  • In this series, I build a Kyosho Inferno MP10e 1/8 Scale 4wd RC buggy for off road racing. Like most of my build videos, you will see the entire build in great detail. This offroad RC car is designed for the RC enthusiast who wants to compete in large scale rc off road racing. There are many improvements over the inferno MP9.

    Hello again, MY RC Channel. I have a couple additional inquiries.
    1.) I haven't been able to see your high-end track footage following the build. Would you mind linking that under my comment, please?
    2.) I've looked for a tutorial on building the MP10Te truggy and am curious to know if you've produced one.
    As always, thank you for keeping up with your followers. It's really awesome when "famous public figures" continue to answer questions and help people in the RC world. I watched this religiously while building my Kyosho buggy, which was beyond helpful. It's such a radical idea to give tutorials in the YT format. Thank you thank you!
    All the best,

      Hi Johney, I haven't had the time to run the MP10e... not even a test run. Last year I didn't do any RC at all. The last two years, were crazy with a lot of family issues, financial issues, my own health, etc. and I needed a break from TH-cam... it becomes an addiction that can push you harder than any job. I always felt like I had to do more, build more, make more videos...
      Sometime this year, I'm going to get the MP10e to the track because I really like the 1/8 scale. I race a 1/8 Serpent road car and really enjoyed the feel of a bigger heavier car, as compared to 1/10s. Sorry, but I don't know if I'll get to the MP10Te truggy. I'll keep it in mind.
      Thanks you for the complements... I particularly enjoyed the tongue in cheek "famous public figures" comment! It's good to hear that my viewers like the style of videos I make.
      Regards,
      CJ

      @@Johney_Nomadic888 Arizona has a lot to offer. Lots of outdoor activities from mountain biking to rock climbing. I drove across AZ once years ago and it’s beautiful country. You know, there’s a little town that is dedicated to stargazing. It’s in the middle of nowhere and at dark, everyone turns out the lights to eliminate light pollution. My wife has wanted to go there for years.
      Did you lose anyone to Covid? My dad passed in Nov, 2021… not from the virus, he just didn’t wake up. He was 95. My mom needed a lot of help for a while. Fortunately I live close by.

    I feel the same way as you about pillow ball
    Suspension so I just bought the X-ray xb8e 2019 kit. That year xb8 comes with both sets of parts on the box so that may be an option for you a though that car does use a 4s pack
    My other e buggy is the team c t8e which uses saddle packs and handles amazingly well.

      I did some searching and I can't find them. If I were you, I'd build it stock and save your extra money for springs, shock fluid, and tires. Get swaybar sets for front and rear, a verity/range of springs and focus your time on testing and tuning. For the springs, start with one weight above and one below for front and rear. Don't try making any changes until you can drive the car for at least 5-10 laps at a time without crashing or in anyway losing it. Then you can start trying different tuning options. Getting a set of digital tuning scales is a very good investment. Corner balancing if super important because if the car has most of it's weight on two tires (diagonally) it's never going to handle consistently and any changes you make will not make a consistently good handling buggy.
      I've got the older version of these... good product. www.amainhobbies.com/skyrc-scws2000-bluetooth-corner-weight-scale-system-w-4-scales-sky-500036-1/p1295183

      Wow, that's a big ask, particularly since it's been over 3 years since I built this buggy. Most kits require a 1.5mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm hex wrenches which can be bought in sets. A lot of what you'll need can be gotten in a day or two from Amazon, or by going to your local hobby store. Also, I buy a lot of my kits and gear from AMain Hobbies www.amainhobbies.com/
      You can buy 1/8 wheels and tires pre-glued. That will save you time and money. You'll need polycarbonate safe paint, also known as PS safe paint, to paint the body. If this is your first time painting a clear body, go with one or two colors max. Also choose a bright color like white, yellow, orange, red in florescent to make it easy to spot your car in a crowd. You'll need shock oil and differential fluid. The stock build sheet will give you recommendations. This will be a general build. You'll need different fluid weights for different track surfaces like clay vs dirt, and short twisty tracks vs long tracks with wider/faster corners. Eventually, you'll need different springs and swaybars as you learn to tune your buggy.
      You sound like you are new to the hobby... My recommendation is to follow the stock build for now. Get to the track and learn to drive the buggy. Focus on control over speed. Learn to use the brakes as well as the throttle. When you can turn 10 or more laps without crashing, then start working on speed and tuning the suspension. If you can't drive consistently, you can't tell if the changes you are making are doing any good. You'll need to learn a lot of terminology and how all these things affect how a car handles. At the bottom of this comment, I'm putting some recourses on suspension tuning. You've got a long road ahead, but if you're patient and take the time to learn, you'll be rewarded with years of fun!

    Hi, I'm getting ready to pick one of these up after watching your videos. Now that you have had it a while, what spares and options would you recommend?

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There aren't a lot of option parts that I'm aware of and none are really needed. I'd get some front end parts as spares... the usual suspects for crash damage: a-arms, steering knuckles and c-hubs, maybe a spare front axle. They the wearable parts like diff rebuild parts: gaskets, o-rings, shims. And the std. tuning parts: a grade thicker and thinner sway bar and the same for front and rear springs. Make sure you've got a variety of shock fluids and diff fluids. And last, but certainly not least, tires!!! See what other people are running at your track... also, ask the manager of the track for tire recommendations for 1/8th class. Compound is as important as the tread pattern.

    I would very much like to get back into the hobby. It was a long time ago and I have no new experience. How stable is the MP 10 e? How difficult is it to control compared to other buggies and how is it wear and tear? I would be very happy about an exchange. Many thanks.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just in the build process on this kit and haven't driven it yet. If you're just getting back into the hobby or are new to the hobby, I recommend some thought and research. First, decide if you want to race. If you do, do some research on what venues there are in your area. Check with local hobby stores. You don't want to buy a 1/8 buggy if there aren't any off road rc tracks near you. Also, some tracks don't let beginner drivers race 1/8 till they have some experience in the smaller cars. The 1/8 cars are big and can injure someone badly. Ask which classes are most popular... you want to compete in a class that has enough regular participants to make it fun... and you'll have people to learn from. These things should guide your choice of vehicles.
      On the other hand, if you don't want to race, I'd start with a RTR that is more of a "basher" than a race car. The MP10e id a dedicated race car and it's expensive... if you don't want to compete, buy something you can have fun with right away without the expense of time and money of a race focused machine.
      When you decide which direction you want to go, if you have other questions, please ask.

      Thank you very much, I have answered this question. I want to race, have a track nearby and can drive there. Sworkz and Kyosho are driven. Unfortunately no contacts are possible at the moment and I am informing me intensely. i m hanging between Sworkz s35-4e and Kyosho MP10e. Can someone help me make a decision? Does somebody know both? Would be very happy.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkusKloes I checked out the SWorks... it's a nice enough car and either should suit you well. BUT, I prefer the type of front suspension that uses kingpins as opposed to those big ball sockets. Also, the MP10e uses two 2 cell batteries on either side of the chassis, this keeps the weight down low and makes balancing left to right more even. Both are reasons why I chose the Kyosho over all the other manufacturers. I really like 1/8 scale because the cars just feel solid... they are not as twitchy as the smaller scale cars because they have a lot of mass. For the same reasons I like 4wd SCTs. That's just my two cents. Best of luck!

    This is a bit of topic hope you don’t mind I have a kyosho mad force 2.0 with a Lrp engine in it for repair and setup what suspension oil would you recommend for light jumping and dirt driving I was thinking about going with 60wt oil but would like your input if you don’t mind

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, bare in mind that I'm just guessing, having never worked on or owned one of these. It looks pretty heavy and it's 1/8 scale so a large truck. The suspension is also controlling some big tires. Now springs are more important for jumping as they hold up the vehicle and the oil dampens the movement of the suspension, and prevents bouncing... or tries to limit it. Not knowing the spring rates you're using but with all the other factors, size, scale, tire size, I'd say 35-37.5... 60 sounds a bit high, but I've never seen this truck in the flesh. You're going to have to experiment and do a few rebuilds to see what works best. You might try building up a couple shocks with different weights and manipulate them by hand to see how they feel. Remember, spring rate is a factor, so if you're bottoming on landings, you should first try adjusting preload and then move up in spring rate... as you do that, you'll also need to go up in fluid viscosity to compensate. I looked online and couldn't find any info on Kyosho's site, looked through the manual and there was zero info on shocks, spring rates, etc. Sorry, I'm forgetting that you're doing this for a customer... so you won't be able to experiment to much. Have you tried any forums? I was hoping the manual would have info on what they put in the stock build but this is a readyset so they don't provide that info.
      Do you know this is a discontinued truck? You might recommend to the owner that they don't bash this to hard because spare parts are limited and will eventually/soon be gone.
      I hope this helps.

      @@JohnSmith-mr6il Hi, I'm glad you're having such a good time. Nitro is a pain... my opinion. You might consider building a 4wd short course truck... I'm about to build a Tekno SCT410.3. The Tekno is bulletproof and has the same size shocks as the Inferno (16mm)... so you can buy different weight springs and swap them between the kits for tuning. The SCTs are big and fun to drive. Their weight puts them in the 1/8 range even though they are 1/10th scale officially. BTW, I'm sitting down this evening to work on the Inferno MP10e... was getting ready for racing, but rain is 100% for the morning so my club is postponing our last race of the season for one more week... we can't get rained out 3 weeks in a row?!?!
