally present those issues were. I honestly have no clue.
@@dannysmi7162 yeah, that one's fair. But still... a 5? I saw footage of the game, and it never looked like it was lagging to the point it justified that score.
Finished it yesterday and I was never so annoyed with the amount of text boxes in a game. It’s absolutely ridiculous how 60% of the game is just mashing the b button for the game to continue. Yes past games also had a lot of dialogue but here it was like a torture. The backtracking in the last third is criminal. Almost no major boss had its own music which ruined the entire atmosphere. The load times get worse at the end and you have to switch islands every 10 min. The game is just a slog.
People are still feeling salty because of the dumpster fire that was Paper Jam and haven't learned to move on yet. Idiots, am I right ladies and gentlemen?
As someone who played pretty much ever Mario&Luigi (Except Partners in Times), I can get why some peoples dislike it and mostly the M&L Veterans since its WAY different from the formula we used to have since Superstar Saga. Game feel pretty much like a deparature of what M&L was in some way, the small island just feel more like some kind of Mario Galaxy rpg than an Mario and Luigi game. Luigi being an almost npc kinda remove the charm of the game since Luigi was an extension of the player. In Brothership, he jump automatically, you press the L button and he just start moving automatically and do his own thing and the worse thing, in battle you dont use B to choose his move anymore which is blasphemy. And even if most RPG have slow start, M&L games usually dont have slow start too which doesnt help with the other problems. Im still at the start of the game so my opinion will probably change but I feel its not "entirely" an Mario and Luigi game, but the game is still fun to play.
I haven't played BIS, nor Partners in Time. This is my top: 1-Dream Team (Full honestly, I'm BIAS as heck for this game. I ADORE the music of this game, love the Luiginary concepts, the dream worlds, the Island setting, I love Antasma as a villain, I love that Bowser shows backbone and superiority stealing Antasma's role, love the tandem attacks, I was so excited when I saw the bomb derby attack come back in Brothership, I love how unique each boss fight is and when enemies pursued Mario and Luigi and when enemies where on the background, I ADORED the giant fights, which I know this game didn't introduced, but still I love these and how Mario and Luigi still fight together despite size difference, I love how Luigi is so important in this game too. This is just my favorite.) 2-Brothership (Cinematic, great combat gameplay, loved the exploration even with having to backtrack a lot, loved the music, funny, this game truly made me laugh and feel joyful many times, great story, corny yes, but good). 3-Super Star Saga (Charming, challenging, and fun. The only downsides for me are that the story felt a bit unfocused imo, and the game is just frustrating at times, coff, coff, Peach's escort section). 4-Paper Jam (It's four, because I've played four of the M&L games, but this game was so boring I'd put it in at the bottom of any game list I can think of)
I put it right above partners in time which I have only above paperjam. It shares a lot of issues I had with PIT. Including poor level design, but I had more fun with combat in brothership, so even though I liked the story a bit more in pit, I give it to brothership
@spriles TTYD and Brothership have this in common : they both take full responsability for the aesthetics they ve choosen. The world of Brothership looks a bit static to the eye yet at the same time its textures and landscapes are still pleasants to see.
Everytime I play this... I have to hear "Oh, you're playing Mid Brothership while everyone is playing an Overshadow (Sonic x Shadow Generations) Game." IGN ruined this for me. I get that Sonic is better this year but people bashing on those that enjoyed Brothership doesn't deserve to be hated... = . .=u I feel like we can't like Mario anymore when it comes in public but that's just in my thoughts. I say *both* Sonic x Shadow Generations and Mario + Luigi Brothership are 2 different things that are good for those that enjoy it.
I hate how that one IGN reviewer acted like they were a huge fan of the series but acted like the game wasn't at least competing with superstar saga. I get the review on an individual game scale but as a M&L game it's exactly what I wanted It's weird to see how they critiqued it on its strengths and praised it for its weaknesses (the battle system is weak and needs more changes imo)
To expand on the battle system critique It's been 5 games man, the same thing is not cutting it for me although I don't mind that much. BiS had a giants gimmick and Dream team ran with it and it didn't work, obviously it needs more of a rework than anything But I see why they kept it this way, its a new intro to new players
As a big mario and luigi fan (i played every game, including the remakes, at least ones) i think this game is great. The biggest Problem definitely is the pacing, but besides that this game is amazing
honestly I feel that a lot of people writing those reviews forget that this is a game directed towards children. They expect huuuuge things out of something that Nintendo wants 10 year old beans to handle. I dunno, to me it feels like a solid, great game
Spoilers below If there's one real gripe I have with this game, it's that it should have ended sooner. The plot twist was cool and all, but having to collect bonds just to yet again go back to the fortress (now turned soli-tree) felt like a slog. Not the worst padding ever, but it didn't feel that satisfying to me afterwards. Definitely one of the neater final bosses in the M&L series, I'll give it that.
I played a big chunk of superstar saga (I don't have NSO anymore to finish it 😭) and I ADOOOOOREEE how this game looks, I am going to put it absurdly high on my tierlist:) I adore this game and can't wait to play it eventually!:)
Great message at the end. Anything can be overhyped or overhated because of the internet. Just look at the Minecraft movie now. Lot of people are changing their minds from the second trailer alone. I’ve played nearly all the M&L games (minus the remakes and Paper Jam) and so far I only have a few knit picks like the boat travel and not being able to switch with Luigi outside of battles. While this is under a different company, I wasn’t expecting anything too spectacular. But at least this game is a completely new RPG. Not a remake with a few added polish, a brand new game. And yes, I too am having fun.
Honestly this video is somewhat me (plus a few others) with Sonic Forces. People hated/dislike the game and I can see why, but it's really not that bad of a game (I mean we got 06 and Rise of Lyric for god sake). Ignore the hate and play for yourself I can see the same with Mario & Luigi Brothership but IGN isn't helping because they posted the same score 10 times on Twitter
At the point in my life I'm currently at, Brothership is perfect for me. JRPGs are really good games to take slow and soak in, and in that sense, I think Brothership has most other Mario RPGs in general beat! I don't like bouncing from gane to game like some people do so a good, meaty RPG that can make me commit to a campaign is a godsend
I don’t really get these takes. You admit the games has problems. That the writing is just alright and the pacing is horribly slow (hand holding), but you don’t really mind it. It’s not discourse just because people want to hate or because they haven’t gone far enough. Those two problems will be enough for people to be completely turned off from playing it.
Yes we did. And many uncritical Nintendo fans are embracing it because it's a comeback. But many of us wanted the comeback to also be a good game which Brothership is not.
Im seriously at a point where i just instantly dislike a video when i realize its click bait. The thing is, i agree with you, i dont get the hate either. But you phrased this with the title and thumbnail as someone who didnt like the game.
Hearing so much discourse around a game or movie can usually scare me away from it if I haven’t bought/watched it yet. Sometimes it’s for the best (Sonic Colors Ultimate or Disney’s Wish), but games like Brothership and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom seem like such intriguing entries that I don’t want to hear too much. Critiques are important, but I spend way too much time online and barely have any gamer friends, so talking to people I know about the games I’m interested in is very rare. Unless we’re talking about my kid brothers 😆.
I dont think the game is bad, but the pacing and characters are awful and its honestly ruining my experience. I dont let other people influence my thoughts on the game.
Its meh to me. Not a bad game but its still fun. My only issues are framerate (just played bis and it runs at 60, this game runs at 30) and luigi not being on B. Besides that its pretty fun even with a slow start
i am about 18 hours in and have found the puzzles and levels waaaaay less tedious than saga and partners in time and especially inside story or dream team fantastic games but the puzzles require alot more patience imo.these are much more bareable only gripe so far is the dialouge is not quite as funny or enjoyable as saga or the other two after but its still a joy only other problem is i would like a better 30 fps other than that.the game is excellent
The last couple of Mario RPG's (not counting remakes) have been mid at best. Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, TTYD, Bowser's Inside Story is where it's at.
The fact that many (including myself) absolutely agree with him despite having played every single other entry just kinda proves this argument is full of shit (2nd best in the series btw)
It was disappointing tbh. I was mostly bored or indifferent during my 40 hours of playing. I loved all the previous games, but this one sadly fell flat for me :(
Personally I have no interest in playing this game even though I played all the previous ones. The framerate & performance are bad, it costs full console price, the length is padded out similarly to the Dream Team problem from what I saw and there's no core battle gimmicks like fighting alongside Paper Mario or playing as Bowser. The game doesn't really have anything to catch my interest and instead it has more things that drives me away from it, and I'd rather play other games.
dude trust me frame rate and performance are not bad im up to the fourth great lighthouse it runs well core battle gimmick i guess is that its more flashy with more button prompts idk? gimmicks suck anyway imo i rather have it be a normal battle system
Why wouldn't this game cost $60??? And from what I've seen, the framerate isn't even that bad. And yeah ........ There are gimmicks in boss fights. Like.... It's fine if you have no interest in it, but like.... Your reasons aren't exactly... The best.
@@camharkness To be fair, I don't think the vast majority of games are worth $60. There has been gimmicks in boss fights throughout the entire series, what I'm talking about is gimmicks that changes if not defines the playable characters & how you play the game using them. Such as fighting alongside the baby brothers or again playing as Bowser straight up. 30fps with frame drops is really bad for a game like this, at least games like BOTW have the excuse of being massive open worlds and such.
@@carloslabrador1432 The framerate is well known and can be observed & noted without playing the game. The price is visible & relevant to consider before one can even play the game. The above average length of the game compared to most other entries in the series is well documented at this point and can be noted without playing the game. The game's battle system having only Mario and Luigi and no additional members or alternative is something that can be observed and noted without having played the game. These are just facts, not based on subjective taste or experience.
Kind of over nintendo's insert an obnoxious mascot into mario game trope when mario himself is the mascot. It's corny and no one is trying to hang out with a piggybank butterfly thing, a hat with eyes or a talking water pump. Stop it, nintendo.

Yeah, it's just a lot of toxic negativity with positive light being over-shadowed.
What show was it?
The internet with Steven Universe basically
i relate to it went twitter was taking rounds on the kirby series and kirby being an IP that i figured everyone universally liked, it was ccrazy to see people constantly calling teh whole series Mid or Boring and itt made me 2nd guess myself that if the games really are that but idk ive had fun with the, sure they arent ground breaking but they are just fun games and im more then happy to still be a life long fan

There is valid criticism, but IGN were way too harsh.
I love the characters, the world of Concordia, and the story. No it's not an original story, but it's executed incredibly well.
IGN was biased and it shouldn't be trusted anyway
I consider this game to have an original story. Especially in comparison with the two remakes.
Lol! Story well executed? It moves at a snails pace, has characters that drop in and out with little or no development, it's full of meandering and meaningless objectives.
@@sprilesyou could argue that all Mario rpgs are basically that
Besides execution but they’ve legit burnt all of the bridges for world building and stuff, so after dream team, and besides paper jam, the originality sucked Becuase they could do WAY much more in terms of story, at least with paper jam it answered where all of the characters were in the paper Mario series
To put into perspective
I don’t think all of them are good I like the combat, I like the music, and I like the aesthetic, unfortunately all of those rpgs aren’t really great in story so I respectfully disagree your comment
@@Faz10do987 You absolutely cannot argue TTYD is like that. To suggest this is laughable.
Yeah I really don't get the hate Ethier, I feel like it gave pretty much everything the fans wanted.
@@xProErax Wouldn't be surprise if that was the main reason.
@@xProErax Honestly that threw me off a little but it wasn't enough to make me mad or rate the game lower imo.

It holds up pretty well for being a totally different developer too!)
It's not for everyone!
This is the first time in history where Nintendo got overSHADOWed by SEGA since like what? The early 1990s?
Always come to your own conclusions. Don't let anyone take away enjoyment of something from you. I 100% completed all of Brothership together with my twin brother in co-op and we had a blast all the way through! I'm aware that this game is somewhat decisive but for us personally it was phenomenal! I'd even go as far to say it's my game of year, absolutely loved this game!

As a FlingSmash fan, you really should play it! It's a fun time!
IT's my first Mario & Luigi,
And for real i can see the people saying how it's kind of bland, but at the same time.
"i played this game wrong so it felt too slow"
You're not supposed to grind in Mario RPGs. Kill every enemy you come across when sidequesting or during the main story and you're pretty much set for most of the game.

@@giganticmoon Hey what the fuck I said an actual bad game don’t diss one of my favorites lmao… You coulda said dark souls 2!
Definitely seems like it. Obsessive hype often leads to disappointment, even if the product is still very good.
Those who say brothership is “disappointing” probably find the game disappointing.
Pretty sure folks are just mindlessly slurping off of IGN's opinion, simply because a guy who isn't into RPGs or whatever played this one.
That’s not true. The same reviewer gave paper Mario the thousand year door a 9/10. That’s an RPG.
@dannysmi7162 well damn, then I got nothing. Guess he took most of the problems it shared with other M&L games too much to heart? I dunno if he never played the prior games in the series, or if he did and simply forgot about how equally present those issues were. I honestly have no clue.
But then why this game specifically while they trash every single other ign opinion
@@JTtheOctoling Well some of their complaints made sense like performance issues.
It sucks because, most likely, the people hating on the game were the ones begging Nintendo to revive the mario and luigi series
IGN isn't a review that is constructive, it's a review that pisses me off & they really hit a new low this time!
I love my time with this game so far. Is it my favorite in the series? Not really, but it is up there with BIS and SSS as my favorites
I haven't played BIS, nor Partners in Time.

1-Dream Team
(Full honestly, I'm BIAS as heck for this game. This is just my favorite.)
2-Brothership
(Cinematic, great combat gameplay, loved the exploration even with having to backtrack a lot, loved the music, funny, this game truly made me laugh and feel joyful many times, great story, corny yes, but good).
3-Super Star Saga
(Charming, challenging, and fun. The only downsides for me are that the story felt a bit unfocused imo, and the game is just frustrating at times, coff, coff, Peach's escort section).
4-Paper Jam
(It's four, because I've played four of the M&L games, but this game was so boring I'd put it in at the bottom of any game list I can think of)
I put it right above partners in time which I have only above paperjam.
It shares a lot of issues I had with PIT. Including poor level design, but I had more fun with combat in brothership, so even though I liked the story a bit more in pit, I give it to brothership
I think TTYD and Brothership are both excellent lovely RPGs.
You have to have next to no media literacy and/or critical thinking skills to think those two games are remotely close in quality.
@spriles TTYD and Brothership have this in common : they both take full responsability for the aesthetics they ve choosen. The world of Brothership looks a bit static to the eye yet at the same time its textures and landscapes are still pleasants to see.

I say *both* Sonic x Shadow Generations and Mario + Luigi Brothership are 2 different things that are good for those that enjoy it.
I hate how that one IGN reviewer acted like they were a huge fan of the series but acted like the game wasn't at least competing with superstar saga.
I get the review on an individual game scale but as a M&L game it's exactly what I wanted
It's weird to see how they critiqued it on its strengths and praised it for its weaknesses (the battle system is weak and needs more changes imo)
To expand on the battle system critique
It's been 5 games man, the same thing is not cutting it for me although I don't mind that much.
BiS had a giants gimmick and Dream team ran with it and it didn't work, obviously it needs more of a rework than anything
But I see why they kept it this way, its a new intro to new players
My biggest gripe was the ship map being in the way when you'd return to an island to explore
You unlock so many fast travel options.

If there's one real gripe I have with this game, it's that it should have ended sooner. The plot twist was cool and all, but having to collect bonds just to yet again go back to the fortress (now turned soli-tree) felt like a slog. Not the worst padding ever, but it didn't feel that satisfying to me afterwards.

This game is amazing. 50 hours of Mario and Luigi goodness.
Ignore the hate and play for yourself
I can see the same with Mario & Luigi Brothership but IGN isn't helping because they posted the same score 10 times on Twitter

The game doesn't really have anything to catch my interest and instead it has more things that drives me away from it, and I'd rather play other games.
dude trust me frame rate and performance are not bad im up to the fourth great lighthouse it runs well
core battle gimmick i guess is that its more flashy with more button prompts idk?
gimmicks suck anyway imo i rather have it be a normal battle system
Why wouldn't this game cost $60??? And from what I've seen, the framerate isn't even that bad.
And yeah ........ There are gimmicks in boss fights.

You can't comment on something that you never played this game
@@carloslabrador1432 The framerate is well known and can be observed & noted without playing the game. The price is visible & relevant to consider before one can even play the game. The above average length of the game compared to most other entries in the series is well documented at this point and can be noted without playing the game. The game's battle system having only Mario and Luigi and no additional members or alternative is something that can be observed and noted without having played the game.
These are just facts, not based on subjective taste or experience.
I regret spending $60 on this game 😞
why?
@ cause I haven’t had any fun with it
Kind of over nintendo's insert an obnoxious mascot into mario game trope when mario himself is the mascot. It's corny and no one is trying to hang out with a piggybank butterfly thing, a hat with eyes or a talking water pump. Stop it, nintendo.
maybe try playing this game and find out its incredibly charming and not bland
@@deadvikingtrolls pretty sure most people like companions in most Mario games. Especially Cappy and Fludd.
@tjlnintendo While simultaneously complaining that they want a new mario 64 or mario galaxy. I know. People as a monolith make no sense.
@@deadvikingtrolls
Not really a counter point since I didn’t treat people as a monolith or did I say anything about Galaxy and 64.
Also Galaxy had the white luma joining you. Galaxy 2 had the fat purple one as well.
@tjlnintendo I see what you're saying even if you don't fully see what I am saying. Forgot about the little star things in galaxy though, screw those too.
i think we should start realising that ign is full of BS whenever they make a review, good or bad
they're just not that trustworthy anymore
the ending of this game is so amazing I don't get how anyone leaves the game with a dissatisfied face
I feel like people are so desperate to not give IGN the reason when it comes to this game. Funny how y'all keep making excuses for this game solely because "But muh nostalgia over a 21 year old GBA Game tho!!!" And its hilarious.
It’s a great game. Your average player these days is completely lost and clueless.
Actually your average Nintendo fanboy has no media literacy. Brothership is not a great game at all.

That's the internet for you. Try to experience a game without the internet affecting your experience. Form your own conclusions and think for YOURSELF if you enjoy the game or not. You don't HAVE to love adore Mario 64, and you don't have to be super disappointed by Brothership. You decide yourself ;)
