Here's the logical flaw in your comment: Are those coal miners trained to stay 8 months underground continuously? Is 8 months a standard time of miners to be underground continuously? The Astronauts are trained for 8 months of space and 8 months is also a standard time.

They can't, because national pride takes precedence over the lives of their astronauts. Besides are the docking rings the same size as on the Chinese space craft . If not they would have to specially build an adaptor for them to dock on the iss . Remember senator Frank Wolf passed a law prohibiting any cooperation with the Chinese space agency.

The only reason America wants to go back to the moon is because they fear china is going to beat them to it. The Chinese space agency have already said that preparations are on track for a moon landing by 2030, so NASA is in a panic knowing the competition is well down the track to make it happen.
