i have an old alienware alpha i5 can i upgrade only the ram? to 16gb? Or should i upgrade also the cpu or gpu if i want to upgrade the ram.thanks in advance..
I tried to remove the fan on the gpu but it was stuck only the right was detached then I asked my dad and he did it. IN ONE TRY. (I have Alienware Alpha R1)

I hear with R1 you can change cpu but can't on R2, is this true? 6. R1 has extra ram slot does this matter? Any advice?
Wish i had seen this earlier now I have an R2 motherboard with some parts I cannot use from the R1 like the GPU heatsink the power button and the corner light is also different. Hate Dell for doing this.

That's a tough one. Consoles are different than even a small computer. Performance why, much better. Massive gaming library of course from Steam, Origin and UPlay. Better game prices. So based on that, yup :)
you also forgot to mention that the R2 can be connected to a Graphic Amplifer which significantly makes the R2 much better
the alpha r2 has a graphic amplifier post at the back for a alienware graphics amplifier
You forgot to mention that under r2 CPU fan there is also a M2 SSD slot

+Since Fortin if you by the Alienware Graphic Amplifier then yes.
you can use an i5-4690s instead, almost any 4th gen s form factor chips will work lol, its not a specially manufactured chipset just for the alpha.
Andrew Monias You can use any Haswell or Broadwell cpu. But some work better than others due to the Alpha’s power limitations.

I've never tried the i5 version of the R2, but I can say that with the first Alpha I never maxed the CPU which was a i5.
I don't see much of a difference. I haven't maxed out i7 yet.
