Michael Owens goal is how I tried and failed to base the attacking side of my game on as a kid. The way he dropped his shoulders and beat the defenders with ease before putting the ball in the net was perfect technique

I was actually watching Brazil the other night who are favourites for the world cup and I was thinking the standard of football is obviously poorer for them to be favs , you compare that forward line to this Brazil forward line and there really is no comparison

Rooney seems to be somewhat underrated by a lot of people. Such a well rounded player and amongst the best of his generation (excluding the obvious two)
younger rooney was an absolute monster.
Think he probably was an equal to them on raw ability when they broke through but Ronaldos fitness and self care propelled him out ahead and messi made himself the player that anyone on the pitch with him had to position themselves around and Rooney seemed to do the opposite and he moved positions according to who came in or who was injured and he didn’t ever nail down where he was going to play and instead of being one of the worlds greatest strikers/centre mids/no10s ever!! He became someone who was pretty much world class in 6-9 different positions but actually not the best of his era in any.
That FIFA 23 advert is absolutely shambolic.

I think I only started to appreciate how good Joe Cole was after he retired, if he was in his prime today I think it would’ve suited him perfectly

The Brazil question was baffling though....."have you seen their line up?" Yes. It's why they weren't going to win it.
A bunch of over-rated top players, mixed with players who aren't close to the Brazil of old (real world class players, which every teams need) and players who are lacking experience. Their rigidity probably suited the squad but they lacked the special talent which would win them games they might have struggled in....and so it was!

This may be an unpopular opinion: I think England was better under Eriksson than under Capello.
Crouch is actually a funny guy
Most people have Brazil as strong favourites but i think they are looking too much at the forward line. I mean yes they have 7-8 high quality forwards but the fact is only 3 will play. The keeper dept is world class with alisson and ederson. They have a good midfield but it is not spectacular. Their CBs looks great on paper but Thiago silva is what 38. He is a legend yes but he isn't at his peak. The fullbacks Alex Sandro, Telles, Maybe militao will play as a fullback. They are alright but you wouldn't categorize them as world class by any stretch.
So overall world class forwards and a world class GK. I don't think they are world class in fullback or midfield departments.
Now I am not saying they shouldn't be the favorites. On paper maybe I would also out them as just favourites but not strong favourites. There are areas you could exploit in that team.
Btw top quality from Cole and Crouch. Brilliant to watch
Why England never used the midfield of Gerrard+Hargreaves+Lampard? Or Gerrard+Carrick+Lampard? And never with just Gerrard and Lampard.
England played mainly 4 4 2 back then. So they played Beckham right side,Gerrard and Lampard in the middle and Scoles left side.
Tbf lads, that's kinda the problem with the mentality why England as a squad don't win anything, because we're not focused on what we r gunna do, and we're so worried what the opponent will do!
