Dave Watson Hi Dave and thanks They do take up a fair chunk of time but thats mostly when im flying them regularly, flying separate kits can take 2 hours a day to get them all out and back in sometime longer so I now fly one kit a day when weather allows and have all the boxes cleaned and birds fed by the time they are back down. Loz, your videos made me fall in love with the Birmingham roller. As I told you as a kid, bred pigeons for the exhibitions. The first coming up in my mind was about the Birmingham roller, it is a ugly bird. Now its is for me the most beautiful pigeon in the world. Very good videos Loz for the extension of this wonderful birds. About the falcons, I sent you information about the whistles putting in the tails. Falcon gets crazy of the sound and doesn't attack. Once the falcon eats one of your birds will get back every time when he gets hungry. This guy of the whistles is stopping and is selling over left stock at good prices. Cheers,
I really enjoyed your video. I am amazed they listen to orders to come in. I had no clue. They fly freely in my state. Not as many where I am here. mainly in or near big city's. I am in a small town near farm land now. We do have plenty of doves here.
My grandson and I are just starting out with 10 of these beauties haven’t went and picked up the birds yet getting ready build their box - do you mind sharing how big it should be for 10 - and I read about a whistle on their tales to steer falcons away - my thoughts are it may bother them if it bothers a falcon . Would appreciate any great guidance . We’re just learning about these beauties . Your Vedio’s are wonderful! thanks for sharing

Fell in love with the Birmingham rollers. As a kid we had a lot off space at my home, so my father and I, we prepared good pigeon homes. I was born and raised in Holland but nowadays I live in Spain close to the Gibraltar area. Always lived in an apartment but since 5 years in a house with a small garden. Your boxes design are really great for the available space at my home. So I have been collecting for some weeks materials to prepare one. My idea is to start breathing around January 2016. I am in contact with the roller club in Holland. One of my questions to you is if you know somebody in Spain or in Gibraltar with Birmingham rollers?? In the further the idea is to bring from Holland or from Europe birds but it is not to easy. Till now I found out that it is not aloud to bring them by the plane. Another question in which I need a quick respond is about the diameter of the pipe with angel for the trap. And what material? PVC?? I really hope that we are soon in contact. +john coelho many things effect the flying height mainly the wind, high and low pressure, they fly mostly between 50 and 100 feet and need regular flying to see the rolling at its best.
Did separating the males and females stop the females having eggs? My birds keep having eggs and trying to nest! When I separated the males out.. the females just paired up together and keep laying eggs!!!!
Yes Jason the same thing happened here but believe me if the cocks and hens are together they are all non stop laying and fighting, not all my hens were laying mainly just the older hens they have stopped now.

Hi i finally got my kit box ready and i was wondering if i should start off with a breeding pair of pigeons and is 2x2 timber good for a frame for a 7 foot kit box/loft and osb board on the outside as i might make a big kit box sas the one i have just bought cost me over 3 hundred and fifty pound
Owaisss Hus Hi there, yes that frame should be easily strong enough, remember the OSB has alot of rigid strength so a good fixing to the 2x2 will be enough. Cheers.

I race Homers (I been doing it for a few years) but I got bored with it and now I'm going to try rollers but I don't know a thing about it and want someone to teach me. Can you please help? Thanks.
pigeonsontraining Hi there, Main differences are rollers dont have a good homing instinct so you have to be patient when you first get them, they only fly around the loft and maybe up to a mile or so away if you took them say 5 miles up the road and tossed them out you may not see them again. Other than that not much difference, they roll obviously, and fly for around 30-45 mins a day usually. Hawks love them because they fly slower than homers and they are smaller than homers in size. I ideally with homers you are feeding them good food plenty of protein to get them fit and fast, with rollers you feed them wheat all the time with a few mixed peas and grains one a week. you ration the food when they are flying so they are not bursting with energy all the time, this means they fly around the loft more and kind of flutter around rather than the speed flying homers do. The fluttering slower flight improves the rolling also keeps the kit together. If they are fed like homers on a rich diet they will probably get lazy and go sit around on roofs all day, and you wont see much rolling at all. Hope that helps.
Thanks friend it's a great information, what about housing, how much space they need and can I breed them with Homers? Why's that? Because I like the rollers variety of colors. I have about 200 Homers, a few of them are colored but I want more colors and the only way I could do that is getting colors from other breed of pigeons. What do you think? .thanks.

Thanks...the whistle idea is no good against hawks so dont bother, 10 birds will be comfortable in boxes like mine 6ft wide and 3ft x 3ft cheers

Hi Dave its an old sony HDR SR10. have since got a Sony PXW X70 which is much better but more complicated to operate if you want the best out of it.
