being a scratch dj in the late 90's I never understood why turntablism didn't blow up. you got so called "dj's" literally standing on a stage getting paid 6 figures per gig pretending to do something, while a turntablist spends hours per routine to make it look and sound amazing. here's a salute to the real dj's; isp, beat junkies, allies, xmen, and any other crew i missed.
The reason these guys get paid 6 figures per gig, is because people pay good money to go see them because they like their music and want to listen to it in these big production concerts. You can't compare turntabalism and this, it's two completely different things. You can argue there isn't much DJ'ing going on, other than regular beat matching. But what is "DJ'ing" and when can you call yourself one? I'm freelance and resident at one or two clubs and I consider myself a DJ eventhough I am no turntabalist Don't get me wrong, I really do admire DJ's who perfect or even perform the art of turntabalism.

saw craze back in 99 at Sparty's in E Lansing. Dude had to stand on the turntable case lids because the decks were too high! Played a full hip hop/scratch hour long set, followed by an hour of DnB. It was epic, he shut the place down! Cops literally came in and turned the lights on to stop the party because we exceeded the 2am shut down. LEGEND

MrSTAYUP33 is correct. I've seen Craze live. He mixes songs into each other in addition to scratching. These types of routines are just a condensed power-packed show of his skills. During a live set these skills are spread out over time during the mixing of regular tracks. When I saw him it was at Ultra Music Festival... I think 2003 or so? He was on the DnB stage spinning/scratching DnB - was fantastic. Added a lot of great flare to the already intense energy that DnB brought.

That would be a real PRODUCER, not a dj. Craze, Qbert and the like are all about demonstrating technical skill and making it sound sick, but there are also cats like Jazzy Jeff and Cut Chemist who are totally danceable. You have to understand, up until digital became the huge thing it is, you had producers who stuck to the studio, and DJs who were responsible for showcasing their stuff with a little finesse and performance ability. These days, the producers are hopping on the decks for the rock stardom, but aren't taking the time to learn the finesse/performance aspects of djing.

I think that his sense of humor is totally humble and that's why its hella funny cuz you can imagine the time it takes to build that kind of confidence and I think you can see what someone has gone through to get to that point. Imagine all the crazy parties this guy been too! imagine how passionate someone has to be to continue to be the best despite all the distractions. I bet dude spent a lot of Saturday nights not giving a fuck what anyone was doing on his turntables! Carrying equipment, I dunno, I think this guys skills have to be proportionate to the hella work.

MrSTAYUP33 is correct. I've seen Craze live. He mixes songs into each other in addition to scratching. These types of routines are just a condensed power-packed show of his skills. During a live set these skills are spread out over time during the mixing of regular tracks. When I saw him it was at Ultra Music Festival... I think 2003 or so? He was on the DnB stage spinning/scratching DnB - was fantastic. Added a lot of great flare to the already intense energy that DnB brought.
If you are like me you just leave after a few minutes. Ive done that quite a few times when he plays here.

DadaLife are good at PRODUCING music tho. You got 2 kind of EDM artists: the ones that started DJ'ing first, and the ones that started producing first. You can guess which ones are the worst DJ's ;)

a DJ may not be a hard thing to do, but in my eyes, a real DJ is someone that can produce good music, without ghost producers and shit like that.

He didn't make this for you to dance to it obviously. This guy can rock parties and festivals also like your regular edm push button DJs. He's been doing edm festivals for years. Except when he does it, it's live on the spot and danceable like you want. He's also produced songs. I think you're missing the whole point.

That would be a real PRODUCER, not a dj. Craze, Qbert and the like are all about demonstrating technical skill and making it sound sick, but there are also cats like Jazzy Jeff and Cut Chemist who are totally danceable. You have to understand, up until digital became the huge thing it is, you had producers who stuck to the studio, and DJs who were responsible for showcasing their stuff with a little finesse and performance ability. These days, the producers are hopping on the decks for the rock stardom, but aren't taking the time to learn the finesse/performance aspects of djing.
